It’s true that using these mould removers frequently can lead to the silicon wearing off sooner, though reapplication is really not difficult. All types of sink mounting and tap placements come with their own pros and cons. My suggestion is to have some sort of after-use or daily cleaning routine e.g. have a nice looking hand towel hanging near the sink which can be used to wipe the wet surfaces dry after each use, use a sponge to clean the inner undersides of an undermount sink every evening after cleaning countertop surfaces etc. As for sinks, I have a granite one (for aesthetic reasons) but my experience is that it certainly takes some effort to keep it looking black and avoid white “haze” from forming. 😂 As for the service yard carpentry, I guess the question to consider might be where the items currently occupying it would be housed instead without the carpentry, and how would this change the look and functionality of the service yard. I am SO glad I watched this video before we got started on our renovation! The tap thing - our sink is undermount but has a hole in it for the tap (like what you show at 3:04) where the tap hole is still quite close to the sink bowls (only about 1cm between edge of tap hole to edge of sink bowl). So even though our tap sits on top of the quartz (just like yours but much closer to the sink bowls) rather than on top of the sink itself (like song cho), we were able to position the tap knob facing forward rather than facing the side (like yours) such that when we use the tap the water from our hands drips into the sink rather than onto the quartz. If not for this video I'd never have thought about the orientation of the tap! Thank you!!

A good stainless steel sink has anti-scratch feature, like the one I have been using for nearly 7 years and still in pristine condition

For water dripping onto the tap and countertop, can consider putting a towel or absorbent pad around the base of the tap to absorb any dripping water.

I also have an undermount sink but my faucet handle is in front, not at the right side. So there is no water drip on the countertop. See Aurasinks.

Haha this is so timely as I was looking for kitchen sink and deciding between top mount or under mount. Likely going for Blanco granite sink and have it top mount..

Refrain from using mold remover products. It is simply a strong acid or alkaline which removes the dirts but it also softens/weaken the silicone/caulk. Try to improve ventilation in the toilet via installation of exhaust fan. Spray vinegar on the silicone and wipe it down. Never use scouring pad or steel wool on stainless steel sink and taps. Never apply chlorine bleach on stainless steel products. Use nylon brush or coconut to brush the surface of stainless steel kitchen sink/faucet/tap with vinegar and a little dish washing detergent.

You should have considered flush mount sinks, which integrate the best of both top mount and under mount sinks. Flush mount sinks sit flushed with the countertop, so you won’t have issues of mould growing between the countertop and your under mount sink.
