Purchase a bare block or in the process of doing a build after a full teardown and not sure what needs to be plugged or have that mysterious no oil pressure on fire-up? Nick goes over some of the oil plug hardware needed on your LS as well as the mysterious and elusive barbell galley plug.

Great job on explaining the oil gallery “Bar-Bell” and it’s function. I have been a dealer tech and used the GM tube of thread sealant, now sold by Permatex. Following & cleaning plus checking every component in the oil galleries and passages is extremely important. Be very careful of the other GM feature in the oil pan dump. What? If the filter becomes a high restriction it can open a spring-loaded ball valve and dump oil into the pan because it is part of it. If your pan doesn’t have one, good. Just understand that if it is a home build and a stock pan is used, look for it. It needs staked, plugged or removed, tapped and threaded to accept a sealed plug. What pressure does it open at? Good question as it is not published and it does not know. Trash holds it open a faction, low oil pressure, spring losses tension with heat and time. That’s why they make new valve springs to achieve correct valve seat pressure. Many aftermarket pans come without it, as Martha Steward says, “That a good thing.” Please look and never forget the front & rear lifter oil gallery seals. Yes twin galleries that supply oil from the back to the front, then sealed by the cam plate. Videos show folks rubbing a finger over it install to feel for a raised surface. It is cheap! Replace it and get your oil to the parts. Don’t chance it as right or wrong, Permatex 518 red jelly seals machined surfaced to seal in the absence of air. I wipe a tiny controlled amount over this sealing surface. I feel strongly about the oiling system! Hopes this helps just one guy/gal on their LS build. This guy is not wrong! PARTS SHORTAGE! In the marine field I think we have more jobs waiting on back orders than we have completed. That might be a bit of exaggeration but some customers begin to think we are just dragging our feet.

My 2011 camaro L99 6.2 now has the (floating) 14-16 psi idle on hot engine 250F and 26 psi when temp is around 225F. Cold idle is 50 Psi. Oil pump and pickup tube are new. No metal signs in the oil filter. I can hear very light crank bearing sound that could be hear Only under the car. Ticking lifters sound (as usual) presents. Could you please advise is it normal ? 115K Mileage 5W30 outside temp 105F

If you wouldn't mind. I would like to know about GEN V ecu's i.e. is the factory ecu the only one that can use a fuel (ethanol) "sniffer?" Is there any that are drive-by-cable? What is the best solution you have found? So on. Thank you!

You can technically run a Gen 3 PCM, there are write-ups and videos on using the 411/P01 PCM out of a 2002 Flex Fuel Tahoe. It requires an operating system update on your Gen III pcm. This allows the use of a flex fuel sensor as well. A lot of the gen IV PCMs used a "virtual sensor" that adjusted fuel trims according to the O2 sensor readings. This is relatively ok for stock cars, but it goes pear shaped on a modded car. We recommend running a flex fuel sensor, switching from virtual to sensor in the tables using HPTuners as well as a proper calibration with a baseline of regular pump gas and then E85 so it can properly blend accordingly. You'll need to follow the instructions closely for any flex fuel sensor install as you'll need to pin in that sensor into the PCM harness. Gen V PCMs are going to be just like the Gen IV PCMs. There will be a lot more in-depth tuning needed especially if you have more mods. Cold start/remote start can be troublesome and will require some fine tuning as sometimes the car won't do a remote start if it doesn't light off right off the bat.

Can that threaded port at the front left (driver's) side be used to screw an oil pressure test gauge fitting into to get an oil pressure reading? Do you know what size thread it is (3/8 NPT or whatever)? Does an LS7 and/or LT4 have this same threaded port? Thanks for the video!

LS is M16 x 1.5 LT is M12 x 1.75 (it is usually blocked off or covered/in use by a power steering pump on trucks)

Do you really need to replace it when doing a rear main seal? Not building a performance engine just daily driver truck .

Do you have to? No. It's just that little bit of added insurance if it has high miles and you're back there anyway.

I have a question... I'm building an LQ4 iron block, does it matter if the barbell is aluminum? Don't dissimilar metals do strange things together?

You won’t have to worry about it long if you put that in there you won’t have an engine that stays together long enough to worry about it.

If you building the engine chances are you are at least a mechanic and have access to a drill and a tap set .. I would drill it and run a tap into it and thread a small bolt onto it and then remove it using any type of a screwdriver with a spacer for leverage
