This song was written by Ricky Vela one of Selena's band members (the guy wearing glasses playing keyboard) he wrote this song about Selena's older sister Suzette. I think what made her so special is that she could actually sing. There are a lot of female Tejano singers that sound good but not on this level. I think it also had to do with her loving soul music as well

Wow, i even remember some interview/behind the scenes of this video before she released this single back in like '94, shortly before she died, this brings back memories in a crazy way, also crazy how she was about to cross over big time and then with her death ironically she became a legend. I can’t really listen to her music anymore. It brings me too much pain. I was such a huge fan when she was alive and I was in the car when the radio announced her death. My aunt was driving and almost crashed the car. We couldn’t believe it and just couldn’t stop crying. 😞 I miss Selena every day and wish she was still with us.

I haven't watched this video in years! Selena was very versatile. She could sing any type of music in both Eng and Span. I was listening to her disco medley and then this song...yes is the same Selena. What a loss.

Guess what though? Selena was an angel in real life too! She always stayed behind to sign autographs and take pictures with fans. She told young kids to stay in school and work hard. She was surprisingly conservative and had family values. She wanted her own family one day and never got to have that. She was 23 about to 24 when she was killed. “Dreamin if you” was released in her honor and I remember hearing it broadcast on the radio the day of or day after she was killed in her honor. Now I can’t listen to dreamin of you without starting to cry. She has a wonderful statue in her honor in Corpus Christi called “over look of the flower” too it’s really cool google it. Many people speculate that Selena was on course to be as big as Micheal Jackson in terms of stardom. She was already huge in Mexico and the Tejano scene in the states. She was just starting her English crossover in the US. The US loved her as well, and she was taken before her career could really skyrocket. She would have easily eclipsed all current female artists in terms of pure vocal ability and stage presence. She was a once in a lifetime lightning in a bottle that was ended by a useless woman in a fit of jealousy and greed.

Just 👌🏽 I also recommend the new series about Selena on Netflix produced by her sister Suzette. It does into much more detail about her life and the details of what led to the unfortunate tragedy that still infuriates me. But it's very good. Christian Serrato's did a beautiful job portraying her. She really captures her essence.

It was just a song to a movie she played a bit part in called Don Juan starting Johnny Depp and the Legendary actor whom I can't recall the name right now. It wasn't based on anything she had gone through, not to my knowledge anyway. Notice her family band Los Dinos in the background playing on instruments. Her husband is into Rock music now which he was always in but never persued it til after SELENA passed awsy. I'm sure Chris would give it all up just to have her back.
