Hey thanks for the testing. Very interesting results. It's NOT a poor use of resources, especially since you enjoy it. I feel the same way about my projects such as restoring old machinery that very few folks care about. Please keep it up! I've got a lot of experience with Buick cars from the 80's. We've seen several instances where Buick 3.8L engines will ingest many quarts of Dexron from the transmission of the car. This can happen because there is a vacuum hose connected between the engine manifold and the transmission modulator. If the modulator diaphragm fails, it will allow the engine to ingest massive amounts of transmission oil. In these instances, I have seen similar results to yours. The trans oil acts as an engine flush, cleaning up the crankcase deposits and dissolving them in the oil. This is not a problem on well maintained engines. However, if the engine has not seen regular oil changes, or the filter is already blocked with debris - the cleaning action can cause too much debris to break loose and begin circulating in the oil. In one case, it caused the engine to fail rod bearings. This happened because so much debris circulated it actually blocked the oil feed holes in the main bearings from the oil gallery in the block!

I'm an engineering type but always gravitated to software because I don't really have the brain for hardware, and I find this channel fascinating because it's a great way to get an idea about how simple engines work by poking at them and testing them in various ways - just like we do with code we don't understand in software.

I have to say a lot of things I always was curious about but wouldn't do to my own motors out of fear of sad days after you've done and its been hugely appreciated from folks like me, sincerely thank you for the lessons and the entertainment, I've spent most of my life working on cars its been my biggest joy /passion and I'm always learning something. I've never tried atf to clean the combustion chamber, but I've used it in the crankcase to clean some of the crud out of the oil passages and such. Works very well, in my opinion.

I’m a huge nerd for engines and always want to find ways to keep my engines running forever and also learn if I can restore damage without taking apart the engine. You are one of the only channels i fully trust to not false advertise a bad product or bring a biased review, I simply want to learn by facts and that’s exactly what you do. That being said, im a believer in seafoam, I would definitely never try what you did with water or atf, but your results were very interesting and I’m impressed you’re willing to put your equipment to the test to get to the answer.

I have worked on and built engines since I was 13 years of age when I built a mini bike with and old B&S lawn mower engine my dad was going to throw away. I had to rebuild the B&S engine on my own. That was my introduction to the world of internal combustion engines. I am now 69 years old and still working on engines (my 86 Harley Sportster, put a Buick V6 in a 75 Porsche 914, I build gas bikes, etc.). I really enjoy your videos. They are very informative. I've been watching these for around an hour and I love them. I'd like to request results on high methanol content wiper fluid. It's just water, methanol, and a bit of blue. The methanol should help the decarbonizing as well as the combust ability of the mixture a bit... The methanol is only going to break away from the water when you ignite it.

Thanks for this whole series of "Seafoam vs." videos. My experience is that it really doesn't matter what fluid you introduce into the combustion chamber, the end result is that carbon will be broken loose. Your videos show that to be the case. :)

I use ATF periodically in my 88 Ford F250 7.3 diesel pickup. It does a decent job cleaning the injectors.

I enjoy your videos!! ATF I use to free sticking injectors in Diesel engines old and new systems. They removed sulphor which is a lubricant, also the detergents Free sticking injectors. At 2200$ a for a diesel injector On some engines that’s a lot of atf. Lot easier adding some to the diesel than replacing injectors

I enjoy your video's And whomever said its a waste of money and resources apparently has never been in tight situations before. Now it is true that most additives should be used as a last resort in certain situations, but don't think it is ever a waste of money when your educating people. A fuel injector on some cars range up to over $100 dollars a piece and if sea-foam can clean them vs spending $100 dollars for one injector, I don't see that as a waste of money. Even testing products out on little engines is educational. So, I don't think your wasting your time on this video's.

I've been using ATF on my Engines to flush them every oil change for the last 15 years. Keep in mind I use this on older cars that have build up and can or have potential sludge issues. I drain my oil. Fill up engine with 4 quartz of ATF and let engine run on idle for about 15 minutes. Drain ATF, install new oil filter and oil. ATF does a good job at cleaning the crankcase. This method was shared with me by a Technician at Nissan many years ago.

Great videos! However, does it really make for any difference in engine performance whether the combustion is "clean" or has deposits? I'd also like to see the cleaning effects of running under very heavy load; like WOT at moderately high RPM. Maybe something to try if you can devise some sort of engine brake.

I have always heard add a quart of ATF if you have noisy lifters. Way back in the day when I was a kid in a small town there weren't any name brand part stores , so you just went and bought ATF as a 1st line of defence of a noisy motor. If it was just carbon buildup it normally worked quickly by memory. Now I have been dishing out for seafoam for a couple years but I'm thinking going back to ATF is cheaper...?

Iv used atf with water. I shake it up in a used fuel additive bottle and let it sit for a few days until it's pink. Iv done it twice and i haven't had any issues. Only a smoother engine.

I wouldnt do what you are doing myself but that doesnt mean its not worth wile. Seafoam is a good control since it's know to work. I would like to hear the logic behind why some of these things would be claimed to work. Since many de cokink products are based on acetone compounds I think acetone would be a good and cheap chemical to test. Here in sweden ATF would probably be more expensive than seafoam so there goes the whole point of using it for me other than the fact hat it didn seem very effective at decoking the combustion chamber.

Having watched all 6 episodes of SeaFoam, I'm left with essentially one question. I'm assuming the old Ford Ranger did not have an EVAP system consistent with newer vehicles. I would love to see results on a newer vehicle (one with a modern emission system) if at all possible. Your videos have proven almost conclusively that SeaFoam is great at cleaning up engines. I'm just curious if there are any ill effects on more modern systems.
