If someone told me I could pick only one KZfaqr to learn sailing from, I honestly think it would be Billy. This guy is so incredibly knowledgeable but totally unassuming. He is so even keeled. He never gets rattled. He seems to knows everything there is to know on the boat. I would feel completely comfortable with him in charge in any situation. He seems like he would be an incredibly patient teacher. I would also be cool with Colin from Parlay, Brian from Delos, and Riley from La Vagabonde. They all seem like great people. But there is just something about Billy’s disposition and knowledge that would make me totally at ease. And he and Sierra seem so like they are just meant for each other. Seeing them work together and do life together makes me super happy. You guys deserve nothing but good things in life and I hope you get it!

I very well remember the first video I saw of you living on a 26ft sailboat living a free life. It seemed "doable". So I did. I life the free life on my rusty 36ft trawler. This Seawind 1170 is super cool, and you deserve it for all the hard work you did, but it is so way beyond reach...

I am only 5 feet tall and when I saw the opening I was shocked. I would be laying down trying to reach things. Not fun. what if the engine is also hot. My short arms say no way. I would be cutting it asap. What was Seawind thinking. I also would want a shaft drive instead. This is one of my favorite brand of catamarans and I was also surprised that the brand new windows in the saloon wouldn't stay open and that wasn't even underway. Beautiful boat. We have a very old cat so seeing this one, makes me want a new one even more.

Hello from Alaska. Hey, thanks for the detailed technical tour. I sail a lot and watch a lot of sailboat reviews and dislike when the content creator doesn't really go into detail, but gives you a 5 minute tour of the boat. NO! I wanna see how much access there is around engines, how the wiring is run, how deep is each locker, how the running rigging is routed and used, where and how the tankage is stored, where instruments are located, etc. I want the 'full meal deal', so thanks for that! Was thinking about your helm seat and what type of fridge you could get. There are some awesome 12 volt chest type freezers that look like coolers that might fit in that space. That way, you'd never have to worry about filling the area up w/ ice, trying to find ice, etc. I installed one on my catalina 30 a few years ago. It's a small unit but you can get various sizes. Here's my review: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/astyeal8tNu8iXk.html I've seen other reviews of the 1170 and a couple of them don't like the single step from the deck to the cabin top. I can see how it would be an issue in rough weather, especially with the lack of a handhold on the way up. Any thoughts about adding another step or two? Good video. Thnx for the detailed look!

Heyy Billie - one suggestion - I used a soft shackle to attach a small block to the back of the helm seat to route the davit line to the electric winch. The geometry worked well on a 1260 and made pulling up the heavy end of the dinghy pretty nice.

Hi I would suggest you buy a portable gas fire pump. In a case of emergency for striking a reef or like being struck by another boat. Yes you have a bilge pump but bit of trash or a blown fuse. Sea water doesn't stop. I'm not trying to scare you. Just something to think about. Happy sailing 🎉

Good stuff. I sailed on a 1260. The Dinghy attachment for the crossings was problematical at best, not at all well designed. The extra tie point you have under that hand rail would've really helped. One thing I think I would do for the dinghy, Drill a big hole on the aft starboard side (low point) and install an ABS or PVC (schedule 80 so UV) so it can drain. Traveler set up is good. I'd mark the sheet so at the winch you can tell where the boom is. Paint pen or color tape. Otherwise you have to get your head above the dodger to see, and at night it's more difficult to see. It can't be done, but I'd have really liked the tint on the window where the chartplotter is to be clear at the bottom. When it's cold and you have that window closed it can be really hard to see the the screen through the tint. I'm guessing your clears are similar to the ones we had on the 1260. just past that winch. Three months 7000 nmiles, a lot of high seas and rain, they protected the helm about 95% of the time. When they didn't it wasn't too bad. Blowing rain on my left sleeve. The only things I'd like different is an attachment point on top of the dodger for when you want them out of the way, and maybe some way to clear the winch for the handle.... (but this winch clearance is about the same as every other boat I've been on, including , mine not that big a deal) If I wanted more protection short of enclosing the entire back deck. Maybe a 2' (70cm) wide piece that snaps in behind the standard clears. What I'm looking forward to (as soon as I can find someone who actually wants the work) is the new B&G system (I'm told) can use an iPad as the second display. That would be ideal, then I can keep an eye on things anywhere on the boat. I'd mount a small LED on the lid of the nav desk. That's where all the stuff is, the sun's going down, no lights are on, headlamp is in the charger, you need..... Daybed is great, two people can stretch out in the saloon. I would however really like a chair back of some kind on the roving ottoman. When I wasn't outside on watch, I was sitting on ottoman looking at the monitor. Maybe get a folding directors chair. (I've been on sets you can sit comfortably for hours in them. And they fold up.) Terrific you have AC. It's not just for comfort in the tropics, it's also a dehumidifier. On your battery switches. Does the center of those pop in and out? On the 1260 and on my boat the batteries got run down, everybody got worried, is the bank now dead?? And after a full day someone (finally) says, "Did you do the reset?" I took photos and studied the bank switches on the 1260 completely failed to notice one was flush the other inset. In both cases the push of a button all good, no harm done. Find out what screws are on the clutches, and get a pile of the rings for the life lines (we ended up using fish tackle clips) and have some stainless steel piano wire on board (It's dirt cheap). Keep your tape in baggies and that weird roll you never use will still be good two years from now when you need it for something.) Also for a lot of cups and bottles rolls of duct tape make really good cup holders for rough conditions. Vacuum sealing. I just pulled out of my home freezer (more reliable) some bell peppers I slice thin, vacuum sealed two years ago. They cooked up fine. You're not supposed to vacuum seal onions or mushrooms. I've sliced thin (mandolin) onions, vacuumed sealed them and froze them. Unfrozen is where the problems happen. They seemed good. I'm sure you know, when you've been at sea for two weeks and the veggies have all been eaten or thrown overboard... After a week in fog and everything even deep in the compartments got damp and mildewy, I kicked myself for failing to keep my clean close in the extra dry bags I bought. And just last month I made several dry bags out of silnylon to keep my clothes in on my boat. Also keeps any boat smell off them. I made my dry bags so the plastic bins sit inside them, now instead of a floppy bag I've just got to unroll the top and the 'sides' are rigid. OXO makes nice squegees on bases that you stick on the wall in the head, then after a shower you squeegee down the walls and door, no water spots. Also in the head is where the soot from the propane stove condenses into little 'feathers.' For those hatches. I just used a piece of cardboard. If you can split the opening with just a few inches of a 'panel' instead of a stick, then you'll always get some degree of a flow in and out. Like a transom window. Works amazingly well. Apparently just about everyone has forgotten about this. Lift doors are great, incredibly reliable. Seawind makes really strong boats. Nothing including those doors change 1/10th of s mm in 7000 rough nMiles. Hypervent for the mattresses? Sorry to be such a busy body. Promise won't do it again.
