If you want to hear the "guitarist flex" listen to 7emptest from the same album. Adam just takes you into a whole different plane. Tool won a Grammy for this song, "Best Metal Performance". I've been following you for a bit and I love how you marry the emotional reaction the music evokes along with your life's journey. Keep it up man. You are appreciated. Kids will sleep, everything normalizes. Enjoy the ride for now. You'll miss it in 20 years. Believe that.

This song, to me, is a call for unity after it's most likely too late. To stop fixating on what separates us and work together for the betterment of our planet and species. It's a call that goes unanswered, and the second half of the song is the passing of millennia. The ending waves symbolize something new crawling ashore to try again...

You put into words exactly how this song makes me feel. It’s about how desperately we need to fix our world, how we need to better ourselves for future generations, before it’s too late. Climate change is scary stuff man
@TheSkinnychef1620
@TheSkinnychef1620 2 жыл бұрын
This album is wildly prophetic. I have to say, I see little of the "climate change" interpretation of this song. Maynard's got a long established history of using easy to understand language to point to a deeper, internal message. This song, to me, as about the societal collapse that inevitably occurs as a result of the breakdown of the individual's responsibility and self-discipline. If you can't master yourself, fixing the climate is far beyond your capacity to manage.
@heathhooper3699

When I hear the gong crash at about 12:00, I imagine Maynard just eyeballing the @#$@ of me and pointing to the horizon. Go. Go do the thing that I just told you to do. Do better. also, interesting interpretation about the 2nd half of the song. I'll have to thing about that next time I listen to it. . I like to compare Maynard on 'Aenema' to this track, and how the passage of years has changed him from 'let California crack off and drown' to 'sound the alarm.' That's why I take a more optimistic interpretation.

I remember you got really emotional with Lateralus, especially the climax, so my recommendation would definitely be Invincible next. Sebs...first of all, as an OGT it's been so much fun watching your journey with Tool, your reactions showcase what we all love so much about this band. I had a very similar experience with my 1st daughter as you are having now, my wife and I didn't sleep for the first 18 months, we constantanly had to go to doctor visits, the ER, and it was one of the most tramatic experiences of our lives. For now you'll have to embrace the suck, stay positive, be supportive, it's ok to be frustrated with the situation, there are many of us out there that have been through the same. Thank you for making this content, thank you for sharing your life, and thank you for being yourself. Tool will be your best friend for the rest of your life now...you'll also love your APC and Puscifer experiences, Maynard's talent has no bounds. Now go get some rest!

This is my personal favorite off of their newest album. Especially considering all of my own personal struggles that ive experienced, this song relates to them well. PS!! Speaking of SYRINGE...look at the Tool logo for that album, split it between the o and the o and fold it on itself.....syringe. For me, this is a song about descending into the madness or the depths of ourselves and MORE IMPORTANTLY realizing when we are at fault and when we are falling so that we may "sound the dread alarm. Mobilize. Call ourselves to arms and order to fight the darkness that is in all of us. One. Drive. To. Stay. Alive. Its elementary"

My man. I know you said that Pneuma is a big source of your strength for dealing with some of your current difficulties of parenthood and in being the best father you can be for your kids, so allow me to recommend you listen to The Patient off of Lateralus. That song's lyrics will ring very true to you I bet. Definitely for those times when you're at the end of your rope. "I must keep reminding myself..." "If there were no reward to reap, no loving embrace to see me through, this tedious path I've chosen here, I certainly would have walked away by now" Many other people have suggested H. off of Ænima which is absolutely another essential one for your current situation. As someone who discovered TOOL in middle school, learned all their songs by heart in high school and still can't listen to any of them without being absolutely blown away, it means a lot to see someone else getting to experience their mastery for the first time. Keep swinging on that spiral 🌀

Worked great after a bottle, esp the early morning ones. Really enjoying your reactions. Depending on your beliefs, the thing you need will either be there if you look for it, manifest through your energy, or will be waiting for you when you are ready. Many people who hear Tool aren't listening, or open to feeling the experience that we love them for. Next up: 10 000 days Written after Maynard's mother died. His mother was a profoundly religious woman who became severely paralysed after a cerebral aneurysm. Afterwards she became unable to raise Maynard. Maynard became increasingly bitter/angry with god for punishing the - in his eyes -most devoted follower of his teachings. She kept her faith during her entire - paralysed - life, something Maynard didn't understand and resulted in struggles and discussion between the two. Eventually, when she died, he came to accept her faith and made this song to notify God that one of his most devoted followers was on her way and for him to take care of her. - invincible This song is about ones realisation that he is past his prime self and the internal struggle of holding one to ones ego/pride or letting go and moving on finding a new journey/adventure.

Sebs, I've been watching you on this journey and loving every moment. We waited 13 years for this album to finally come. I still find the title track, Fear Inoculum to be the most moving. It's my go to on this album because of how it moves me. Consider putting yourself in the same situation as us and waiting 13 years for new music by a band we can't get enough of, and then listen to the title track with that kind of anticipation. They released the song about a month before the album came out and it still has me on the floor. Just phenomenal. It's got a groove and beauty that stands out on the album. I listened to it with goosebumps the first time I heard it and every time since. Highly recommend reacting to it and follow along with the words. This was released just months before the pandemic and feels prophetic. Cheers man. Hope to see your impression of this suggestion soon.

Invincible from this same album is an absolute must! I've listened to this one and Pnuema more than any other from this album. Talking about the journey through it all and to me this song was meant for the older Tool fans who've followed them all this time and grown together but how were getting older and less Invincible than when we were younger. One thing about Descending, the song is cut EXACTLY into 2 pieces. The first half is the with lyrics and the second half being an instrumental. The song is exactly 13:39 in length. At the 6:49 1/2 minutes Maynard utters the last word 'order', and then the other 6:49 1/2 is the beautiful instrumental. Of course, they did it on purpose, but it's still an interesting fact about the song. It has become my favorite tool song, as it is hard to beat such a masterpiece. When I listen to the second half, I imagine being on a raft heading down, river, but I have no oars, so the currents control the craft. At one point in the song, and if you listen, you'll be able to figure it out, but at one point the raft goes over a waterfall, and then eventually reaches the end of the river which drains into the ocean. It's quite the ride! Rock on! Personally, I would not have told you to listen to the new stuff yet. It seems too early in your journey to take up the broad strokers. Everyone now will be begging for Invincible or 7empest, both from Fear Inoculum, but you should really listen to more of the older tunes. There's plenty to choose from. Then circle back later with these newer pieces. Keep everyone waiting. lol You can't make a bad choice, although some might catch you off guard. Any way you proceed, enjoy the ride! BTW, I see you're checking out Baby Metal, but the better Japanese band to check out is Band-Maid. Check out BAND-MAID / Play (Official Live Video) - KZfaq , but they do have a lot of awesome tunes!! Seriously, put them on your list. They are the bomb!

Maynard once mentioned while being interviewed by Joe Rogan that for people to end the division and come together it would take a cataclysmic event like a meteorite striking and causing significant damage to everyone's daily life. That's how I interpret this song. He's calling out to God or the universe to intervene in some way. The song opens up with waves crashing to the shore. It's like the calm before a meteor strikes and causes significant loss of life. I doubt Maynard actually wants that to occur. The same way that Aenema is not meant to be taken literally.

To me the general theme of this song is about being complacent in your own destiny, allowing things to go bad because you were not diligent enough, you allowed the end of your story to be muddled by your own doing/not doing enough. More specifically I think this song is about the lawsuit Tool was in for YEARS that delayed the making/release of this album (their Epilogue of sorts). The lawsuit could have been avoided if they were more diligent I think. The lawsuit could have potentially ended their careers. "Calling all to arms and order" I think has a general meaning of saying "ok it's time to fight and fix this" but also refers to the actual trial/lawsuits like being called to order by a judge.

It is fascinating for me to hear such a clear and beautiful voice from a man of 57 years who sings so long. His voice sounds so velvety and young and soft at parts where he wants and so rough and strong at other parts. And it is nice to watch someone gets excited for the firt time.

Adam has a floor keyboard arrangement as an attachment to his pedalboard, it looks kind of like the foot pedals on an organ. He does the more mid frequency synth, and I think Danny has something similar and occasionally adds a more bassy synth as well

Looks like I’m a couple months late to the party, but it’s been a pleasure watching you experience this band for the first time. Far too many don’t get it, and maybe aren’t ready for it, but you understand it through and through. This is the best band of our generation.

Invincible off the same album. Best song on the album IMO. In 1993 i went to Lollapalooza in Atlanta. Like the majority of people I was there to see Rage Against the Machine. Some time mid-afternoon 4 guys walk out on stage and start to play. About one minute into them playing I gave my buddy the "holy shit who is this" look. I couldnt get to a record store quick enough the next day. They have been my favorite band ever since, hands down. No other band comes close.

food for thought at 6:10 IMPO: Tool's music has a definite and unique way of guiding your train of thought onto the rails that gently take you to what they want to show you. Everyone who can connect to this music get's something out of it they can use. Hence Tool. I know you haven't gotten to Lost Keys + Rosetta Stoned, as it's a fun mess around track, not a spiritual journey, but there's a line Maynard says "A message to those that choose to hear it, and a warning to those who do not". With that, and to return to the point of this; It seems like everyone these songs touch reach similar conclusions, albeit from different starting points. Like the Theory of Evolution's convergent evolution, as if it were convergence of ideas from people with different pasts, situations, and conditions who's only connection is Tool. TL;DR: I'm a guy on the internet, blah blah, sciency, spiritual stuff Edit: I've already seen this video 4 times as of writing this, but the reaction is the same as mine, and analysis is spot on, so I keep coming back.

You will be leaving this concert a completely different being from the one who walked in. Tool changes you. And this song live will probably melt your face off. Looking forward to the post concert review! And a tip for your wee colicky one; look into fennel oil. I used to work as a medical lab tech and I had many new moms tell me that a wee drop of fennel oil rubbed into the belly area did wonders.

This song I like listening to with the position of its at face value. It’s a last battle cry, a call to arms, this is the song to round up every soldier and to charge into the final battle. We are dying today, but we will die on our feet. It’s the answer to invincible. No we are not unkillable, no we are not everlasting, but it’s these last moments that will become legendary. And the somber aura of understanding these are our last moments.

This song to me is about a call to arms through our collective consciousness to the primal "body" of all of humanity to rise up now and act before it's too late. Not just to rise up off our couches and do something but to rise, ascend in our vibration/energy/spirit; for us to change now and ascend to the next density as our world shifts consciousness and shifts its actual position in the galaxy (check out the Great Year or earth's 26000 year procession) to one of higher electrical energy (Tesla's electric universe theory); the shifting between the age of Pisces and age of Aquarius. The saying goes "we are on this rock flying through space", or floating even. But floating isn't infinite as the movement of our planet is caused by gravity and electrical fields. The gravity of our sun, nearby planets, and each other star continued on to the center of our galaxy, is all pulling us as we fall through this space. Falling isn't flying, we will not float forever. If we want to fly and reach the infinite consciousness then we must wake from this slumber (the saturn frequency), wake from this lower vibrational matrix this world has us in and rise to stay alive, lest this be our swan song and epilogue. This reflects on not only the cosmic transition our planet is going through now, but the associated vibrational and spiritual change, to the current socio and political climate changing as globalism/communism/luciferianism/'cult of El' tries to take over and the world's collective consciousness is beginning to push back and not consent! We may just be in earth's and humanities swan song, "to be or not to be". Will we rise, or descend? The song itself even fights against it's own title as it ascends in tone, energy and speed etc throughout, willing us through all aspects of this song to not descend but to fight against that and ascend.

Hey man, hang in there with the kids. Tru and remember that the lack of sleep makes everything else seem so much worse than it is. . .one day soon you'll wake up after an 8 hour sleep and when you look back on it you'll realize that you can handle it. . .and from them on you'll be stronger all around. . .speaking from experience here. . .went through it with 2 of 3 of my kids. . .second was so much harder, more to coordinate. . .but it gets better, I promise. . Oh and pay attention to your wife. . .make sure she knows your there for her as well as the kids. . .can be hard sometimes but I promise it'll be worth it all soon.

Love your reactions Seb. If you could do a reaction to Schism by Tool that would be awesome. Growing up, whenever I heard this song on the radio that day, I always had an awesome day. It was like Good Karma for me knowing that. Ive been a tool fan ever since and I'm not looking back. I like how you delve deeper into their lyrics. Because it's been one hell of a journey since then. Keep the content coming buddy, I look forward to it.
