Silat seems like a complete system of strikes, take downs, and submissions. It also has weapons. Not many martial arts offer all this, and the movements are fluid and quick. Very cool!

Yes. Learnt a different form of silat. We too dont kick higher than the waist, because firstly its dangerous to get a leg grabbed, and secondly, forget soiling clothes, sometimes our clothes dont even allow kicking that high. But other martial arts like muay thai do refine the high kicks really well. Muay Thai is definitely one of the top martial arts in the world imo

Thats why the basic prinsipal from silat its "Langkah" (Steps). Coz the steps is determine how the outcome fight. How to close the gap, avoide the attack, get behind your enemies, from there we able to do how to defense, counter or Attack.

Ahhh, good to see someone who knows that there is also a Tactical aspect to Combat However you are able to do it, Sweeping an opponent's arm across his body lessens his potential to continue to attack, and if you can also cause the opponent's body to rotate, their ability to continue to attack is lessened much more. In fact, taking control of an opponent's balance is one of the Keys to increasing your potential for a successful outcome. Looks good.

Silat in the bottomline is the art of killing, it begins as a self defense mechanism againts wild animal or an invader, in other words the kill or be killed situation so poking eyes, attacking groins, dislocating joints, attacking neck, or any other moves that would be considered "dirty" in any martial arts are legal in Silat (at least outside the official competitive match/tournament of course),...
@boreddemiurge6216
@boreddemiurge6216 2 жыл бұрын
Other arts can fight dirty. It’s not some secret. It’s called combative mindset and dancing around in a sarong isn’t more deadly than countless other arts , especially when you see most silat people don’t spar full contact or know how to actually grapple. You live in a fantasy world.

silat is a martial art that has many types, such as silat gayung, silat cekak, silat sendeng, and many more. silat that is contested in the Commonwealth or Olympics is athletic silat, that silat is only for sport and not as a martial art. Silat for real self-defense is capable of defeating armed enemies of more than 10 people at a time.

Very cool. The similarity between this Silat style and Wing Chun is very interesting. Not sure which influenced which, or if it all. Wing Chun lore never mentions any Indonesian influence, but there was Chinese migration to Indonesia. Neutral stance to side neutral stances, getting to the blindside, controlling the elbow. Simultaneous defense and attack. In my WC lineage we pick up our feet, but other lineages twist in place. This Silat master does both...in bare feet. Perhaps in ancient cities and jungles it was possible to twist in place on dusty roads, paths, and this is why it worked. Wearing grippy running shoes, if you twist, you snap your ankles or knees...depending on the surface you are standing on. This master is very skilled...his students are very lucky. Bow of respect. :)

I'm not saying that Silat is the greatest from other form of martial arts (it depends on the practitioner), but Silat have more complete system in term of attack, defense, takedown, grappling, joints, etc and even weapons of choice. This perfection maybe obtained thanks to influence by Chinese, Indian & Arabs immigrants in the regions hundred years ago by bringing their own martial arts style and assimilated with local martial arts which eventually became modern Silat today.

@@brucecharlie8613 I fully agree. After studying this for the last 8 years,the movement and transition is so fast the 8 min demonstration would have turned into a 45 second fight that would have left joints dislocated or broken. Bones broken. And possibility of death. He is only doing a demonstration of his native Martial Arts. He is a master in THIS. When Indonesia was being taken over by the Japanese or Dutch or French forces, the common farmer was deadlier then the most advanced fighters the enemies had in service. I've studied Aikido, Ju-Jitsu, BJJ, and wrestled in school with 4 gold medals and one season with no losses in heavyweight. I would say that Siliat is by far the quickest, and once trained, easiest self defense arts in the world. Don't let a demonstration class make you think it will not work. As a LEO and ASEO I will testify it works. I can get a non compliant individual or individuals into custody with less use of force and without needing the stuff on my belt. That is a win for everyone involved.

For people who don't yet know if you want to "think in Silat" you need to learn how to put a man on the triangle. When you understand the triangle all the reference points, foot traps and sweeps &, striking can start synergizing. It takes a lot of practice but these old combatives systems if done right will end fights super fast. Systems such as this were developed for people to use in pitched melee battles by guys who skill & understanding was proven by fighting and winning in battles. In pitched melee 2 groups collide, at first you have only seconds with each opponent as everybody had been rushing over to the enemy and it takes a moment to slow down; a strike or parry or, blocking shield and then either 1/both falls or 1/both keep running and that other is then forgotten as the next opponent comes into range. The time it takes to merge opposition forces when battle is joined is supremely dangerous because it's a successive blur, like the quick random path for a ball on a really good pinball machine but each encounter carries the intention of killing. Awareness, speed and, purposeful violence- That is as crazy as it gets, once the forces have been joined the pace should mellow as everyone takes stock of the current state a now thinking returns and tactics improvised to serve any planned strategies but in the joining period combatives skills are the key. Most violent encounters as an adult will be circumstantial; an attempted robbery, an ambush at a bar, an argument with a stranger that quickly turns physical- whatever it is it you didn't pre-plan on violent action combatives skills are what these situations call for.......... ..... ....... and remember guys like Musashi, he fought 60 duels and retired undefeated: these skills can be honed.

Miyamoto Musashi was a legendary warrior. Probably the deadliest documented swordsman. I'm so intrigued by the fact he finished many of his opponents with a Bokken

@@onepunchflan3071 it has something to do with the pragmatic mindset that real swordsmen isn't only limited to swords and can wield almost anything ordinary like it's the real sword. It's tiring to explain it because English is just my second language so just read and reread his book.

Many of these hand grabs could be neutralized by turning your wrist into the thumb and index fingers of the one doing the grabbing. A quick attempt to escape at the weakest point of a hold is worth a try if needed.

This is very good instruction, it's second level striking. Just wondering if they teach the star first in this art. Or if they teach the sun and moon and your video is just on the star. I'd like to see more of this style I see bits of the ancient art mixed in the videos online. And wish there was a section that just delt with it instead of having to sift through everything.
