Today I’m showing you just how quick and easy putting up some rain gutters is and using a secret ingredient how quick and easily you can grow lots of lettuce right in the side of your house. This is a great use for old rain guttering too. I have something similar that I grow bok choy, lettuce and herbs in.

Hey Jen, There is an item you can buy for the drill bits it is a sleeve that slides over the drill bits and the drive bits to hold the bits still for better straight drilling and screwing. DEWALT Magnetic Drive Guide Set: Magnetic Drive Guide Set, 7 No. of Pieces, 1/4 in Hex Shank Size. This is just one brand makes a GIANT difference when you are in a challenging spot.

I’m thinking of adding a couple to a spot that stays fairly shaded for part of the day and try to do strawberries in them. I guess all I can do is try it and see.

I’ve definitely not been as successful with it until I added those water crystals. Now it doesn’t dry out as quickly. Now I just need to figured out a way to cover them when yelps drop below 30

You absolutely do need good drainage holes. One rainstorm with wind blowing the rain against that side of the house and you could lose your whole crop. I grow my lettuce, chard, and kale in raised beds that easily drain away heavy rain. I’ve leaned the hard way after loosing a few seasons to excessive rain.

I’ll definitely add more if I find it necessary. But since having the other 4 for a few years I’ve had more of an issue with them drying out than too much water. We don’t get a bunch of sideways rainstorms though. I kinda wish we did a little bit. I’m not the best at remembering to water. 😁

that's a great idea and i will build at least one...but i know water will find its way into walls even with the smallest hole so i will use drill tipped screws with a rubber washer like the ones used on metal roofing or at least use drill tipped screws with a dab of silicone...thanks for the great idea, with lettuce at $2 a head this is a great money saver...oh, and also add a drip watering set up
