Please don't turn off comment! Yes the internet can be toxic but it's human expression. You have to take the good with the bad... As with everything else in life there's always going to be people in the room you rather wouldn't hear. But that doesn't mean you put in ear buds and ignore everyone. . I only say this because disabling comments is normally something people/groups do on YT who are in complete denial and can't handle the feedback. And it's never a good look for the channel involved. And I like this channel and want it to do well. :) Just my 2 cents, tc.

Aye, kinda ironic Hask talking about picking on people. Just listen to him at any Joe live event. Anyone bloke wearing a rugby shirt is a pathetic Virgin nause and a social loser that cant talk to women... He dishes it out but when someone dishes it back suddenly its abusive and not acceptable. I agree certain abuse is unnaceptable, but whered you draw the line? Where doea banter become abusive? Is it determined by the one receiving the insults/banter? Very hard to legislate this stuff as a lot of it is subjective.

Opus I agree to an extent. I guess one could say he’s at least saying it to their face as opposed to behind a keyboard and it could be seen as ‘banter’ even if it’s a bit childish. Plus it’s one guy. Lord knows what kind of stuff Caroline was having said to her because let’s be honest, people are generally waaay more extreme online. It was likely coming from an army of thousands as well.
@0verPar
@0verPar 4 жыл бұрын
@@somanytakennames yeah true, the amount of crap she had to deal with was out if order. Based off hearsay from garbage papers aswell. But like i say, its subjective. What if a sensitive depressed person comes to an event and gets roasted by James for being a loner/loser, who's to say that wont push them over the edge being humiliated in public. Which is why its hard to legislate this stuff, something that can be thought of as banter by one person could destroy someone else. Im all for stamping out direct threats or continued targeted harrassment, but you cant start banning people from writing nasty words. Because they may or may not be deemed offensive depending on the person on the receiving end.

@@0verPar Hask says that the media arent allowed to report on crimes involving celebrities until a final judgement. So.. injunctions basically? The kind of injunctions that protected celebrity paedophiles in the past? Hask's new friend Flack committed an assault on her partner AND on arresting police that was so bad that the police pursued the case even after the first victim withdrew any statement. "Put yourself in her shoes" says Hask? Kind of hard to do.. Hask's other new friend Caitlyn Jenner killed a 70 year old woman with her car and then lied about the fact that she was on the phone at the time. Police recommended manslaughter charges but.. famous person. -"everybody makes mistakes", Hask tells us. So if you are one of the great and the good, the set that Hask now associates with, youre above being reported on.. 'change the law' . Righto.. this is why noone trusts the media these days. Alex Payne sitting there saying 'yeah, yeah, terrible' Noone trusts the self serving media crowd anymore. Is it any wonder why they are finding themselves unpopular?

One thing that Hask forgot to mention was that Caroline Flack's ex boyfriend was going to make a statement about being abused....until he was given a load of dosh to sign an Non disclosure agreement. He newer boyfriend dialed 999 and said "My girlfriend is trying to kill me". Those are all undisputable facts. I agree with your points about being abusive Hask, but that surely extends to being abusive behind closed doors as well? All about the positivity. Really love the show!

As James doesn't read comments this is for Si, Alex, House of Rugby & Joe / whoever: In this (rightfully correct) stance to improve behaviour on social media following tragic events this weekend, don't you as his 'employers' think you need to call him out on his comments this week? Very much pot calling kettle black, James asked one of his friends (who wasn't looking especially glamorous in that instance) if they were waiting for the 'Sunshine bus'? He was eluding to transport for special needs people. I'm no snowflake, but I did work in care for a while & I'm sure I'm not alone in seeing his jokey comments as, at best insensitive, at worst mocking & insulting. You just can't 'attack' these poor guys who can't defend themselves. James had the perfect opportunity to apologise at the very start of this week's podcast, to highlight how everyone makes mistakes.... however he'd much rather get on his own high-horse about what needs doing, blah blah blah. Just because James is funny/entertaining, why do you persist with this guy who has publicly been rude/abusive several times over? There are other Rugby personalities out there who I'm sure are 'nicer' people; your tolerating James reflects badly on you & your organisation.

Kind of agree. I like Hask on the show ; he’s funny and entertaining. What he said wasn’t funny and he should have said sorry, but I don’t like the idea of banning people for what they say. We had mental health training at work recently and it made me realise how often I call people ‘mental’ or a ‘nutter’. I never say it to insult people with mental health issues. There’s a line between saying things you think are funny in the moment and being deliberately insulting.

@@wvcjshdsocjsj4477 When did he spread the hatred? No crime committed and Christianity is pretty marginalised as well with people being killed in large numbers around the world. If we talk about hatred then Folau lost his job and career with the wallabies. He was hounded out of a job because he did not go along with the group think now demanded in society. He gave a different point of view which used to be allowed in our society.......I would like to ask how are these people marginalised and at risk? They are protected in law, able to meet and have large festivals.....I have a feeling Folau is the one being marginalised. I wish it had gone to court as it would have given us all protection in free speech including both you and I. I fully agree that house of Rugby were allowed to say what they did about Folau as I think opinions from both sides matter.

Agree with a lot that the 'Hask' says about social media etc. However, mon brave policing/enforcement would be a nightmare with the way the Web is structured. On the the publishing of names, bear in mind that once an adult case hits the courts generally names are published and court reporters cannot be prevented from doing their jobs (unless a magistrate or judge imposes reporting restrictions that is). So two issues here; the reporting of cases before the courts in a liberal democracy needs preserving (sorry); but agree the social media trolling thing needs to be addressing. There needs to be some Media & Culture Committee action on regulating the 'Twittersphere'. Great programme though guys, keep it up.

Comments and social media is an interesting one, on one side it allows people to get closer to the people they sometimes idolise and a reply from someone can make their week. But, it also allows jealous, bitter shitrags to easily throw abuse at people. Obviously looking at my name here I come from the era of being whatever you want online, but I don't abuse people - enough do unfortunately.

I think you're assuming that her suicide was down to comments on social media. I think it was more likely down to her having mental health problems beforehand and worrying about going to jail and her career being over. As for HoR comments on YT. I'm a regular watcher and read most if not all of the comments each week. I've never seen any toxic comments. Most are positive, some are humorous and only a few express a disagreement with something that was said but pretty much always in a reasonable way.
