Yes, they are good machines, just not very attractive in my opinion.

Ian Meen The brush will be in the highest position anyway when the cleaner is upright. I have never like the auto height adjustment and find that the G1 cleans better than all of the automatic X models I've owned.

on carpets

The brush roll on the Sebo is better than the DC40 and sweeps up pet hair and clinging dirt in one pass. When I use the DC40 for regular cleaning I have to make two or three passes over certain debris before it is picked up. If Dyson fitted two strips of brushes to the DC40, it may do better on pet hairs.

Yes it's great on carpets but poor on floors. It would be great if Sebo could produce a twin motor upright based on the X series with the ability to turn the brush roll off. I wonder how well the Evolution cleans hard floors.

@@ibaisaic in my mind im saying you could remove the brushroll to do hard floors but on the other hand the cleaner might not work properly without it due to the brush sensor. just an idea to minimize scattering. would be nice if they integrated a rubber strip behind the brush to give a better seal on floors

The suction isn't the most powerful on this model, but the stiff brushroll does most of the work to release the dirt into the airstream.

ok. thank you for letting me know. Do you know of a great vacuum you could recommend? I have tons of pets and a toddler. I vacuum every other day almost, carpet and hardwood floors. I need something that lasts and could probably suck our eyeball out of your skull. lol

The Evolution is a commercial machine which is why it has a shorter guarantee, but I’m sure it will last a long time especially in a domstic situation. I will be unboxing an Evolution soon.

+TheSololobo Unfortunately there is no way to overide the automatic height adjustment on your model without disconnecting the wires to the servo motor that moves the wheel. It is normal for the height adjustment to fluctuate up and down in use, even on the same carpet which is why I prefer the manual height adjustment on my G1. There is a new model of X4 called the Pet Eco Boost that has a button in the middle of the cleaning head that disengages the automatic feature allowing the head to remain at a lower height to enable a deeper clean. If you are still able to return your X4 and replace it with the boost model, that should solve your problem, although you may find that after some use, the automatic feature will become less sensitive as the brush wears down slightly.

+ibaisaic Thanks for the reply. And I agree with your assessment of the 4x, it does glide to easily on the surface of the carpet to give it that deep clean feel. Although I must say, it did perform way better than my hoover windtunnel that lays right smack on top of the carpet. Hopefully I'll have no problems exchanging it for the G1 and avoid any restocking fee.

You can buy an extension hose and wands for the Felix and even a shoulder strap.

I have the pipe Sebo sells for the Felix but i would like the style of wand used on the X4. It looks better. A shoulder strap is great idea!

We only have a small selection of Oreck cleaners in the UK and the Graphite is not one of them. We don't have the Hoover Windtunnel in the UK either, but I have reviewed a Maytag Windtunnel which was a Hoover design from the USA. Hoover cleaners sold in the UK are completely different to the ones you get in the States as they are different companies despite having the same name. Vax in the UK have the same parent company as Hoover in the U.S. and we sometimes get similar models like the Air Cordless for example.

I know you live in the USA. We do not have Riccar vacuums in the UK. The main brands available in the UK are from Dyson, Hoover, Vax, Numatic, Miele, Sebo, Panasonic & Bissell, but there are other brands too.

ibaisaic well I was right about no Riccar vacuums there. One reason I thought they don't sell the Riccar vacuums there is because I have been in Canada and never saw any Riccar vacuums there. EVER.

Every home that has both carpeting and hard floors needs both. Uprights apply more weight directly to the carpeting and deep clean carpeting better and canisters have more suction and are more flexible so they can clean underneath furniture and clean baseboards so that you don't have to move your furniture as frequently and they also clean between the grout on floors more thoroughly. Also canisters do a better job of cleaning corner to corner. If you don't have allot of money to spend I'd recommend a straight suction canister without a power nozzle and a simple upright where the dirt goes through the fan and doesn't have on board attachments. These are the most mechanically simple type of machines that will last longest and perform best at their intended tasks. Make certain to research both for the most reliable brands. If money isn't a concern I'd go with Sebo for canister and upright.

Indeed. I prefer paying the extra thousands of dollars for my vacuums. Oh and not to mention the terrible filtration of the Kirbys. I prefer to breathe in my dust after ive cleaned my joint....

I don't want to argue about the pros and cons of various vacuums, but I don't think you can complain about price as a negative point for Kirby. If you buy a Kirby new, you're dumb. You can easily get a great condition used Kirby on ebay or Facebook marketplace or any other used items market. I own a Kirby G6 and a Kirby Sentria II and each of them cost me less than $50 because I bought them used. And the most I ever had to refurbish was buying a new brushroll and putting new bags in.

lilyblueharsh fine, you have to buy the product second hand to not be ripped off. Ask yourself why there is such a brisk trade of Kirbys on that market.... They suck. And not in a good way.
