Walleye and sauger are a couple of popular members of the perch family. Both species share a lot of behavioral characteristics. For example, walleye and sauger adapt well to river environments and the classic bucktail jig ranks as one of the best ways to catch them.
On this week’s episode Jake Romanack teams up with Head-2-Head tournament pro and river guide Mike Hansen of Starved Rock Guide Service to explore the winter jigging opportunities on the Illinois River. Mike ran river charters all winter for those who weren't afraid to “break a little ice” in route to a limit catch. The weather might be brutal, but the sauger bite has our boys saying “just one more drift” over and over again.
