I can't see why you would pick the e-system over the x-system. It's brilliance is it's sheer simplicity!?!

How is cleaning the chain? How frequently does it need to be cleaned and what about underneath the front sprocket cover (if the bike has one?)

The cool thing with a Scottoiler is that the oil isn't gummy and sticky like conventional chain lube, so it's not a huge mess to clean. There's a little bit of fling on wheels and chassis, similar to normal chain lube, but again, it's cleans easily, so it's not even a deal.

The feeder tube has been incorrectly installed in your video. From Scottoiler's FAQ on their website on oil fling. Quote: 'Oil fling also increases when the dispensing tube is not set up correctly. This tube should always be lightly touching the face of the sprocket in order to dispense a light oil film onto the sprocket, which will then get pushed into the inside of the rollers using centrifugal force. If the tube is set up incorrectly and is trying to drip oil directly onto the chain, then this drop is likely to be caught by wind and flung away from the bike.'

You can see on the first of the studio shots that the tube is just kissing the sprocket. It appears the tube got pulled slightly out of position prior to the action shots. But you're right; the correct position is to have the tube feeding a small slice of the sprocket above the chain. For what it's worth, this CRF Rally has had a bunch of miles put on it since the filming and doesn't show any evidence of lubricant fling.

I like the idea and it's 'nice' to have on/off but it's pretty much the same as the Tutoro option which is mechanical/vibration based but costs less than half of the X-System. I just can't see the value in this over the competition. Interested to see what the response is...

Hi James. We do not have any direct experience with the Tutoro oiler, as we only sell the Scottoiler systems for now.

The Tutoro has one drawback; it needs to be vertically mounted for the motion detector to work. The Scottoiler X system doesn have that limitation. On my bike there's no way I can mount the reservoir vertically. So, sadly, I can't go for the Tutoro. I'm still in doubt if I should by the X system because I read lots of complaints about leakage of the container. I do hope that's resolved in V2 but I'm not sure. Otherwise I do like the simplicity of the X system.

You installed the set incorrectly. The oil feeding needle should feed it on the sprocket and not directly on the chain... The oil should run down the sprocket and not drip from the top on the chain links.

That was my though as soon as I saw the delivery tube in the video. I've used scottoiler products for years and always have the delivery tube feed the sprocket just about the chain (as per Scottoiler recommendations) not drip directly onto the chain.

It's a fine line. I had the feeder/drip line touching the rear sprocket and it wore away the tip of the line. I think the end of the feeder line should be above the chain by the side of the sprocket. But not touching either as the line is force fed and the bikes motion activated.

My system had only done 8000 miles, proof of MOT history. E-system costs £270. It's sold to extend the life of chain. Sent back to scottoiler and there email reply clearly confirms the unit I had "the controller part has developed an system fault and cannot be repaired, as they are sealed". They say it out of warranty. I've already paid £270 for the system to look after my chain. Let's also be clear, I'm not asking for a refund. I just want to keep a functioning scottoiler that lasts longer than the original chain. Also due to covid, the last 3 years have hardly been ridden at all. Scottoiler product is not fit for purpose. Scottoiler customer service is even worse
