Finaly someone who is not talking ONLY about "the streets" wearing army stuff and trying to look as tough as he can, but someone who speaks in a great way about true martial art values like honor, humbleness, respect, dignity and peace. Absolutely a great and humble teacher. I trained once with him but I love to work with him again one day. Respect!

The great thing about martial art is that it makes you a wolf among sheep... Well mannered middle aged man, doesn't swear, not overly aggressive, very humble but when push comes shove you blink and its over. If Mr Mornie were to walk by you in the street, you wouldnt think twice of him being a threat EVER and I guess that is the real power of martial arts. Leave your egos at home

I found this guy by accident. Many speak highly of different martial arts, and especially Juijitsu and Krav Maga. Every time that I watch a video about Krav Maga, I see Silat in action. This guy I could watch for hours. He talks a lot, which is fine. If I could only have this guy around here as my instructor. The footwork, the instruction, and the history. This guy is Solid! There are a lot of videos comparing different styles of Martial Arts, and many compared inside a ring or octagon. In a cage fight, there are rules. If you train for a cage fight, then you’re going to fight like a cage fighter. I’m a real life or death situation, where rules don’t apply, you fight like you train. This guy is awesome, and I would Love to train under him. He has my upmost respect.

I learned more about the art from hearing stories than just seeing physical display of movements. My favorite part is when he said that front line fighters are committed to wide "one hit kill" swings because if they slowed down they would only endanger themselves. Also interesting is how fighters would rather redirect enemies so their friends could finish them rather than racking up body counts for themselves. Great story, a good insight into the art.

we also have an old culture with so many kingdoms or tribes without king in nusantara and always involving war and the land here lack open field or space. they often fight at jungle, paddy field, at a bridge. unlike those wars you see in movies in open space where you can gather thousand people in an open area, here they were fighting in scattering groups. that's why they need to cooperates well with their teammate. they need to find en efficient way to fight in groups. There's no point in bragging your skill for one on one battle since almost all fight will eventually end with a war at that time. at least, a war between village or school. in my tribe, if it's about a personal matter from same groups (internal quarrel), there was a kind of fight inside a "kain sarung" (sarong). You put the two mans who want to fight inside that sarong and let them fight to death using "kerambit" or "karih" or may be "pedang" in that tight space. What happen inside that sarong ends there. No one from outside should interfere and what happens inside that sarong has nothing to do with anything outside after the fight. No vengeance. You have the free to use any trick inside that sarong and you should know that it's about kill or be killed fight inside. thought it's so rare for this kind of fight to be happen since most Pandeka have a great level of wisdom. The important rule for Pandeka as a personal, to never seek for enemy, yet will never run away if they find one. but it will be different if it's not a personal issue anymore, like a war between village, tribe or kingdom.

Please check this value : 1.27 one strong attack move, to starting the fight.. opponent will down/loose, or continue to next fighting.. 2.37 the silat player, usually wear some "little clothe" at their head.. the poin is, when we challenge other player, no killing/ murdering act.!!! Just slap or punch or kicking this "little clothe" in head, so the player get loose.. silat fighting usually seen by others body.. if we killing our opponent, the audiences will capture us, punish us or kill us too.!!! Thats honourable poin of martial.!!! Pure martial is for surviving purpose, not attacking or hurting others.!!!! This mean, real art.. Silat is from Arabic poem, "silaturahim".. it mean, good relationship, good families, good friends, good neighborhood.. way tokeep each others.. Historis of silat, come from past years ago, when Indonesia still in kingdoms eras.. much kingdom killing each others for glory, gold, or religion.. with silat of course.. so much body dying.. When Islam slowly come to Indonesian , silat being changing for relationship way.. to protect families, neighbor, friends, brother sister, poor body.. to peace way..

Waaaay back in the VN era, I was exposed to/trained for / and experienced what my instructors called "The World of The 4 R's" : that is the combat world of "NO Rings, , NO Rounds, NO Referees, and NO Rules" After cartwheeling me over a small wall with a kick to the side of my head, my chief instructor remarked that I should never forget that in a world of No Rules, there could of course be No Cheating :) thus explaining the sudden, unexpected attack while we were talking. Did his manner of instruction work? Well, I'm still here. The simple combat options of Live or Die reflect the mindset of a true 'warrior' and make the efficacy of a given set of combat techniques, far more easily determined. I applaud this instructor.
