Cracking video Martin, I usually remove the rubber sleeves that the pin slides in and clean them and the hole they sit in , water gets in under the rubber finds a bit of swarf of metal and swells into rust totally stopping the pin from sliding. Keep up the good work fella 👍🇬🇧

Great to watch someone else working on a car. I'm sure the car companies deliberately put odd bolts on there so that you have to take it to the dealers for repair work. I think I get more tired getting up and down to get different tools than doing the job. Take care, Jeff

As ever a great tutorial. Top tip though, remove the disc retention screw before taking off the pads etc as if it is tight or a bit chewed up you can hold the disc with the handbrake to stop it slipping 👍👍 Also some pistons are clockwise and some are anti clockwise, need to check first as for example on the Mondeo MK3 the estates were different from the hatchback!

Great Video Martin Good to see the use of copper slip on the contact points for the pads in the carrier, very few people tend to use it now. It keeps everything free and reduces squeaky brakes Also a good brush of copper slip on that disc flange stops the alloy wheels seizing on. The amount of times Ive had to hammer rims off where people don’t both to grease it up 😡😡 Best Wishes Tim

You can bolt the caliper back on with just one pin and makes it easier to wind in as it’s held in place. Also taking brake resivior cap off helps. I did an Audi last weak and forgot to take cap off and it fired fluid out the cap seal. Luckily I got away with it. I also greased behind the boot to prevent seizing

I'm an ex Halfwits employee of nearly 20 years service, I would not give them the steam off my 9iss. However in thier defense and many other socket set providers of similar value would provide, the 7mm hex and 18mm socket and provide a lifetime warranty. Seriously what do you expect. Before anyone shouts about warranty, shout Fit for purpose first at the branch.

Another good video Martin. Seems like it was a bit of a battle though. I always clean everything with brake cleaner first as it helps the piston move. I have also started using ceramic brake grease instead of copper grease. I find its better for the specific application.

Should have taken the cap off the brake fluid reservoir Martin. You're pressuring the system trying to wind the pistons back in with the cap in situ. You can blow the seals in the reservoir cap otherwise. There's also better products out there for the lubrication of the pads on the caliper carrier and the slider pins, something like Permatex brake lube springs to mind.
@retrorestore
@retrorestore 2 жыл бұрын
Andrew, I've done other vids where I explain about removing the reservoir cap bud. You won't blow any seals. I have the whole range of lubrication bud and copperslip is fine for the carrier and rubber grease is fine for the slider pins. You of course are able to choose what you want to use.
@MrZimmaframe
@MrZimmaframe 2 жыл бұрын
Just an fyi for anyone doing this, put the disc on with the little grub screw, and then the caller carrier with its 2 e10 bolts. Then get a small screwdriver and run it round the inside of the rubber boot to prevent it sticking to the corrosion and ripping of twisting like in Martin case. Then you can attach the caliper with the bottom bolt to the carrier leaving the other bolt off this way it doesn't move around and you can get your wind back tool on to the piston on your own and wind it back, without needing someone's foot 😄.
