I've watched about 20 reviews on the Mantis X10 and your review had the best in depth information of them all. I really appreciate the time you put into this review. I purchased my X10 a few days ago and I'm excited to see how much I can improve.

Thank you very much Chris I think you are going to like the Mantis X10 for both dry fire practice and live fire at the range. I used its recoil meter feature again the other day to compare recoil with/without a compensator on my HK45 pistol. When the Mantis starting calling out some low scores it really made me return to the fundamentals of good shooting. Got the scores back up into the 90's.

Informative review, I do have a question though. Over the 2 years would you say using it had a measurable impact on your shooting performance either in accuracy or other areas compared to simple dry fire practice?
@sdkweber3 жыл бұрын
Hello Drew, good question. I would have to say "yes". You see with dry fire I get no feedback. I do not see a bullet hole in the target, no score, nothing. So it is easy to think, "I am doing great". The mantis takes dry fire to the next step and provides feedback (score, time, etc.). As a result, I have gotten to know my trigger much better and use that as a fundamental block when I am out at the range. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.

I just purchased and received a Mantis X10, Not at all a surprise as I had viewed many videos. I am far from a great shot or a computer nerd. My weapon is striker fired. Unlike your hammer fired pistol, it is on dry fire far less compatible. I need to rack the slide to cock the trigger. Do that 20 or so rounds do that 20 times and your fingers will surely hurt. Do it 50 times, and it will be a test of pain tolerance, stubbornness for me personality disorder. Best way to get me to do anything is to say you can't do that. Computer non-nerd. Blue tooth? OOPs it needs to be turned on on your device. Once I discovered that, it works fine with a Kindle. Lose it? Break it? Kindles are far less expensive than a laptop or a smart phone.

How’s it going? I’ve found you build up. I’m doing up to 300 racks a day on a Shield 1.0 9mm, a stubborn racket for sure.

Great vid one question. Does it matter if you're aiming at a further target vs one close to you? I'm assuming it's not aware of the target just pistol movement? Just confused if I was aiming at 15m target wouldn't my movement be increased vs aiming at 5m ? Thanks
@sdkweber Жыл бұрын
Exactly. You could be aiming far off the bullseye (at any range) and still score very well with the Mantis because it is scoring on a good steady trigger squeeze and follow through assuming the shooter did their part of putting the sights on target. I have used this indoors (dry fire), with pistols at 7-15 yards, and rifles from 50-350 yards.

Thanks for the review. I am torn between buying the mantis X3 and the Mantis Laser Academy. What do you recommend?
@sdkweber5 ай бұрын
You are welcome. We have a number of videos on the various Mantis products including the Laser Academy (link here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nsiIfKafnqnae5c.htmlsi=lgb3h77xdHqZ1Dpi). In my own use I think and would recommend the X10 (or X3) over the Laser Academy. Primarily because it can be used dry fire or live fire and because of the data it collects for future analysis/review.
@jonnsmusich Жыл бұрын
It was your statistical analysis that sold me. Yeah ammo is the variable. And I can't use it on my CZ. No rail.
@sdkweber Жыл бұрын
All is not lost. They make rail adapters for many magazines, see this mantisx.com/collections/rail-adapters I use the mag rail for my 1911s and have switched over to the mag rail for my other pistols when I am doing holster draw drills. (NOTE: if you are using a kydex holster, even one fit for the Mantis attachment, the hard kydex will eventually break the mantis... I had to replace my Mantis X10 a few months ago).

@@sdkweber Thanks. Got the rail for the CZ and have been using it two month with very obvious improvement in accuracy. With the PDP, which is striker fired I get four or five absurdly low scores because the mantis records rack ing. Which I then have to delete. But I appreciated your review. Am just about to start the elite course.
@sdkweber Жыл бұрын
@@jonnsmusich I have a striker fired HK VP9 that will do that also. With most striker fired pistols you don't have to rack the slide completely but actually very little to reset that trigger. On my VP9 it less than 1/2". Doing this, I have all but eliminated those false recordings. You may also be able to adjust the sensitivity of the Mantis X in the software/app. Sounds like things are going pretty well for you otherwise. Take care.

It's almost good to hear it misses some on live fire recoil. I ended up getting the X3 but was wondering if I would regret not spending the extra $100 more or so to get the X10. There'a almost a 2 fold price difference between the two so I went with the X3.
@sdkweber3 ай бұрын
I think you will be happy with your purchase. Mantis frequently upgrades their app and a recent upgrade suggests rapid fire may be captured now, but I have not tested it. Thanks for watching and posting.

@sdkweber3 жыл бұрын
That has been a while ago and I do not see a reply as I sorted through my emails. I am now wondering if they ever received my email and so I just sent another. I hope to hear back from them and will let you know if/when I do hear back. Thanks for watching and posting.
@sdkweber3 жыл бұрын
Well that was incredibly fast. I just received a reply to my email (they must not have received the previous one) in less than 10 minutes. They indicated they are working on that for the X10 but do not have an ETA for it. They are hoping it will happen soon! I think this may be quite difficult and may be limited by the engineering of the X10 and smartphones. Let's see what happens.
@eddieagha58513 жыл бұрын
I'm not surprised that they responded fast. I usually get responses from them to my questions in one or two days. I have their Pink Rhino and have been practicing with the free version right now of their Laser Academy. So far I've been very impressed. Thank you also for responding quickly!

Yes, it helps just like dry-fire. The advantage of the Mantis is it provides feedback and of course, it can be used during live fire also.
