What do Scientology training classes actually consist of and how are they run? What happens when you sign up to become a Scientology auditor? How are you treated? How are you supposed to learn? What is this "word clearing" all about? And why should young people especially be kept as far away from all this nonsense as possible? All of these questions and more are answered in this extensive (and long overdue) breakdown of how Scientology auditor classes are run and what they teach.

One of the spookiest things for me is “no verbal tech” AKA no discussing ideas amongst each other, no comparing experiences or feelings.... or results....it’s so manipulative, controlling and all consuming. Especially for young people who are thrown in without knowing there’s another way to experience life 🤦🏻‍♀️😞thank you for sharing, it’s incredibly eye opening.

Jada Pinkett-Smith claims she wasn't a Scientologist but she was interested in the Study Tech. LOL L Ron needed to be sent to write the word CONTEXT on the board a million times. When you READ efficiently, you do NOT read every word. Speed reading leaves out MANY words. I'd have walked out on your "class" Chris, but you did great here! Thanks for explaining all of this!

I worked as a Course Supervisor for about 4 years, specifically as a Theory Supervisor, TRs Supervisor and Objectives Supervisor. I just wanted to comment on one small mistake, pretty much everything else was correct as far as i could tell. What you described as M9 word clearing was perfectly correct EXCEPT it was M7 word clearing. M9 word clearing is similar to M7 except the student and word clearer look up "Each and Every Word" meaning EVERYTHING, one by one through the text or material. Love your podcast, keep it up :)

@@ChrisSheltonMsc Maybe there was errors in our text then for the Course Supervisor Course and Learning To Study courses (from Narconon). The only Methods that were ever given to us were M3, M6, M7 and M9. I never knew the other ones because most use the cans, which we didn't have. M3 was self word clearing, if you feel a manifestion go back and clear the word etc, M6 was KEY word clearing, the main important words of a text, M7 was reading aloud word clearing if there was fumble go back with the student to find the word and M9 was every single word of the text word clearing. It probably was misnamed from Scientology --> Narconon texts? But im 100% this is what they were for me, i still have the texts.

Language is a relational system. Much of the meaning comes from words' relationships to the other words around them. The breaking down and focusing on individual words seems to help break down this relational aspect. At some point it seems it would actually make understanding more difficult but sort of pulling elements out of their context. There has to be some impact on how you actually perceive things at some point. Focusing on the individual rather than the larger context. You are sort of taking words out of their world. Much like Scientology wants you to take yourself out of your world and put yourself in the Scientology bubble. It also gets you into this repetitive trap.... again getting you to think obsessively.. perfect for a destructive cult.In focusing obsessively on individual things and literal meanings, it is clearly a totally fundamentalist way of thinking in disguise. Interesting that it starts from the very first lessons. This whole approach also helps alienate you from others because the whole idea of relating and nuance is trained out of you. It also doesn't that you are actually learning how to communicate with people.... you are learning how to communicate AT people. I don't think the goal here is for people to understand one another. I think it is more just setting up a battle for authority and control. Also, it just seems like it would just kind of confuse you and make you question yourself. If you didn't already have some crisis or disturbance in your life that led you over to Scientology, you would be vulnerable after a few days of this. In some ways it is good to question how you have thought about things in the past. But this is just absurd. Once you have yourself all in upheaval, here comes Hubbard to fill that anxiety and vulnerability up with his fascist, narcissistic ideas. How insidious.

I noticed that after my experience in Scientology I question everything I learn and study. I would disagree with things in the course room only to be told that I had an MU. Months and years of my life were wasted in the courseroom looking up words. My brain was occupied trying to handle all the contradictions I kept on coming across. I was constantly feeling like I dont know what I am doing, like i am never enough and i will never have any certainty. I always struggled to attest...how is a person supposed to attest to knowing that they can handle all situations with communication alone from here on out....its ridiculous.

I remember doing this, it was long tedious and somewhat fun. The reason I pursued auditing is that I could co-audit and save alot of money and it was fun and it was a better quality of auditing than the high classed auditing that I received at Flag. I also wanted the respect that an auditor gets rather than that from an administrative position. I also moonlighted as an auditor where I made cash on the side as a public student auditor. Yes giving auditing was rewarding but receiving student auditing was also good. Wouldn't do it again. And the word clearing , it was difficult when I co word cleared with someone that spoke 4 asian languages and I only knew English.

Hi Chris Really glad you did this video because it essentially explains how it all worked with the study. It's so intense and rigorous. The student hats must have been worn out out after a full work day then having to stretch their minds around all of this in depth study during the evening. I can't imagine what it's like to be under this kind of pressure. Other people who are familiar with other cults have pointed out how it's a similar feature of them all to keep the flock always busy without a moment to spare or wonder what's going on in the rest of the world. It's eyes down, nose to the grind stone. Only half way, through, gearing up for the last hour... Wow - got o the end. This is a destructive process. It honestly makes a person into a programmed robot. It's drilling out compassion and the ability to reach out to another it's just making it an abusive process. Brain washing training is here in capital letters. So grateful to you for having the courage to show us all what goes on behind closed doors. Keep it up Chris, you're doing a sterling Joe sweetie. Kindest regards p.

I am an exec at my workplace and I work for scientologists. I am not a scientologist myself, but we as execs have to take all these L. Ron Hubbard courses. We've done about 10 books ranging from BSM to the Communications course. I just started the Communications course and it is getting really too weird for me. I want to draw the line with this one but am afraid I will be frowned upon. The courses are not mandatory but highly HIGHLY pushed. $cientology training and auditing seem outrageously tedious. The purpose must be to pound, pound, pound Hubbard's crap into the student so as to restructure the student's brain to such an extent that it will be next to impossible to free himself from the Hubbard programming, even when he wants to. One of the things I most dislike about Scientology is how it reduces individual human beings to a set of pre-fab labels and treats them as objects to be "handled" with cynical techniques. Chris, thanks for your excellent description of this corporatized brainwashing machine called Scientology.

1:35:10 Excellent points, non stop, great job Chris. 1:51:22 sums it up. Just excellent summary. Hubbard's views that all humans are in such dire mental status as to require the Scientologist pseudo-therapists to be prison guard man handling proficient, speaks to Hubbard's view of all humans. Hubbard said earth was a prison planet in the Hubbard galactic bigger picture. So Scientology's authoritarian Hubbard justification makes sense to a damaged mind like L. Ron Hubbard's, now foisted off onto today's Scientologists who play out Hubbard's quackery training and quackery delivering script. Earth is a prison planet in the back of now dead Hubbard's sick mind, and that justified the Scientology fantasy required authoritrarianism. L. Ron Hubbard's auditng needs to be rather refered to as total quackery. And this talk is overwhelming evidence of how bad the Scientologist quack therapist is trained to adopt to enforce the Hubbard pseudo-therapy/exorcism onto Scientologists. Really great job with so many excellent conclusions, Chris.

Im surprised anyone even stays in the church after seeing the drudgery and treatment in the first class. I suppose people must really believe in the mission

Training people with no experience, background, or education to use physical touch in processing traumatic experience is unbelievably unethical for both trainees and prospective clients. (In professional therapeutic work with trauma survivors, there is "Therapeutic Crisis Intervention" training for managing the physical responses of clients that are out of their own control -- not the therapist's!) On a lighter note -- I have found that sometimes cracking up in response to (especially) a ranting teenage client's "stand-up routine" -- assuming we have a good baseline relationship -- can be the most therapeutically helpful response, giving them permission to let go of their own angst! By the way -- what the #3!! are minors doing in these classes? Until they can rent a car, or at least drink, or at least die for their country (note age-irony), they need to keep making $#@! out of clay....

The tragedy of this -- besides the obvious abuse of multitudes of children and adults -- is that each of these techniques is, in itself helpful or creative. (And many of them, or variations on them, are widely used in effective education and therapy today -- though I don't know if their origin is related to Scientology!) But in this format, hideous. Perfect example of everything being created good -- but everything being able to be misused for any awful purpose 😱....

Its funny how I just loved student hat and all the control and paranoid obsessivenes, because I Was determined to make my supervisor Proud of my efforts to comply fully. Even if it Took a lot of time and I Was sent to ethics and given pink sheets.. I loved sitting in that quiet ordered room With dedicated assistance and supervision.. finally feeling I Was able to learn stuff and pass the exams.. not getting grades but only pass when having 100% understanding. I missed that in School.. I learned a lot of words and Got a lot of selfrespect out of that.. the backside is how all my expensive books were not opened in fear of ruining my Way up the bridge.. and yea I became very judgemental on the issue in general

It must make young Scientologists kids crazy having to use dictionaries! Now days they all use tablets. Does Scientology offer tablets now days? I mean.....it would be so much faster to get definitions.
