We covered the looping right hand before. Here is one against the straight right.
Using judo in a self defense setting is all about getting close without getting hit. Of course, this does not exist in a vacuum. There is a lot of context to consider.
here is the video against the looping right
• Self-defense using Judo
Defending a straight right. The last thing you want to do when the person is going to throw hands is reach into the range of their punches. Parry their hand, and reach with your right hand. Notice how my head is on the outside of their arm.
Parry, collar tie, connect your hands. From here, you're in position to grapple. Go for your throws. Maybe o uchi and o soto. Being able to parry and connect the hands is an important skill that is developed naturally during grip fighting.bit.ly/ShintaroJudoinstruction

I'm a boxer, so my question is. How would you defend against an experienced boxer. We're they train for speed, power, and most commonly combos. A good boxer would be able to probably strike faster than you can predict. If they land a solid hit. I guarantee there will be another strike. The jab is one of the fastest punches a boxer can use. They won't be slow with that punch. An experienced boxer know how to throw a VERY fast jab. If you go down low to try to sweep the leg. You might get connected with an uppercut. If you try to swing to the left, you might get a left jab or hook. Alot of boxers read the situation before going in. I personally have always been a defensive boxer. I wait for them to throw the first move. Then I act.

Against an experienced boxer, will just shoot in for the legs and try to take it down to the ground. You are right.
@ivanstayner8818
@ivanstayner8818 4 жыл бұрын
@@Shigashi84 That makes sense. Trying to take the fight to the ground is were judo excels at. Trapping and grappling to subdue the opponent.
@ivanstayner8818
@ivanstayner8818 4 жыл бұрын
@@Shigashi84 So you would you just wait for an easier punch to counter. Or would you just immediately go in for the legs. Like I said the jab would be pretty hard to catch. A boxer would jab and then comeback in the defensive stance quickly. So I would assume you would try to close distance quickly. Get close to the boxer and way from his punches were he can hit you with all his power.

De Ashi Harai you sweep the back or the side of the feet while Sasae you go like Hiza Guruma but it go for front feet of your opponent.
@mirzad19882
@mirzad19882 4 жыл бұрын
De ashi Barai is when your opponent leaves the weight off the front foot allowing you to sweep it. Let's say they are walking backwards and their weight shifts from the front to the back, their front leg now has no weight in which you can then execute the sweep. For sasae, think of a lateral drop in wrestling. Your opponent takes a step forward with the back leg coming forward into you but they trip over your foot blocking their ankle/lower shin causing them to fall into the direction where they are going. Think of them walking forward at a very narrow posture and the trail leg gets blocked by a brick or an obstacle.

This seems slick but probably won’t work unless you are also a boxer. It isn’t easy to slip or parry a punch, even if you are a grappler used to having hands come at you to grab you. Better would be to do a clinch drill periodically. Get a mouth guard, give your judo buddy boxing gloves, and practice getting a clinch while he tries to punch you. I did it in the Army, and it ain’t easy. Also, being punched in the face even while covering my head with my arms made my jaw sore and gave me a headache.
@tjl4688

Arms in front of the face, blast in as he commits to a punch. Classic Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, and from there you have the clinch and can do all the judo in the world.
@stevanb9639
@stevanb9639 3 жыл бұрын
Judo is very effective against a punch throwing attacker. Even when executing self-defending opposing one with a knife as a deadly stabbing or slashing weapon. Since being punched, is being attacked. (to punch someone is attacking them). Punches, hand and even elbow strikes and attempted head butting is weakened or subdued if the receiving defender closes spaces and even glues themself to the attacker. It is also effective no matter how large or massive the attacker is, should the self-defender be very much smaller in stature. The subsequent rapid (and even slower, purposeful) body lever, levering, throwing, locks, joint bending, trips, and all sorts of whole-body movements can be extremely harmful to the attacker. When judo is imparted to receive an attack as a response, the attacker is faced with a very bad dilemma should they continue to try to attack more. The self-defender never needs to even throw a blow in return. When executed very purposeful in self-defending, it can become a bad mess for the attacker.
@Shigashi84

Self-defense can get pretty complicated for sure. having a good background in both striking and grappling greatly help.
@stevanb9639
@stevanb9639 2 жыл бұрын
@@Shigashi84 Surely, very very important. Very much agree. I suggest anyone to watch professional boxing. To understand how punching is thrown (executed). Especially (watch and study) great Championship bouts in Boxing History. Notice, for those working to understand this unfortunately necessary stuff, (to understand yourself in self-defending), you will see that's why in boxing, the Referee has to break up the boxers when they start to hold, begin holding too much, grab, 'tie-up", or hold at all. Boxing is not grappling or wrestling (at all). Boxing is pitched battle regulated by strict rules of engaging in sanctioned, controlled combat by the use of ONLY the fists. Judo in self-defending is a prevention action. It is the act of preventing an attacker from harming you, and, preventing the attacker from continuing to harm you further. Judo (and Aikido) stymies and thwarts attackers who will throw and launch blows by punching or kicking; or even the swinging a weapon, as a club or, a slashing or stabbing weapon like a knife (In this case Judo, or Aikido, will become the limb or joint-breaking defending, whereas not lethal, response). The receiving countering Judo will also put a wicked hurt on the attacker while defending. So, Judo (and Aikido) is not teaching "fighting" as an act of attacking someone. It is teaching self-defending (Not offending attacking).
