At the beginning of the video I thought "This is gonna be a boring one" but let me tell you that at the end I just said I hope I had some memories as meaningful as you do. That's not just about a car but all the passion, effort and time with your loved ones. You can get it up and running so you can go with your wife and relive those precious moments.

Happy for you… my late brother left me an 87 grand national.. I tried 19 years ago to restore it… but I was 19 and knew nothing… didn’t even know cars used oil to run… and there I was with most guys dream car… it sat for 15 years and then I was challenged…here I am.. now wrenching myself thanks to KZfaqrs like yourself. Thank you for the story. Thank you for all of the videos. I know you’ll finish your car with love and even more memories. Thanks bro..

@@organiccold I also watch Alex’s channel… tbh.. it was vice grip garages video that coincidentally sparked my light again on my brothers car. I’ve always made sure it was garage kept until I bought my own house, and now it just feels right ya know… do I know exactly what I’m doing? No… but… I have determination and KZfaq to help. I know it’s not the same sort of story as Jarrods.. but I know what it means to never want to part with a car because it’s way more than just a car… I got it running and recently upgraded the brake system to a hydraulic system. Our mom and sisters definitely love seeing the car running again… thank all you guys… more than you know i am eternally grateful for all of your videos and the comments as well!

Jared, I’m a long time supporter of you. Even when this wasn’t 100% your channel. Don’t feel bad about not having any “wrenching” in the videos. This is the questionable garage, not wrench every day. We love this channel because we love you Jared. We love hearing why certain cars mean so much to you and story videos are sometimes better than full on wrenching videos. Anyways I guess what I am trying to get at is that you have a really solid fan base that enjoys anything and everything you do, so don’t fear putting out a video when there is little to no “work” done on camera. It’s nice to have the back story and depth of a project past just horsepower and numbers for a machine. ❤

Sometimes when people say “things don’t matter,” I don’t think they understand what circumstances might be involved. I have a pocket knife from my grandfather, a Jeep that I restored with the few precious spare minutes I had at that time. I have a chisel that my father forged in high school. Things? Maybe. But they become artifacts of my family and the memories with them are priceless. Good luck on this build. I don’t think you’ll regret a thing.

It doesn't matter what anybody else thinks, and it doesn't matter what the trends are, the heart car is your soul on the road. Your preaching to the choir my friend. We all understand. My “heart car” is an S13. I’ve owned three of them, but “the one” was a car I saved up and worked on for years. By the end it was a street legal track car. 380whp gutted, externally gated monster. It wasn’t very pretty, but it was sorted, and fast and so much fun. But I had so much blood and sweat and years of dreaming about what it would be like when it was done so when it finally was, it meant the world to me. I sold it when our track closed in 2005. But I wish I still had it. I loved that car so much.

Good video, Jared. I remember when you were working on my 1994 Supra, I would get to see and hear a bit about the silver MKIII you had. I recognize the feelings you and your wife have for that car because I and my son have the same feelings about my MKIV. Everyone in my family knows that it will always be my "favorite" and it will go to my son when I am no longer able to drive it. I can relate to you SO HARD on this. I've followed you since the channel started (after Tavarish's earlier few videos). I recall you momentarily talking of this car as it sat in the background every now and then. Thanks for giving us the full full story of this car! I know EXACTLY what you mean. That one car where you've spent so much time in. My 2013 Audi A3 hatchback which I've owned for 10 years now, is the car where I took my now wife to our first date (which I combined with several errands I had to do and she happily/begrudgingly tagged along LOL) and drove off from our wedding, the car I picked up my cat in, the car we took to many road trips in and is in so many pictures in the background, the car my wife learned how to drive in (she lived in Tokyo before so she never had to learn how to drive until she moved out for me to the US hahaha). This car is my heart car for my wife and I and we both love its practicality and fun character. We have so many firsts together on this car and it means so much to us. I've recently done some work on it to preserve it now so it can last as long as possible; replacing gaskets, plugs, coils, oil separator, filters, etc etc.. with more robust ones and newer revision ones that came out for later iterations of the engine. You are seriously my inspiration to do all that by myself. Thank you so so much. --- Also, you're doing such a service to the community by selling it to another enthusiast to be their "heart car." That was such a beautiful statement. And seriously, Duane the Editor is the bro'est of total bro's. Lending $2500 to Kid Jared and future Son-in-Law which has now lead to their current career in KZfaq. I bet he did see something special in you and it has paid off in spades. Thank you again for sharing your experience with us!!!

I knew that outline from the thumbnail and was about to get really angry, but it makes total sense, and I'm extremely jealous. Jared, love this video, and man if I hadn't bought Valvoline before I sure will now! Anyway, I can't tell you how much I understand the emotional attachment to a car. It's the memories that make you so emotional, going back in time and thinking of the good things and bad things in your life that kind of swirl around car ownership - maybe some viewer's cars were the only constant in an extremely turbulent life, maybe they're attached to a friend, a wife, a lover, a new job - whatever it may be. Car guys get it. I agree with so many people here that you're not only one of the most genuine people on KZfaq, you're extremely skilled and personable and it's so nice to watch your channel. I can see why you and Tavarish are friends. Thanks for this video, so excited to see the restoration!

I feel your pain brother. I was always a big Need For Speed fan and when the 2005 version of Most Wanted came out, I fell in love with the GTO. Fast forward to the summer of 2009 and I was the proud owner of a 2006 GTO. I went through hell with that thing learning to mod cars. I put on long tube headers, exhaust, over the radiator cold air intake, tuning, a sound system, painting the interior pieces. Not to mention the blowing out a radiator, having a blowout on the highway, MAF sensor issues, AC issues. I loved that car. I traded it and a truck I had at the time in for a nice shiny 6” lifted Toyota Tundra, and I regret that decision every day of my life. I found the VIN in my history on my insurance one day adding my most recent truck to it and I googled the VIN. Turns out the thing was smashed up and sold at an auction and my heart sank. I wish you luck on your future endeavors, non-car people just don’t understand what we go through with our “first car love” and parting ways or talking about them.

Actually teared up a little hearing how much the grey Supra meant to you and your wife. My Grandma sold my Grandfather's Saab 900 Turbo after he passed away in 1985 and purchased a new Supra in 1986. She brought it up to my house in the High Desert because she wanted to know what the top speed was and wanted me to take her for that ride. It was about as much fun as a 16 year old kid could have. She yelled ok at 130 mph on the speedo. My love for those cars was cemented.

The concept of the heart car hit me hard. My heart car wasn't even one I owned. My dad picked up a "little old lady owned" 1984 Buick Skyhawk in around 2005 for his daily driver. When my car blew up and I needed something to drive to college, he let me drive it. It was so small and "quick", and I loved it. He blew the engine about a year later, but I still think about that car nearly 20 years later.

Videos like this are why I love your channel, every car guy has that one car we absolutely love and the reasons can be many. Mine was a 1981 Cutlass Supreme, besides all the great high school memories with the car it was also the fact I busted my butt as a young teen mowing grass, raking leaves, shoveling snow, and detasseling corn to buy my first car. It was the car where I learned how to wrench and my auto tech teacher Mr. Milford was a great guy who inspired us to learn, the day I sold it was emotional to say the least.

I kept it going until 2008, then, for a stupid reason, I let it sit. I've already started the process of bringing it back to life. Boy do I get it! My first car back in 84 was a 68 mustang. I paid $400 for it and after rebuilding the little 302, took it to the track at least once a month. Then in 88 I was offered $4000 for it and couldn't believe someone was willing to pay that much for it. So I sold it, and instantly regretted it. After that life happened and now that I'm disabled and unemployable I'll never own one again and it kills me every time I see one. Good on you for holding onto your heart car and recognizing it's value to you. Also, don't apologize for a video that shows other car guys like myself that we're not the only nuts that have genuine affection for our vehicles. Should be a fun video series.

Jared I totally get it. There are sometimes just those cars that become part of the family and mean more to you than a lot of people can understand. I’ve had a ton of cool cars, Porsches, Astons, a Ferrari, but my old Buick from high school is the one that brings a tear to my eye to think about. I had it for nearly 20 years and followed me through 7 states and a lot of ups and downs in my life. Sadly that one is gone forever as it burned to the ground on the side of the highway. I had let it sit and rodents built a nest under it that caught fire when I tried to pull it out of storage. So build the Supra my friend, and keep those memories alive. We will all enjoy watching it come back to life!

I don't have a car like that. I loved my 86 Firebird through high school and into college, I wrecked it and the love affair ended. I loved my GTP unit it slowly dissolved, but still ran onto the trailer pissing raw fuel everywhere when the jack pushed through the lift point and crushed the fuel line. Then I wasn't in love with it anymore. I loved my 06 GTO, until I wrecked it. When I made the decision not to repair it, I felt bad that I let the car down, but I wasn't in love with it anymore. I've never had that lasting love affair with anything. I'm glad you have yours and I look forward to seeing you put your passion into that car.

Hi Jarad, I rarely comment on a video but felt compelled to do so on this one. Firstly, it seems to me that you have a very special opportunity to do something totally great here. By selling your dream car you can allot all the funds from that to your heart car. It seems to me that you could meld the two and have them both in one package. If it were me I'd make it the ultimate sleeper. Make the outside a beautiful remake of the original supra and make the inside the twin turbo on steroids... Either way I will be watching and wish you the best with your decision.

As a guy who grew up in the 80's, I totally get it, Jared. My first car was a 1972 Chevelle and I rebuilt the engine in it with my Dad. After finally realizing it was not worth all of the effort I put into it, as it had been crashed and rebuilt, I sold it and bought a 1986 1/2 Supra. It was a dream come true for me and, amazingly, my wife and I drove off in it for our honeymoon and experienced the same shoe polish issue you described! My wife loved that car as much as I did but when our family outgrew it, it was sent down the road for a 4 door 1991 Accord that was easier to use with car seats. I loved the 93 and beyond Supra's and the genuine powerhouse of their engines but there is something about the classic lines and pop-up headlights of the previous generation that makes them timeless and more beloved to me. That said, they were underwhelmingly slow. Conclusion: put your vast knowledge to work and make your Supra what YOU want it to be! It doesn't need to impress anyone else--except maybe your wife--so built it to YOUR specifications. It doesn't need to be the fastest, flashiest, or best by other peoples' standards, just stick with your gut and "build it better." Godspeed in your effort! You are a true inspiration to us all.

As a fellow car guy, I totally get it. I have my late brother's Chevelle. He would sometimes pick me up from school in it and now I sometimes pick up my son from school in it. Floods of memories come back every time I drive it.

I understand what you mean Jared! No matter what, that’s always “THE” car! My dad gave me a 1992 Toyota pickup (us aussies call them hilux’s), and although it’s every shade of white, it’s still my “THE” car and nothing will ever compare, I’ve learnt so much just from working on it, and it will forever be in my possession. Very keen to see the series of the comeback for the supra, in the end it’ll be everything you have wanted.

Memories mean a hell of a lot more than dreams. Memories take you back, dreams are what drive you and the “heart cars” or memory cars aren’t always about being the fastest, loudest, or craziest. Sometimes it is a simple car that means the most.

I remember how excited & proud you were to show me the R when I was picking up my Supra from the shop. It's a fabulous example & a great, rare car for the lucky enthusiast who snags it. Eager to watch your build on the '89!!! I'm sure it's going to be amazing.

One of your best moments as a creator. Sharing your passion for what means the most to you is awesome. Love the direction the channel is headed and love the stuff you've done with VGG. You two guys inspire all of us to get out there and get back to what we love. I hope to one day get my son and daughters to help put together something that means as much to us as the Supra does to you and the Mrs. Look forward to the build series. Keep doing what you're doing and keep being true to yourself.

Thanks for this video. I don't care that there wasn't a single spanner in it, sometimes we need a reminder of why we love the cars we do - even if they appear a bit questionable to 'normal' people. Never apologise for making videos like this. It's rare to see the genuine channels run by people who are genuine. I can't stand the overhyped super commercialised channels. Never change mate. I'll be interested to see what you do to the old rig.

Thanks for the story! I own an 83 and 87 Supra Turbo. I was mainly into MKIIs until I rode in a slightly modded MKIII at a Toronto Supra Club meet and then immediately fell in love kept my eye out for one and got mine for a great deal. 15+ years later I still own them. I dont drive them much (1-2k mikes/year) but still appreciate them and turn heads and have a lot of memories with. Ideally I always wanted an 84 and an 89+ and a TT-R Green Mica was always on the bucket list especially since they were allowed in Canada earlier than the states which I'm in Buffalo, NY so would occasionally go up and see one in person. Good luck and looking forward to watching the build!

I like story time with Jared. Don’t fret about it. I recently was one of the ones hoping you’d build this, and I’m all the happier to know you are going to do it and the sacrifice isn’t much of one when you get to keep the one that really embodies the most. I’m here for every questionable choice

Totally understand the sentimental meaning for the car that on paper, might not be as special to someone else - but means the world to you. I cannot wait to see this come back to life, not just because it'll be a cool car, but because you'll get to enjoy it again the way it should be.

Beautiful memories, and can't wait to see the progress. I also have an 89 (pretty much the same color too) that I bought from my dad a few years ago as he liquidated his fleet of Mk3's. I've been sitting on a half finished long block and every morning I see the car and kick myself as i work on my other projects. Thanks for the inspiration and best of luck on the build.

I've been on the fence about getting rid of my "heart car" lately. A 1993 Accord EX. It was the epitome of what I wanted as a young teen. It was my grandmother's back in 1992 before her son took it over. He sold it to my mom in the early 2000s. She drove it for a long time before my pop ended up using it as a commuter car for work (all the while still having 17" wheels, pretty big for the time, a full eibach kit, a custom kicker/Blaupunkt system, and full white leather interior) and finally going to my sister as her college car before being passed on to me. After watching this video I've realized the connection I have with that car and I cannot bring myself to get rid of it. I found myself getting emotional right along with you as I thought about that car and how it's been sitting in my garage for a couple of years as well. Looks like we both have a 2023 "heart car" goal that we will both be getting back on the road.

My EVERYTHING car is a 1979 Chevy Stepside pickup. Ive had it since the day it was new. My dad was older and always in poor health, so we didn't do a whole lot together. But he bought me this truck when I was 17 and I grew up in it! When he developed dementia I would come over about 1-2 in the morning and drive him around in it. It calmed him as nights for him were tough. Gave my sainted mother a break too. It's sitting out in the driveway and hasn't run in about 8 years. Time for me to also start to work on the vehicle that means the most to me!! It will also go to my son one day, who loves it too! Just wish I had your skills..... Enjoyed your story, and I "get it"!!!

My most memorable car was my 1996 Nissan Hardbody SE. Although it was my 3rd vehicle, it was the first I really learned to work on. I lowered it with the help of a friend and a Minitruckin magazine. Traded the wheels it came with for a then brand new set of bigger Pathfinder wheels. Redid the interior myself, learned how to sew in boy scouts. Istalled two systems and was on the way to repainting it when I lost it to a really crappie decision. I still love that truck to this day. I was 19 when I had it, in my 40s now lol!!! Love your channel sir!
