THANK YOU SO MUCH! This is my favourite ever pattern. It has turned out slightly different from yours - but I LOVE IT! I WISH I could share a photo. I went for the 2nd size in pattern. I am UK size 16. I used LionBrand Heartland (love the flow of this yarn) - AND added tassels around the rim and sleeves. My cardigan has ended up being to my knees (tassels to top of calves). Such a flowing item of clothing. I have now made two (they are quick to make!) - had so many compliments. I LOVE your cast on technique - really does stop the seam bunching - AND this stand alone DC is wonderful. Thank you again for your amazing pattern and tutorial xx

Thank you SO much for the new crochet skills like the wonderful foundation chain and the chainless beginning DC. Two things that have always bugged me are the first row on a chain and the chain three at the beginning of a row. xoxo

I made the panels earlier this summer but I was afraid to block it. I bought a steamer and blocked it and sewed it up today. I made it with this same yarn that you used and it came out great! I am so excited. I am going to make a few more. I have some of the other red heart colors and I want one in black and white so I will be going to purchase that today or tomorrow. This is an awesome pattern!!!

Hi from Ireland thanks for this it's a gorgeous pattern, such a great idea, I will make for myself first then do for friends as gifts, I was wondering could it be sized down for a child, thanks so much your very talented ,it's great to see someone young so gifted, I am 71years young, xx
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Deborah. Yes, you could size this down for a child. You'll need to start with an odd number of stitches, making your panel twice as wide as you want the cardigan length to be from shoulder to hem. Then, work the rows of the pattern until your piece is more than 1/4 the chest measurement when measured from the foundation edge to the top of the last row. I hope this helps!
@justagramma
@justagramma 3 жыл бұрын
I also want to make this for children. My 9 year old grandaughter asked for one and I'm sure her four sisters will want one too. Problem is she doesn't live near me so I can't measure her and I don't know if they will understand where I'm asking them to measure
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Ruth. If you aren't able to measure the recipients, you could just ask them for their clothing sizes. Then, you could go by the Craft Yarn Council's standard body measurements for each size. www.craftyarncouncil.com/standards/child-youth-sizes Keep in mind that those are body measurements, not measurements for the finished garments, so I would recommend making the finished chest measurement of the cardigan a bit larger than the measurements given. You could take the chest measurement in the size chart, add at least 6 inches, and divide the total by 4. This would give you the finished height (from foundation edge to top row) to work for each panel. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any more questions. :)

I’ve never crocheted a garment before but I think I’ll give this one a try...once I get some of my WIPs done! ☺️ Edit: How did you make sure the color change in your yarn matched at the back seam?
@AuroraAlchemy
@AuroraAlchemy 5 жыл бұрын
I would try to either find two skiens that have the same color at the start of them and use one for each panel, or use only one skien that has the same color at both ends (check the tail on the outside, and the tail on the inside while you’re at the store to see if they start with the same color). The only other way I can think of would be to use a ball winder and wind up approx half the skien, attempting to split the skien at the middle of a color transition. Then, use the ends you cut apart as your starting tails. Use the winder to wind up each half into two, equal-sized skiens to work from. I’m sure you can cut out a color transition when you’re finished with the first panel to make sure you start on the same color, but that would waste a bunch of yarn. Hope this helps. I’m super curious to find out how she did it!
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Robin! I actually did not try to make the color change match at the seam. It just so happened that one panel in Size 1 used up about 1 color repeat in this yarn. If you want to make sure the colors match, the suggestions offered by Aurora Alchemy in the previous reply are good methods. Hope this helps!

Very nice and easy pattern, i have yarn category 1, which hook size should i use, i want to crochet cardigan size 2?
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn Жыл бұрын
If you wanted to make this cardigan with #1 Superfine yarn and a different hook size, I would not recommend attempting to change the pattern unless you feel comfortable altering patterns on your own. The hook size you use would depend on which size gave you the drape and feel you want in the fabric with your own personal crochet gauge. You would also need to recalculate the stitch counts and row counts based on your gauge with that hook and yarn to make the pattern work with that yarn. I hope this helps!

@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Marci! Either side of the work could be used as the right side. As for sewing the seam, it's just a whip stitch, so it doesn't matter whether you stitch from the right side or the wrong side of the panels. I stitched my seams from the right side. Hope this helps!

@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Mary! Just decide how long you want the cardigan to be from shoulder to hem, and double that measurement. That is how long you want each panel to be. The stitch pattern requires an odd number of stitches. So you'll need to choose an odd number of stitches that will give you the length you want for your total stitch count. You can then make the row of foundation double crochet with that number of stitches, and follow the pattern as normal to finish each panel. I hope this helps!

Could you on the back seam do the pattern to seam it so looks like all the same instead the break the pattern?
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Marcia. Are you referring to joining the panels with something that looks like the eyelet row so the stitch pattern flows across the back seam? You could do that if you prefer. I think it would look best to work a partial row of eyelets along the foundation edge of one of the panels before seaming. Hope this helps!

this may be a dumb question but why block ? this item will be washed all the time, does this mean each time you wash it you have to block it?, just wondering, im fairly new to all this. thanks
@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! This would depend on the fiber content. In this case, I used acrylic, which is machine washable. So I could just wash it, without having to block again. If it were made of something like wool, which is not machine washable, you would need to hand wash and lay it out flat to dry. Wool can get stretched out of shape when wet. There are different ways to block different types of fibers, so if you're looking for more info on blocking, see my video here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n9OKadt6ttmbaZ8.html I hope this helps!
