Sen. Mark Warner: Prigozhin ‘says he’s in Minsk,’ in a hotel that doesn’t have any windows

11 ай бұрынPrior to Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin’s planned uprising, U.S. intelligence agencies were closely tracking the events that took place and briefed key members of Congress. Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), a member of the Gang of Eight, joins Andrea Mitchell with new information on the whereabouts of Prigozhin. “I understand, literally, as I was coming on air that he is, says he's in Minsk,” Warner says. “This is just reports," he clarifies, "that he is in a one of the only hotels in Minsk that doesn't have any windows. And I say that because, again, this has been in public reporting, that there have been a number of Russian entity individuals who have gotten run afoul of Putin over the last year and a half, who have mysteriously fallen out of fifth sixth seventh floor windows. So if he is in Minsk in a hotel with no windows that would show at least what his mindset is in terms of how his relationships are with Putin at this point.”

Doesn't matter. Presumably such comments mean that he has security about him rather than being a literal statement about windows. Putin can have him killed plenty of other ways than a window. In fact, having him killed without paper-thin deniability might be more useful for Putin at this point. Being more obvious in his brutality may be the more effective method of cowing his rivals in the current situation.

@@AaaaNinja I mean...with the correct application of force, many things can break open, sure. I suspect the statement refers more to the windows not having hinges or rails to open and close normally. He can certainly still go _through_ the window. Or the chair can go through to clear the way.

They neutralized Prigoshin (he'll disappear and be dead within a few years). Russia has a lot of assets that are controlled by Wagner so they are not going to rock that boat now. And since Wagner is in the end just another company, its employees don't mind who is paying them or for what as long as they get paid. And they are paid big bucks.

@@sparkysmalarkey, Autocrats, drug cartels, or organized crime bosses CANNOT allow it to be seen that someone crossed them and there were no consequences. During the heyday of Pablo Escobar’s drug empire, it was claimed they had so much money in U.S currency that it was stored on shrink wrapped pallets in warehouses where rats and other vermin would just shred some of it. One large international bank was busted for buying money from them by weight so they could launder some of the money. The bank would pay one million dollars for so many kilograms of money. However, even with all that money sitting around, the last thing anyone would want to do is steal a few thousand from them. It was not how much you stole, it is the fact that you DARED to steal from them. Anyone who tried would meet a VERY VIOLENT end. If even ONE person stole from them and they took the attitude that “Oh, it’s only a few thousand, that was a bad thing because of one person got away with it, others would try, and then it could become a problem. Putin CANNOT allow Prigozhin to be seen to get away with this, you don’t get to remain in charge of a criminal empire or a authoritarian government without a lot of fear. Prigozhin is as good as dead, unless something happens that removes Putin from power.

Dictatorships only exist because of the global market race to the bottom. It is time for good people of the world (who can still vote) to stop playing around and put a 500%+ tariff on ALL dictatorships and theocracies. Free trade should only be with free people. All democracies must join together in a free-trade union to finally make all governments accountable to their people by taking the profit out of oppression. Discounts can be given to encourage improvements, but we must be consistent. Domestic tax reductions and rebates will make this tariff cost the consumer nothing. Why Prigozhin turned around: 1) While the Russian army/security forces were not resisting, they also were not joining him; had Russian units gone over to his side, the story would still be going and 2) They threatened his family. With the threat to his family, and not gaining support from the military, he had only 8,500 men in the convoy to try to take Moscow with no air cover and little logistical support.

Sounds like a weak ploy to put the mercenary force in Belarus. They aiming to have Wagner take over belarus or just get a closer position to push into Kiev... him alive after a meeting makes no sense, conducting how the optics appear. Either blow back hasn't happened yet ( longer it takes easier he looks) or it is a bit so clever rouse
