I have asked a lot of my mechanic buddies about my wife's 06 Pontiac Montana, it will not start unless I give it the gas, it just keeps turning over. do you have any ideas or tips that can lead me in the right direction of fixing this?

Just a heads up to anyone considering this... You will want to buy an in-line fuse to go with this. They are $5-10 and will save a huge headache if a wire goes. I have this heater and the instructions say to do this as well.

I wonder how many people are going to miss the entire point of this video(saving a buttload of money in exchange for something less aesthetically pleasing and a little less effective) and hate on Scotty for no reason. If i bought a used beater car and the heater went out, i would use this if the fix was too costly! Thanks scotty!

Because hey, it's smart to spend 1500 bucks to fix heating on a 200 dollar POS winterbeater. Don't matter if the engine has 500 thousand miles on it and it's just in the verge of shitting itself. AT LEAST THE HEATER IS FIXED. SMH.

I agree with Scotty. I have a Dodge Ram with a faulty heater core and had to resort to using a 12V solution to get through the winter. I read all the awful reviews and videos on the 12V blower fans. Decided to go with a 12V heated car seat. It actually works pretty well and if you aren't in an area with cruel winters I'd suggest you give one of those a go. They're not even that expensive.

TheCuriousCrusaders then you definitely should first try to use radiator flush and after that, radiator sealant. The flush cleans all the surfaces inside the cooling system, including the heater core and the sealant works better after that, as the surfaces are clean for it to stick in.

KillEmAllWithMetal No, the old ones did that, modern liquid ones only turn solid when they get hot AND contact with air. So only already leaking water pump, which is shot can have problems with modern sealants. But modern sealants wont fix holes larger than 1x1millimeter either.

@billgateskilledmyuncle23
@billgateskilledmyuncle23 6 жыл бұрын
pklongutoobe that may depend on how much current it draws to begin with. It may not pull any more juice than the rear defrosters on cars which are just giant heater elements. My biggest worry would be catching the car on fire. It would just about have to be mounted in the passenger floorboard.
@pklongutoobe
@pklongutoobe 6 жыл бұрын
The rear window defroster has a pretty low output, just enough to warm the glass (100W or thereabouts) and isn't designed to be run constantly. Fire would definitely be a risk with that heater.

Back in the late 1970s, used cars had no heated rear windows (in the UK). The solution was to fit a stick-on screen heater, fed from the battery via a switch on the dashboard. On a cold and damp day they were so easy to leave switched on that a flat battery was guaranteed sooner or later. Then and now, it is always best to power an accessory via a relay that powers off with the ignition. I expect you will have a video on that subject.

Funny question here Scott. I replaced and upper control arm on my 98 chevy s10. My shop has a grease pump machine that has a trigger that doesn't work so when you plug in the air hose it just starts squirting. So I went to fill the bushing with grease, filled it too much and a tiny hole was made on the side of the bushing squirting out grease. My question is, do you think flex seal could seal a tiny hole on a bushing?

Hello Scotty, I have a 2008 Honda Accord Coupe V6 EX-L that has a dual automatic climate control. I have a problem where when I use the heater or air conditioning that the driver side is always warmer then the passenger side and thee passenger side is cold up until I set it to 25 degrees celcius, I"m using single climate mode. The only time this is not a problem is when it is set to either the coldest or hottest setting, anything in between gives a problem. I'm assuming that my coolant and thermostat is good because my maintenance minder in the car hasn't displayed any codes and I changed the cabin air filter recently. I also did the HVAC self-test and didn't see anything. Is my maintenance minder not telling me the whole story or is there something else that's wrong? Also my car recently went over 200 000 KM and I haven't done a coolant flush yet, should I do this right away or wait for the maintenance minder to say so?

Knowing about the reliability and the bulky nature of these heaters my brother and i replaced the the heater core on a 1990 Toyota Corolla SR5, Yea it was a pain in the ass and took a while but it works properly. and we even changed out the blower motor resistor so the fan works properly while we had the dash out of the car. There is just no room for a big box of a heater in that little car. You are right about getting a Toyota though Scotty. His Car has 394000 miles on the original engine and still runs fine,

Scotty, I have a rather interesting problem. I tried changing a tire today because of some alignment issues amongst other things on my truck. the problem happened in trying to get the almost slick tire off. I took off the schrader valve, tried loosening the bead, and it refused to budge. tried several things to liberate it, even tried (a rather stupid method) of using a jack against a tractor trailer on the tire, the bead would not budge at all. What would cause a bead to be set that bad?

Hey Scotty, I've always heard you wanted to bolt the negative feed of an electronic component to chassis ground, not the battery. Can you give me your opinion on which one is better or when to use chassis ground over grounding to the negative terminal? Thanks!
@yqwgjsg
@yqwgjsg 6 жыл бұрын
matt b I see no advantage to bolting the negative to the chassis since all you get is likely more resistance in the circuit. The tip about using the chassis as the negative does apply to jumpstarting since you could get a spark when hooking up and if the battery is off gassing, blowing your ass off.

Nothing much. You could, but you'd have to find a way to recharge the battery.
@jeffnorbert1871
@jeffnorbert1871 Жыл бұрын
Yes, potentially dangerous if you use an ordinary flooded lead acid battery. Two reasons; the battery releases hydrogen gas at times and the bigger risk is it spilling acid in the event of a crash. It would be better to use an AGM battery that won't spill or release any significant gas or a Lithium battery. A heater like this will run down a typical battery pretty quick. Intended to be used when the vehicle is running using primarily power supplied by the alternator. Even then there is a chance it could discharge the car battery if a lot of other accessories are running at the same time.

The heater still works in my old Mustang and doesnt leak, but it takes forever to kick in. Oh well. Its a cable operated system just like on that Celica. But come summer time I have the opposite problem, no working AC at all. So I thought I could get around that with a plug in fan and most of the time I find it just blows hot air. So I decided to get a proper AC kit and luckily it looks like I can do that without having to also change the heater unit.

crewboy23 A 65. And mine blows cold until the engine warms up to its operating temperature. It just seems to work inconsistently tho. Sometimes it practically burns me other times it doesnt seem to do much at all. When its 40 degrees outside and the cars been sitting for a few hours then it takes a good 15 minutes or so to start blowing very warm. Maybe I just need to change thermostats.

I messed up my temperature control knob when installing a new radio. It had a wire behind the knob that loosened or tightened which in turn flips a lever up or down. Once I figured that out I just flipped the lever up or down to open/close the heater core. I almost went the entire NY winter before fixing it!

I actually thought of doing the same thing for the AC system...get a small wall unit, take out one of the windows, mount the wall unit in door frame, and bingo....better AC for $100

Actually... there's a van driving around town that has a window unit installed. The person removed the rear passenger window, and mounted a window unit on brackets drilled into the van. It looks pretty sketchy, but if it works... it works.

Keep in mind a midsize car has about a 50k btu equivalent system. Your typical 5k or even 10k system wouldnt do squat for a 120 degree interior car on a summer day. And ac systems over 15k run on 240v which means you would need a generator installed which almost no car has.

I had something like this but I ran it from a 12volt transformer off the mains electricity. I had it programmed to power up an hour before I set off for work every morning. I'd come out to find my neighbors trying to defrost their cars yet somehow mine was always frost free? :)

Do you have a video about how to run the wires through the firewall? The heater in my car works great EXCEPT for the floor heat and I have no idea why! But I need heat on my feet and legs! 🥶

This would be great for a vehicle that requires complete dash removal to replace the heater core! (such as a second generation Chevy S10) I've often tried to help people with failed heaters or heater cores by putting in an electric heater. But like Scotty said, until this unit they were all junk! Thanks for another great vid Scotty!

since Scotty made a video on bypassing the heater core to receive heat, I'd suggest he do one video on bypassing a leaky Power Steering cooler.

I appreciate a good vid on how to save some money, but what about the defrost function? I assume it would work once the interior of the car gets warm enough, would just take a lot longer.

I'm in a northern climate where it can get pretty cold. But when it comes to heaters, I often thought how instant heat would be nice by building an exhaust heat exchange right after the manifold.

I've never seen so much snow on Houston roads before, that's one for the record books. I just got power back a few hours ago, that was the worst part. no wifi!

Richard Doire your blend door is probably stuck in the heat position. The blend door motors sometimes break the plastic pivot point at the end that it uses to move the blend door from hot to cold. Chris

Hi friends, I have been working in my 07 Buick Lucerne. I don’t have heat on the passenger side. We looked every single options and even we took it to a dealership to get a professional diagnostic, they concluded that the only reason that could not get hot air on the passenger side is a door or something has to be broken inside of the black box (heater core box). We removed the dashboard plugged in all the wires harness and tested every single doors or vents, all of them are working normal. Finally I bought a new heater controller the one that you can adjust the temperature, position of the blown air, etc and still not hot air on passenger side. Any suggestions guys!!! Thank you.
