Yes, but it is a technical marvel. No first-time director could have shot the setpieces Nolan tackled. I was in awe at some of those sea battle scenes.

Max Messar I really don't understand the negative criticism towards Dunkirk as of recent? Could you care to inform me why, because the film is a near technical masterpiece. The cinematography is amazing, acting really good, setting is great, the score is awesome, editing is fantastic, and the visual effects are amazing also. And it has a classic war film sense to it. Also if you bring up the point that it doesn't really have much characterisation, well it doesn't matter for this type of film, since it focuses on the event rather than characters, which was clearly intended.

damien The characters morals were told through actions, like Farrier using the rest of his fuel to take down the bomber plane instead of heading back to base for example. People like to hate on Christopher Nolan to sound smart. They'd much rather watch Micheal Bays Pearl Harbour.

It's a series of impersonations that most decent actors can do. It's not hard to act like a little kid or whatever.

He did overdo a couple of the roles, but watch the scenes where he changes personalities onscreen. That was skill.
