Part 1: • Sebastian Telfair Disl...
--------
Former NBA player Sebastian Telfair didn't hold back when discussing the comparisons between Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan. Telfair emphasized his admiration for Kobe but made it clear that Kobe is not Michael Jordan. He acknowledged Kobe's achievements and influence but insisted that Jordan's impact on the game remains unparalleled. Telfair also touched on Kevin Durant's place in the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) debate, suggesting that while Durant has accomplished much, he needs to wait until his career concludes to be fully appreciated. When discussing influential players, Telfair agreed with LeBron James' assessment that Allen Iverson and Steph Curry have significantly impacted the NBA. However, he believes no one has influenced the game like LeBron, especially in terms of player conditioning and professionalism.

Lemme jump in on this one lmao, hell naw, Kobe sure didn't score as easy as Mj, and Lemme tell you why, Kobe ALWAYS had multiple bodies on him, 2, 3 and 4 defenders everytime the ball was in his hands as to where Mj always had 1 on 1 single coverage. Kobe was a threat to all of his opponents and no one guy could guard him and everybody knew it. Kobe was the MOST difficult shot maker in the league because nothing came to him easy due to the fact that he ALWAYS got double or triple teamed in defense. So that alone speaks 🗣 on how great Kobe was.

@@Professorlive Kobe owned the league legit from 01 to 2013. Offense & defense. Duncan & KG were the only 2 who's defense was on par with Kobe's for an extended period of time. But neither had the offensive game that Kobe had for as long as Kobe did.

I've said this before. Kobe gets compared to the old MJ... the 30+ year old MJ. The young Mike was a BEAST. In the 86-87 NBA season, MJ averaged 37.1 ppg. This was MJs 4th year in the league! I love Kobe, but we have to keep real. The league needed a replacement after MJ retired, and Kobe was the next best thing. No, one wants to remember the down years when Shaq left and Kobe was having a bad stretch as a player, and he took a lot of BAD shots...

@@honestman3918 OK, I get it. I struck a nerve with you. But we need to stop having a revisionist history when it come to Kobe. When Shaq left LA Kobe struggled to lead his team to the finals. I don't even think he made it out of the 2nd round of the playoffs. He didn't win until they traded for Paul Gasol. Those years without Shaq was rough for Kobe. So much so that he demanded a trade to Chicago. Why? To follow in the footsteps of MJ. He will forever be in the shadow of MJ. Because he tried so hard to pattern his game after Mike. Mike made the game to easy, Kobe forced his game and took A LOT of BAD shots.

@@bigfolks675 OK but here are some facts NBA MVP - KB 1, MJ 5 Finals MVP - KB 2, MJ 6 I only highlighted these two accolades because this is where it matters the most. Now Kobe has five rings, but with the first 3 he was riding Shaqs coat-tail. Shaq was a dominant force and he was the Finals MVP of the first three. It was clear that it was Shaqs team. Just think Pippen has more rings than Kobe, but we would never rank Pippen above Kobe because although Pippen contributed, Jordan was the leader. This is why MJ won all 6 of the Finals MVPs. This is how I view Kobes first three rings.

The thing that affects Kobe's legacy (and I won't say hurts) is that he mimicked Jordan his entire career, meaning he was always going to be Robin to Jordan's Batman. Think about it, the respect he NEVER was willing to give to Shaq, he gave to Jordan in spades without question. I do think Kobe is the all-time Laker, and that's saying quite a bit with Wilt, Jerry West, Magic, LeBron, Kareem, Elgin Baylor, Shaq etc. But Kobe was there for 20 yrs and it's the only uniform he donned.

Lebron changed the game too. Kobe didn't he kept the MJ ball hog glory ball legacy going. Bron meanwhile became the best overall player ever and made players focus on more than scoring in their game and be recognized for it. Steph re-shifted the emphasis back to scoring but more so made 3 pointers a regular part of a players game instead of just one or two guys who shoot threes. He made threes more exciting than dunks somehow lol And A.I. as we all know merged Street style ball and HIP HOP with a major suit and tie corporation like the NBA. Kevin Durant while known for his offensive prowess did not change anything, he kept the scoring legacy going from MJ and Kobe and that's why he's not held up as high.

Jordan was a phenomenal player. But I believe the combination of the shoes, the coverage of the Dream Team, Space Jam, him being in a Michael Jackson video, and the "Like Mike" commercial all worked to create this surreal moment in sports. So, it's not just the talent NBA greats after him are being compared to, it's that nostalgia surrounding Jordan, which I don't think can be topped. I feel like Jordan was the most fluid scorer ever. He would contort his body 5 times to get the shot off. It looked like a gymnast playing basketball. If you think he's the greatest fine. But this notion that other greats are nowhere near his level, I just don't buy it. The fact of the matter is if they faced on in their primes Kobe wasn't going to stop MJ. And MJ wasn't going to stop Kobe. You can feel Jordan is slightly better in some ways. But not so much so where he would dominate a prime Kobe.

Kobe is one of the most influential basketball players of all time its him and Jordan kobe is popular in other countries most of your favorite players not even that popular in different countries thats including LeBron and steph Curry dont believe me look it up or watch the US games with kobe in you'll see for yourself stop down playing the goat like that bc you like another player more doesn't mean you can knocked down the others goats. If you have alot of haters thats let you kno you done your job right. R.I.P Kobe The Goat 🐐 Bryant

Ppl added lebron but I think that was marketing/ narrative. Once he left Cleveland to join Miami many dismissed him. KD can't stay healthy and when he jumped over to GSW killed that for many. Kobe is amazing, but he had Shaq and he didn't influence the game like MJ. Kobe was prepped to be the face of the league that's why Iverson disliked him, Eddie Jones spoke about that many times who was the SG before Kobe.

I get that A.I. is considered influential for his corn rolls, baggy clothes and tattoos (Even though Dennis rodman was the first to blaze that trail), but how did Steph Curry influence the game? The Don Nelson led Mavericks of the late nineties were the first Team(s) to start posting the entire team up around the perimeter and start jacking up threes for the entire game, that I can recall. Jordan's influence was such, that every up and coming basketball player from then til now, emulates his style of play be it the flashy dunks, the creative under the rim layups, the baseline fake when doubled... he was the face of the NBA for years and one of the key players that helped it blossom overseas due to his global popularity... he revolutionized the wave of players getting sneaker endorsements and their own signature shoe(s)... and he's your favorite basketball players favorite basketball player. How is his impact (on the game) not mentioned in the conversation?

The only two in NBA history to win the scoring title and make 1st team all defense in the same season are Kobe and Jordan. And they both did multiple times. Not LeBron, not Magic, not Bird or Duncan, not even Kareem or Wilt did it. On both ends of the floor they're in a class by themselves whether y'all like it or not.

Kobe was like the most MJ-like player ever aside from MJ himself lol. Jordan is definitely the GOAT but nobody should be mad if others put Kobe up there either. A lot of people who grew up watching Kobe didn't watch Jordan's heyday or feel how he took the NBA to different levels of a worldwide phenomenon after Magic and Larry saved the whole league in the 80's. Kobe is certainly the GOAT of his generation, in my opinion.
