Vanden Plas is one of the rare bands that I buy CDs with my eyes (or ears ?!?!?!?) closed. Listened to a couple of songs on KZfaq and I can't wait to get my hands on this new gem on Friday.

2 spins already. One of the best prog-metal releases of the first quarter of 2024.

Can't wait for this one they always deliver. First time line-up change in their history with a new keyboard player. Extremely rare in any band's history.

I don't listen to as much new music as Pete and others who follow SOT, but this one has passed Whom Gods Destroy - Insanium as the best new release for 2024. Course it's early and I could change my mind. There I said it, best THING I've listened to this year.

This is their best album since Christ O. Ordered the vinyl early this morning.

It is a really really great album. Very catchy though, I need some time to really compare them to the best of their previous work because the immediate reaction is I love it!

Vanden Plas is one of those unique that, to me, dont have a masterpiece in their catalog but also no God awful releases. They always deliver quality music/songs and have their sound down pat. All their albums are in the 8-9 out of 10 range. Moreover, great artwork in all the releases.

Love the two single releases and your review already tells me I am going to love the whole album. As you said, they have never released a stinker. Christ-O is at the top for me, let’s see if this challenges!

It's a pretty good album, but then again Vanden Plas has always released quality music. After a half dozen listens, I dont think its as good as Christ O, The Seraphic Clockwork, or their Ghost Xperiment albums. But still very good. IMO, of course...

I have 4 other VP albums but not this one. I do own some prog metal but not hugely into that sub-genre (a lot of it's too heavy for me). These guys can mix it up at times, slowing things down & getting more melodic. Beyond Daylight appeals to me the most with Christ 0, Accult & The Good Thing all having moments. I'll check this one out when it hits my download services... Other new stuff: RPWL/True Live Crime - not bad, good band Blue Oyster Cult/Ghost Stories - they're filling out their contractual agreement so this isn't really a 'new album'. Actually the songs are from 1978-83 & were "reimagined and newly completed". Now I'm not a huge BOC fan but I did like 2 tracks: "Cherry" & "The Only Thing". Bigger BOC fans might like this because it's kind of a bonus release (since 2020's The Symbol Remains was supposed to be it), or they might hate it because it's not a new recording... Other 'new'/archival stuff (lotsa 70's & Canadian): Clicker - s/t & Harde-Har-Har-Har - mid 70's Wisonsin AOR/prog band, pretty good Baby Grand - s/t & Ancient Medicine - late 70's prog from Philly, guests include Michael Brecker & members of Utopia. Later turned into 80's band The Hooters Trillion/Clear Approach - I was missing this 1980 AOR album, good Chicago band Joshua Fox - s/t - good '69 LA psyche rock album, maybe my find of the week. The original Bread drummer was in this band Impala Syndrome - s/t - ditto, also from '69 (Venezuela) The Dave Chastain Band/Rockin' Roulette - solid 1980 Southern Rock with that classic twin guitar attack. "Breezin" could be a lost Allman Bros track. Might be hard to find I fact hit pay dirt this week with Southern Rock: MIssouri Dirt/It's For You (1977), South Paw-s/t (1977), Lakota-s/t (1979), Blue Condition - s/t (1983) & Mad Jack/Straight Up (1984) Zwol - s/t - 1978 Canadian rock - he also played in Brutus Madcats - s/t - 1978 rock goodness, my other big find this week. Another one of those really good/forgotten Canadian bands from that era. Ties to Fullerton Dam (excellent '76 album called Breaks) as well as the classic Lighthouse Crowbar - not sure how I missed this Canadian band until now, three pretty good early 70's rock albums Bugs Henderson Group/At Last - fine '78 blues rock from TX Topper/At Last - 1977 prog from Kansas City (pretty rare) Pre - s/t - 1977, some pretty good prog, Influences: Zep, Genesis, Yes, Genesis, Heep...Their only album Intra - s/t - 1976 jazzy prog, some compare it to Yes' Relayer Bad Habit/After Hours - AOR-ish rock from '89, with The Tangent/The Flower KIngs' Jaime Salazar, This led me to Planet Alliances s/t 2006 album labeled as 'melodic hard rock. With Mattias Ia Eklundh & Bob Daisley - some good melodic hooks (when they take their foot off the gas pedal) - fans of the heavier (almost metal) side should like this
