I'd love to see a full strength demonstration of these rules. Without the other people, of course. I want to see what the zweihander looks like in motion when lethal force and intent is used.

The big swords are the ones you have to utilise a beautiful flowing style for; you have to use the momentum to keep going or you'll bee far too slow and get killed.

@@monsieurboks zweinhander isn't so slow and weight only 3 to 5 kg, a well trained warrior can be like a one-man-one-army. That weapon is more like a polearme

I mean with a great sword it’s not as big of a problem as with a shorter one, long sword they woudl just stab you with a great sword even if they did the sword then whirls around and gets them

I may have to see if there are any similar workshops in England. I've never seen a Zweihander or any great sword used properly before. The techniques are so different to long swords.

How effective is this? I love the fighting style but im really worried about how protected your lower body is, especially your feet
@letssee8397
@letssee8397 6 жыл бұрын
*Very* effective. They left out key components in the arts of defense for demonstration and safety, but the big sword was developed to fight multiple opponents at once, using its range and power to cause devastating wounds and it was also an agile weapon when up close as well. Other people would have to get close enough to your legs first off, and attacking your lower body completely exposes them to deadly torso and head-neck attacks. Suicide. Plus there's no rule that says you can't drop the big sword in a surprise moment and kill them with your knife.

Feet should not be your target with a sword, especially a two-handed one. Fior dei Liberi says to never attack lower than the knee, and that low attacks leave you uncovered. Liecthenauer teaches us of the over-reaching in which your opponent strikes to a lower opening and one voids their lower body back while striking the head. The great sword has immense reach, and anyone with a shorter weapon (the type of opponents montante is primarily intended to com combat) will never be able to safely reach your lower openings.
@genghiskhan6809
@genghiskhan6809 4 жыл бұрын
The sword is so long, that unless your opponents have weapons of similar or greater length, your legs are almost totally safe. If they do have weapons of comparable or greater length, technique will be what protects you.

Every move has its strength and weakness. A great sword can be 1.8metres or taller so ducking towards the feet of somebody wielding one means you need to cover a lot of ground and youll get nailed in the back by your intended victim as a consequence.

@DreyWunder
@DreyWunder 7 жыл бұрын
The Regenyei Montante is 2430 g. You can also use heavier swords depending on how long you train with it. But for a training over 2 hours everything over 2.5 kg is sometimes too heavy and the execution becomes unclean.

Why are the swords so thin and flimsy they look nothing like the zweihander found in museums
@DreyWunder
@DreyWunder 5 жыл бұрын
The swords we use are partly simulators and slightly thinner (about 2-3kg) to train for hours. In addition, the museum exhibits are mostly ceremonial swords worn on the shoulder to impress. They often weigh 4-5kg. With this weight, while a "Clegane" can act fast and enduring but not all others.

never mind the fact it's extremely hard to actually find zweilanders to buy. Unless you pay a local craftsman to make it for you in my searching I've only found zwei trainers and the ritter steel one.

After seeing this, I finally realized the swordfighting in "the witcher" game series has an actual historic basis even though the weapons used were longswords/bastard swords and not greatswords as in the video (and ofcourse with all the unnecessary fantasy styled jumping and pirouettes and such)

Old post, but the fencing master Diogo Gomes de Figueiredo composed the 16 rules of the Montante, and his 8th rule specifically covers fighting against a shielded opponent. It consists of a lot of low sweeps aimed to get under the shield and hit their legs.
@pard2397
@pard2397 3 жыл бұрын
would love to see your facial expression after blocking a strike with your shield from a 80kg man who attacks you with putting his whole bodyweight and momentum into a spinning attack with a 4kg and 2meters long sword. A spinning heel KICK reaches up to 750pounds of force. Now imagine it with a giant greatsword and better be prepared to enjoy the hand shock when holding your shield with one hand.
