FYI- Ryobi introduced a 12Ah and 9Ah battery just after this cooler was launched. I've been able to confirm that they both fit inside and the lid to the battery compartment closes.

@@PKDN215 Yup. 9Ah 's been around , but now discontinued. The two new releases are 8Ah & 12Ah. I read that the 9Ah was made at the same plant as a parent co.'s other-brand 9Ah , which had a rep for catching fire ( tho i've NOT heard of any Ryobi 9Ah doing so ) . My guess is a production-line / efficiency issue , since the offered choices are now multiples , i.e. : install 1 or 2 or 3 "modules" of the 21700's to yield 4Ah , 8Ah , or 12Ah PAKs. 👀🔎 watch for Clearances of those 9Ah's !

Very comprehensive review. I just bought a 48 quart Newair for $299 shipped free and it has two compartments and they can both be a fridge or a freezer compartment or one of each and you pick which is which. The controls look just like the Ryobi except that there are representations and controls for each side of the cooler. All the fonts and symbols are identical. It has eco and max cooling. Each zone can be set down to -4 F. It has three different cutoff voltages that you can choose from, when using the cig socket cord, to keep from running your car battery down 'til it wont start the car. The 12 volt cord and the power brick look identical. I think the dimensions are very similar, as well, except that the Ryobi has so much space dedicated to the battery compartment. The underside of the lid and the drain plug seem to be the same, as well. The lid can be reversed to open in the opposite direction for convenience. It has a LED light in each compartment and a cutting board that fastens inside the lid for storage and fits in a depression on the top to keep it from sliding around while you use it. It has wheels and a slide out handle that gets you far enough away from the cooler to keep it from running into your heels while you're rolling it. It has a very tight fitting wire basket for each compartment. It fits nice and protects the walls from denting. They can be removed, taken into the store or into your house, filled and you know that the food in them will fit into the cooler. You aren't standing there with the lid open letting the cold out while you try to fit your stuff into the cooler. I know that three 2 liter bottles can stand on end in the larger compartment and I think 4 could be made to fit. The Ryobi didn't seem tall enough to do a 2 liter. An optional battery is available for about $250 and if you have it, you can also connect a 100 watt solar panel to the cooler to power the 60 Watt, LG brand compressor and keep the battery charged for overnight use. It must have a charge controller built into the cooler. Two 9 ah Ryobi batteries will give you about 650 wh of power and cost $259. A Dr. Prepare LiFePO4 battery will cost $380, comes with a 100 watt MPPT solar charger controller, built in, along with a cig socket, two USB-A sockets, a USB-C socket, a battery level meter, and will give you 1280 wh of power, and that's all running on 12 volts so there are no conversion loses. I have a crap load of Ryobi tools and batteries and when I first saw their cooler I was pretty excited, but after a little research I found that I could get so much more for just a little more dough and I bought the Newair instead, without a second thought.

Wheels on coolers are one of the best add-ons ever. In my work days, I had several wheeled coolers that got used daily to deliver wastewater samples to our lab. We had our own ice machine to make sure samples stayed cold to a 40 F. These electric coolers was always out of our price range. Looks like the wheels are a little flimsy. Ryobi cooler is a little expensive, but coolers that will hold ice for several days are expensive too. Great demo

Be nice if it had bluetooth as well. You could easily run this off a seperate solar charger. 40 volt would be nice as well. It's cheaper to purchase a separate solar battery system to run this. This isn’t a “cooler”. This is an actual refrigerator with a compressor that also takes Ryobi batteries. Comparable products of any quality are about $499-899. This is meant for someone who doesn’t want to deal with ice every day at the job-site, or camping, exc and actually wants their drinks or food ice cold. Another option would be kept in a vehicle that has an auxiliary battery system and running 24/7, which is what I do.

You can hear it kick on, but it's a low background noise. Pretty minimal noise I'd say.

They should add a chime to let people know it's still open after a set amount of time, only because some people are extremely lazy and will open it and will never close it.

Ryobi makes great tools and products, they just can’t get their batteries right. Every time I order a tool with battery and charger I get a bad battery. Also, refrigerated temperature should be at 40 degrees.

Sorry, but that thing is horribly over-priced for what it offers. Other products on the market, not tied to a specific battery solution, offer the same features at a better price point.

Not good for the inside of a hot vehicle like suv or hatchback. The outer temperature would reduce efficiency and the compressor would make outer temperature warmer.

I'm very happy with the way this performs, but still a little surprised at the price. It does a great job. I just checked the Makita 21qt cooler and it's $699 (tool only). The only difference is that it's a warmer too. Just thought it was interesting to see some other prices.

@@MarkThomasBuilderthis is a refrigerator. It has a compressor. The proof is the temp range. Those thermo electric coolers will get you 40 degrees below ambient on a great day. The question is who makes the compressor? That's important.

93Wh required to melt 1kG of water, ie stored cooling! An 18V 4Ah battery is 72 Wh. Someone check my math. Phase change paks like Yeti 4 lb melt temp is below 0C. Much cheaper than Battery.
