The reference to Tennessee whiskey is because Jack Daniels is made in Lynchburg Tennessee which happens to be a dry county.

I still maintain that Tennessee Whiskey refers to Jack Daniels and not moonshine. And yes I know Lynchburg is the county seat of a dry county and that tastings are permitted at the distillery. And I also know that the song is about the love of a good woman being better than whiskey. Sebs said that he did not drink and he really couldn't understand the connection between Tennessee whiskey and a woman's love. I gave him the short version and left out one tiny word "in" the last sentence. You're welcome.

Ok, Josh Sheffield, I bow to your superior knowledge about "Tennessee Whiskey". I've never had moonshine or Jack Daniels, but I grew up in Tennessee and always thought Jack Daniels was Tennessee whiskey.

Yeah, he looks at her with respect because the woman he's singing to is his wife. It adds so much to the overall feel of the song when you know that. He's literally singing to his wife about how she saved him and how much he loves her. It's beautiful.

Not only is he a great artist but hes also a very caring loving man. About 6 months ago there was a major flooding in Southeastern Kentucky where a lot of his family is .He was there for days helping and donating and cleaning before people really realized who he was. He was there to help, no fanfare, no photographers following him around. Just doing what was right.

Chris Stapleton - "Cold" 2021 CMA Awards I believe you would like it alot. As a general rule he is better live, the "canned" stuff just seems to lack some of that character. My theory is it's a combination of how he responds to an audience and the fact that the production tends to take away some of that grit.

I loved the Timberlake collaborations. But what I found most interesting is his wife's comment about how he wrote the song, Daddy Doesn't Pray Any More. Everyone is so impressed about how he wrote it while waiting for her to get ready to go out and marvels at the speed. But that is not the special part. She points out that he did not write the song as much as he pulled it out of the material floating around his brain. That is what Loretta Lynn and Hank Willaims did and what Dolly Parton and Willy Nelson do. There is a lot of music inside, and all you do is pull out what feels right to you. That is why the whole nonsense about copying and influence is absurd. When immersed in the culture, a lot floats around in your mind, and if you are creative enough, you are not bound to some strict formalism that must be obeyed. Chris has that. So do a few other great young songwriters that most of us never hear of because of how the music industry was structured. But that is changing now, and technology allows more of them a chance to be heard. Channels like this can do a lot of good if some of those guys get more exposure, so I hope to hear a few now and then rather than just rehash some of the responses that everyone does. (Even though that material needs to be covered as well.)

The original song was written by Dean Dillon and Linda Hargrove and recorded and released by David Allan Coe in 1981. The original version is way more country than Chris Stapleton’s remake. George Jones also recorded the song in the 1980’s as well. Chris Stapleton can’t really be defined by any one genre in my opinion, he can do about anything 🤘🏽

I came here just to say this. While Chris has what I consider to be the best version of this song, I’m not even sure he was yet born when the song was actually written or first recorded by David Allan Coe. So while he is absolutely singing it to his beautiful and talented wife, he did not write it for her. Can’t miss with this version though. So amazing!

He has also written hit songs for others...I loved watching your response, since no one who has ever heard Chris sing, is ready for that voice that comes out!!OH, and such a subtle move, but at the 3:12 mark, Chris is so in tune with every part of the song, he slings his hand out to match the beat of the drum.

@@TWOScottRage I got to see Chris with the Jompson Bros in Maryville TN, I think that was about10-12 years ago. I didnt even know what to expect, was in town vacationing, and heard there was going to be a concert later on, so decided to check it out. For 2 hours, I was AMAZED at the talent of EVERYONE in the band....

David Allen Coe originally sang "Tennessee Whiskey", George Jones took it to number 2 on the country charts.

Though George Jones is in my Mount Rushmore of favorite artists, David Allan Coe's original is the one I always listened to. Though, there's no huge difference in the structure between their versions.

Love that you said. ‘Oh, He’s got a Jazz Caster, I get it now.’ 🫶🏻 Exactly! The bridge between jazz, blues and country, just like his voice.

I love what you call yourself. Lol. That was me in my early 20s. I never thought this Latina would get hooked on it for life. I love all genres but country music has a special place in my heart. ❤🤠❤

7:07 - Chris Stapleton did not write this song. It was on the radio when I was a child - 60s/70s, done by George Jones. So this is a cover. However, he is literally singing to his wife - as she is the chick on the other mic singing with him.

My husband never liked country before me. We went on vacation to Tennessee two months ago and i played this while driving through the mountains. Its one of his favorites now and asks me to play it whenever we are in the car, even if its just to the grocery store real quick lol ❤

There are so many people covering this song, & I’ll admit there are some really good covers, but NO ONE will ever do it better than Chris in my opinion. They can try but It just won’t happen! This guy can not only sing, but he has soul, he’s got the whole package & that’s truly a God given gift.

Oh, you have to check out Chris Klafford’s take on this song. It is absolutely life changing! He was on AGT in 2019 but also won Sweden Idol before that. One of the best voices I have heard in a long time! They need to do a duet of this song together.

He's sing to his wife who is singing the harmony. Thats why they're looking directly at each other, each time they sing the chorus.

The great thing about country music is that was born from gospel, blues and western genres. It was the birthplace of rockabilly - where rock and roll and pop began. I just found your channel and i love that you are looking at music that you have historically not cared about. Have fun and let us follow along!

Saw Chris perform twice. Once with Morgane and once without(after the birth of their kids). They had 2 totally different feels. I thoroughly enjoyed both, but absolutely loved Morgane's harmonies in the 1st concert. It felt more intimate and you could feel the love onstage ❤. Hes coming for a 3rd time to Winnipeg. And i think Morgane is touring with him again!!!🎉
