Join me today as I show you several ways to stake up a plant! I get into staking up a pothos at about 6:09. The other methods I discuss are some very cool tricks and methods to stake up ANY plant! They are VERY good ideas as you decide how you'd like to stake your plant. At the end of the video, I show you my GIANT pothos...I took cuttings from this one as well as my other large pothos. Watch...this is some good plant eye candy!

Another attachment option is the Velcro wrap tape. You can get it in rolls and cut it to whatever lengths you want. Easy to remove, also easy to add and extra stem under and existing wrap.

I love how straight forward you keep it!! You just clip those pothos vines, and stick 'em right in the new pot, I love it!! I also love that you like to use wooden stakes/poles and not always moss poles! So much easier to source, and less expensive! Thanks so much for this video, I keep watching it as a point of reference, as I just repotted a bunch of pothos babies and one philodendron brasil into a "jungle pot" with 3 massive branches to train them up! I started doubting myself, and wondering if I messed up with not doing moss, and then I watched this again and BAM confidence restored! Thanks again :)

I have so many questions: Does it ever outgrow the stake? As it ages is there ever a need or reason to remove the plant from stake? How do you extend or heighten the stake? Sorry so much at once 😱
@wmd40
@wmd40 3 жыл бұрын
You have to trim them, and you use the trimmings to get more plants. You can add more moss poles on top of each other. Most that you buy at the store can just be linked together by pushing another pole into the top of the original pole. You could also put multiple poles in one pot to make it wider with more support

Hi Ink Pen! Thanks for watching my videos! Sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you... sometimes I greet behind on that 🥰💚🌱🍀🌿🪴 Anyway, yes they out grow the stakes. I fasten the vines up and then down the pole. Then, when you’re officially out of room, propagate it! After that, the good news is that is usually around the same time you can up-pot! It’s important to up-pot plants that are overly root bound so that they have your soil and enough soil to thrive. Something to keep in mind! Best wishes on this plants fun. I’m going yo do a video soon where I show you what I have done that works and how to do it.

@plantluxxe
@plantluxxe 2 ай бұрын
Hello! Either one is great… it depends on what you want to do… Moss poles are like an extension of the pot. A wooden pole is like a tree the plant can attach to and grow up… what look are you going for? Moss poles make it easier to grow large leaves faster. Wooden poles provide more support to drape /attach/tie on several vines. I have both and love them the same. With a moss pole, you need to water the pole regularly (weekly) to get the desired growth result. Thank you for watching and commenting …and thank you for your patience awaiting my response. I’ve been moving and life has been crazy 🤪 🪴💚🌿

I bought the Giant Pothos starts on Ebay but the stems that came have small leaves as you say. I hope I will live long enough to get the large leaves. wondering how long it will take? they just arrived last week. I think there were 5 or 6 leaves on each stem Each leaf had aerial roots. I circled both stems around the pot. Maybe I should have sent both up the pole right off?? Hummm What to do? since it has just been one week today do you think I should just pull the aerial roots back out of the potting mix and pole them? I can do this in the morning. Thanks!!

@@plantluxxe LOL Been looking for them and can not find them to buy. One guy on Ebay wanted $44.44 for two leaves. And he looked to be a really scary person. These were supposed to be larger leaves. When they came small I asked about it and they said the lager leaves do not ship well?? The leaves I got are even smaller than my pothos I already have. Maybe my older pothos plants now growing up trellises will continue to get larger leaves.My Brazil is doing this and so is my Red Emerald and Cordatum. Propping new top cuttings from Ref Emerald now to plant back at her base. I have seen in a matter of a year staking the plants versus letting them hang does make for larger leaves.

@@SickBoiRENegade OH My WOw. Well I want the larger leaves like Christa has or at least leaves with the potential of getting that large in my lifetime. LOL I am already 71. I do not have another 20 years . Have you ever googled Giant pothos? The ones I just bought that were supposed to be Giant pothos leaves were 2 1/2 to 3 inches long. I already have some 4 1/2 to 5 inches long.. Maybe I just need to wait longer and keep them growing up?? My question is do all pothos get giant if left to grow tall enough or is "Giant Pothos" a different variety? I have a Hawaiian Pothos that looks like a Golden but does have larger leaves and a really aggressive grower. I also have some Marble Queen that has some larger leaves. Talk about confusion on my end. Thank you for offering. So sweet of you.

@@shadesofidaho the largest leaves on mine are only about 6in maybe 1or2 7in so not much bigger than urs. I'll keep my eye out for something larger for u at a decent price. Give those larger leaves u have tons of light from above and stake em up. The higher they grow towards bright light the larger the leaves will grow. Ive seen pics of pothos in the wild with elephant ear sized leaves. Nothing we could replicate in the house but it's amazing what nature can do with optimal conditions. Sorry I don't have something larger I could send u.i had someone send me a wish list plant out of the blue for free and I was so moved I wanted to spread the plant love! Hi Johnathan, I get my posts at Lowes. SometimesI cut the pole in half…sometimes 3/4…. I use a staple gun to affix staples (I don’t staple them all the way in) … then I use bread ties or floral ties to put the vines on the pole. I show you how to do that in this video: It’s my favorite way to stake up plants. Right now, I’m creating a new type of pole and video for viewers on how to make this new pole idea I came up with recently …. Coming soon! I’m experimenting between a moss pole and a wooden stake with staples…it will be really great to see how this works with arial roots! Stay tuned!

I don’t like rolling mine around poles unless it’s after I’ve already put that first layer straight up the pole. I have, however, done only the roll around the pole thing and it works just fine. I just prefer doing it differently now😂🪴💚❤️

Oh I see! Either way it’s going to be a great effect, but I think when you get the Arial roots to make contact directly with the pole, the leaves will grow larger because they secure to the pole. 💚🪴

Hi Jason! Thank you for commenting and viewing. I make my own soil now… when first started researching the benefits of soil amendments and chemistry, it piqued my interest and I became enamored with experimenting with different soil amendments for certain species and cultivars to test my hypothesis on overall plant health and growth. In order words, while I haven’t had any problems with any type or brand of soil, I do not advocate any particular brand. . In past videos I mentioned what was easy and worked for me… but since then, I make my own soil, I have linked my aroid recipe below, check it out if you’re interested…..I think it’s important for each person to discover what works for them based on the species of plant and numerous other considerations like : lighting, watering regiment, temperature, humidity, etc… Thanks for commenting and watching 💕🪴🌿 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a7Kcn5iZtbPLeHU.html

Since you don’t put the starts in water to grow roots, what is your success rate using your method. Another Q, can the long vines be wrapped around the pole?
@plantluxxe
@plantluxxe 2 жыл бұрын
HI Teri, The success rate is good for pothos, I didn't lose any with that bunch. However, I do notice that if you pot directly in soil and slack on watering, there is about a 15% loss. These days, I prefer to use water, then place in sphagnum moss, then soil. This is how I create plants for the shop too.... However, for personal use, sometimes I still put cuttings directly in soil. Vines- wrapping them around the pole is not ideal. It is better to use something to fasten then to the pole so that they go straight up the pole. What happens when you wrap them around is that when the plant grows you have less control of the aesthetic as well as the weight and direction of the growth. Thank for watching!

Hey there! I love your videos. I like your aesthetic; it feels like you have a more refined design approach. I enjoy following you. I don't want you to think of this as criticism, just something to consider: if you mention you missed some episodes I'll notice, but if you don't mention it I won't. Apologizing for missing a few uploads gives the idea that you're having trouble being consistent but the plant community specifically isn't very consistent in general. You have a life and I think that's reasonable for us as viewers to understand. It might feel like you should mention that you missed some/that you might want to apologize, but I think it'd be just as good a video if you hadn't and I wouldn't think about consistency. I hope you don't think I'm trying to say you've done something wrong. I'm on the spectrum and come off as harsh in language, but I'm trying to explain that long term for your channel to grow it might be good to ignore any gaps beyond really severe ones, and even at those all you really need to say is "hey guys it's been a bit! How are you? Let me know in the comments" or something that can generate a feeling of community. I'm just saying this because I appreciate your channel and if I've overstepped I apologize.

Hi Pit Dawg! That plant is now a monster giant. It’s taller than I am. I keep it in my classroom at school. It’s a beauty. I haven’t posted the most recent version of her but if you click on my office plants videos you’ll see how she turned out. When you put cuttings in soil though it’s important to have excellent humidity, soil temperature, amazing lighting, and no pests. South facing window. Not letting soil dry out. All key to the grow. Sphagnum is the easiest grow medium for sure. But can get expensive if ur growing many plants. Lecca is really fun too. You should try that one sometime. I haven’t done any vids on lecca though. But I really love it. Thank you for watching and commenting! 💚🪴

Hi Kali, That’s an interesting perspective, and I hadn’t thought of it like that before. My understanding of “Hey Guys“ is that it’s a universal gender colloquialism, representing all genders. @@plantluxxe I do apologize, as it's really your channel and I have no place telling you how to refer to your community. I mention it, and have been trying to find ways to bring up the topic with out coming across dramatic or righteous however it's incredible to me how the intro of "hey guys" is the intro for nearly every video I watch. The oddest is when they are female artists with a significant amount of female viewers. Why do we as women deny even each other? "Guys" is mistakenly used generically by SO many but at its root, it's yet another reinforcement of man being the center of all norms and women being unaddressed, unheard, and unseen (unless of course in an objectified context). This video is short and really puts it well. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p510ldZmmtavgn0.html Let em as this, if you said it the other way, would it be generic or offensive? Overall, I shouldn't be telling you how to address your viewers, but I do invite you to consider the power of inclusivity and more importantly, the power of our words. For me, I didnt see it until I saw it, but once I saw it, I cannot hear that without thinking,,,"Im not a guy so are you addressing me too or just them?" It just has a different tone than something more inclusive. It's so hard to change habits, especially words. Maybe it sounds diff but maybe something like "Hey folks, Hey humans, hey everyone, hey plant people... hey plant lovin peeps" may just speak to the entire community in a different way. Those who dont care wont notice but those who do, will REALLY appreciate it.
