Real talk, when I was listening to the music to decide what songs to use, it hit me that I hadn't realized how good it was. A con of streaming the game, I guess.

@@Macca I definitely recommend playing it a second time without streaming it. The second playthrough will hit different since you will see so much foreshadowing that went over your head the first time

That's because it is. But its alot like umineko in that the "game" is piecing things together yourself and trying to follow along. Only unlike umineko its actually written pretty lean and there are sensible outright realistic solutions to what seem like impossible scenarios.

A lot of this video was already finished, I just wanted to finish the game to see if any of my feelings changed. Thankfully, my opinion didn't change

It does look as a great portable game at first glance, specially in the story/adventure sections. But bear in mind that Destruction mode is a real-time strategy game that grows to a point where you get hundreds, if not thousands, of small enemy units roaming around in a city grid. Even in the 55-inch TV I played it on, sometimes it was hard to keep track of everything, so I fear this game will become almost unreadable in a smaller screen. As an aside, I find it difficult to classify it as a JRPG too. The story mode is basically an old-school 2D point-and-click adventure, while the Destruction mode is pure real time strategy. There's only a narrative connection between the two, not any mechanical one. I mean, you can upgrade the playable units - the "sentinels" - in Destruction, as you would in strategy games, but that has no bearing whatsoever in how the characters operate in story mode. Characters don't level up, have no attributes (even social ones), they're just characters in a story that hop into their sentinels to do combat in the strategy mode. So don't expect it to feel like a JRPG, I'd say. That said, the game is still fantastic, it was my personal GOTY for 2020, and everything Macca said here is totally accurate for me. You gotta play it. If nothing else, for the story and for how there's simply nothing like it in the market.

@@50Personas Finished the game on Switch and I had no issues at all with Destruction mode on my OLED screen. I think it helps that they removed the depth-of-field and CRT scanline filters for that mode specifically (there's now a more digital style "pixel artifact" filter that suits the game more diagetically) that you can make out units even around the edges of the map, which is important since depth-of-field tends to blur things out the further away it is. It also helps that in the Switch version, each character's sentinels get two extra armaments which you can unlock. (I also heard there was some rebalancing done in this version, tool.) I'd peg this game more around the pont-and-click adventure game genre in terms of navigation, and the fact that progression is usually tied with specific typs of interactions couple with this game's own version of an inventory, which in this case is the "Though Cloud". I'd say this is one of the best games to get ported to the system as each character's stories can be enjoyed in small chunks which is perfect for the Switch' hybrid nature. I'm hoping Vanillaware is considering bringing the rest of their back-catalogue to the system, and from the sounds of it that's already happening with the announcement of GrimGrimoire OnceMore.

Trust me, it doesn't change much. The game itself points out when everything is happening. The real ride happens during the narrative segments and trust me: it's WILD

Technically yes, but the game opens on the battle starting and its made clear pretty quickly that its happening at the end of the timeline. Regardless, its very much like a movie opening in the middle of the climax. You have no idea what's going on nor do you have any context. Also helps that not a ton of story actually happens during the battle, at least none that matters.

This is how I am with pc games. I only play there if I'm forced but its a chore. Switch? I prefer it
