*Fun fact:* Wat Tambor was first introduced in the 2001 novel "Cloak of Deception", one year before his film debut in "Attack of the Clones". James Luceno had George Lucas' permission to read the script for Episode II while writing the book.

@@ZKP314it’s a bit complicated. Basically a mercenary working for Darth Maul and Darth Sidious steals precious cargo from a trade federation ship, the trade federation complains to Chancellor Valorum that they can’t defend their ships from pirates, Valorum on the advice of Palpatine organizes a trade summit negotiation between the republic and trade federation, and a terrorist organization representing poor outer rim worlds gets upset that they’re being excluded from the trade summit and try to assassinate chancellor Valorum. They fail the first time, but the same mercenary who robbed the trade federation ship is hired by the terrorist group to do the same thing at the trade summit, the Jedi get involved, try to foil the assassination attempt, but to everyone’s shock, the trade federation droids turn on the directorate of the trade federation and execute them. Nute Gunray then stacks the now vacant directorate with neimoidian sycophants, the Jedi eliminate the terrorist group, and the precious cargo stolen from the trade federation ship at the beginning of the book mysteriously ends up having been invested in Chancellor Valorum’s families companies on Eriadu. He’s changed with corruption and embarrassment and various other crimes, and is stripped of many of his executive powers and disgraced. He insists that he’s been framed and set up, but no one believes him except for his close friend Senator Palpatine.

@@ZKP314 Cloak of Deception is told in four parts: Dorvalla, Coruscant, The Outlying Systems, and The Inner Circle. Shortly before the Battle of Naboo (32 BBY), Darth Sidious is in the middle of his plans. As Senator Palpatine, he manipulates Supreme Chancellor Valorum and other senators. As the Sith Master, he begins to slowly put the Neimoidians and the Trade Federation in position for his blockade of Naboo. A terrorist group known as the Nebula Front threatens the activities of the Trade Federation. They are protesting the actions of the group and will resort to any means necessary to disrupt the Trade Federation. They have hired Captain Arwen Cohl to carry out terrorist acts against their business, including robbing a Trade Federation ship of aurodium ingots, worth billions in orbit of the planet Dorvalla. However, Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi are hot on the trail of the terrorists. Though Cohl escapes, he is forced to crash-land and all but him and two of his crew members, Rella and Boiny, perish. He later flees in his ship, the Hawk-Bat. Fearing more trouble, the Trade Federation petitions the Galactic Senate to allow them to increase their number of droid fighters, battle droids, and other defenses. Valorum considers this, but only if he can tax some of the trade routes they hold (on advice from Palpatine). This sparks a debate and a summit on Eriadu is scheduled to be held on the matter. Taking extreme measures, the Nebula Front sets plans in motion to assassinate Supreme Chancellor Valorum at the summit to prevent the taxation. Cohl has been hired by a mysterious being known only as Havac. He travels throughout the Outer Rim, hiring several experienced assassins. Unknown to him however, Havac (secretly in league with Darth Sidious) has another plan. Meanwhile, the Jedi Council, along with Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, steps in to track down Captain Cohl and the would-be assassins. On Eriadu, Cohl dispatches his helpers throughout the capital city. He is ambushed by Havac after realizing the true target. Most of the assassins are captured by the Jedi outside the summit building, but one remains inside. A sniper, he has been given the order to fire at, but miss, Valorum. The Jedi find Cohl and his partner Boiny, who, wounded, agrees to help them. They discover the sniper a second too late, but are surprised when he misses Valorum. Then Cohl remembers the true intent of Havac: to assassinate the Trade Federation Directorate. Cohl tackles Havac and kills him, though he and Boiny are mortally wounded in the attempt. Suddenly, the battle droids draw their blasters, influenced by the single droid present that didn't require a Central Control Computer to act. With a shield activated for safety, the members of the Trade Federation are trapped. The droids kill them all while the crowd watches, stunned. The only survivors were the Neimoidian members, who were away to their ship which had been tampered with. In the ensuing shock, the bill to tax is passed by the Senate. Later, the leading members of the Federation are named. They are all Neimoidians. Darth Sidious later meets Nute Gunray on the bridge of his ship, suggesting they invade Naboo for revenge against Palpatine, who helped pass the bill. Little do they know that it is just part of the Sith Lord's plan for control of the galaxy.

Warden Sobeck also made a HUGE error when he denied the assistance of Darth Tyranus in hunting down the Jedi and their forces. Even worse he continued to stall Tyranus even at the behest of his tactical droids in pursuit of his own glory. Once the offer was denied, only victory or death would be accepted. If he had accepted Darth Tyranus and his reinforcements, not only would he have had a much better chance of recapturing the Republic escapees, but if the Republic operation *still* succeeded he would not have held the full blame.

There’s even a scene in the Cloak of Deception novel where Nute Gunray, Rune Haako and Hath Monchar are complaining to Darth Sidious about how awful and obstructive and annoying Senator Palpatine is, and Darth Sidious assures them that there is much more to Palpatine than meets the eye, and that he will not be an issue for the Trade Federation.

@tk-6967

My theory with Wat Tambor is that, while he didn't think he would lose so easily, it was very clear that the Sith/corporate objective on Ryloth was to make the CIS unpopular and to make sure Cham Syndulla and other resistance fighters would remain loyal to the Republic, since Senator Orn Free Taa and Cham had a mutual distrust for one another, and originally Ryloth looked like it might leave the Republic prior to the cruel invasion, which would put both Sidious' and the mega corporations' interests at risk. It isn't like the battle of Ryloth ended after Tambor's capture either, the remaining separatist forces continued to ravage Ryloth. Since Tambor was in on the Sith plan and had clear interests in a Republic victory, it seems like his plan was originally to steal a bunch of treasure and gtfo of Ryloth, leaving behind an ill-prepared droid army with enough munitions to cause long lasting destruction to Ryloth's people but without the leadership to pose a serious threat to the Republic. The thing that everyone underestimated was Cham Syndulla, and it is clear that his resistance fighters had been the ones delaying Tambor's plan. Since Palpatine had no way to control the actions of the resistance fighters, Tambor was now at risk, which is probably why we see Dooku ordering Tambor to evacuate the capital following the successful landing of Republic troop transports carrying thousands of soldiers and hundreds of walkers.

Many Separatist leaders Survived the war

First in clone wars series I thought it was to TV show. The good guys always win. It was even mentioned in rebels. . Later mentioned by Ezra neither side was meant to win. You made videos on how Duku Throw many battles and the war. But how come legitimate separatist didn't get tired of Dukus incompetents

Because they weren't in control of anything. And also, Dooku was the political, not military leader of the CIS.

Respecting a truce isn't about honor and breaking one isn't clever tactics. This goes double for the supposed guardians of peace. Wars generally don't end with the annihilation of one side, they end with the two sides coming to the table and negotiating terms. The two sides can be relatively even or the negotiations can be very one-sided with one side having no leverage to do anything but accept the other side's terms, but that's how wars actually end. But before a war can end there must first be a truce. Breaking a truce is a pretty good way to ensure that a war continues for years or even decades because how can the other side ever be sure that any terms offered are genuine? And if hypothetically speaking there's an autocrat that wants to undermine the credibility of the Jedi Order and justify extreme measures in dealing with them, Obi-Wan breaking a truce would be pretty good propaganda material.

Why wasn't Lok Durd recruited into the empire . Maybe could have worked on the Death Star with the secret hole to reactor.
@GamerX51
@GamerX51 4 ай бұрын
Because he was an Alien; Palpatine's Empire was a Xenophobic, human-centric autocracy. The only reason Thrawn got to the position that he had was because he got results and was smart enough to know how to talk to Palpatine without making him feel threatened, so Palpatine was willing to overlook the fact that he was Chiss.

@@GamerX51there were a few other non-humans in the Imperial military, but if I’m not mistaken, every single one of them (including Thrawn) was promoted directly by Emperor Palpatine himself. That was the only way they were able to have jobs in the imperial military.
@SarastistheSerpent
@SarastistheSerpent 4 ай бұрын
For a few reasons: 1. Lok Durd was a Separatist and was therefore against the Republic, and by extension the Empire. 2. Neimoidians were scapegoated by the Imperialist core worlds as being the cause of the war, and the purse worlds and their people were absolutely ravaged by the Empire after the war. Only the Geonosians suffered a worse fate at the hands of the empire. 3. The Imperial military was extremely racist and humanocentric, and virtually no aliens were permitted to join the Empire’s military. The few that were allowed to join, like Thrawn, were only able to do so because Emperor Palpatine assigned them personally. 4. Lok Durd was in Republic custody for most of the war, and was therefore an enemy of the Republic/Empire. 5. Lok Durd made numerous enemies within the Republic military while he was an active Separatist military commander, most notably Orsen Krennic.

I think an honorable mention should be Sanjay Rash from Onderon. He already captured the planet and declared himself king. Instead of trying to win the hearts and minds of the population by using the resistance attacks as propaganda, he ended up making them look like heroes by trying to execute the former king.

Ummm they were played just as the Jedi were played. They were pawns in Sidious’s plan to destroy the Republic, the Jedi Order, and to blame it on the Jedi and non humans -which the Jedi Order was largely comprised of AND LED BY ONE…I think blaming their downfall on anything they actually did is wrong because Sidious was playing both sides and as a result was sabotaging both sides so the war would drag on

Basically Dave Filoni fucked up the lore. Disney had to cover for him by explaining that he was broken out somehow (in the heart of Republic territory, it makes no fucking sense, I know). Tambor's participation on Ryloth was pretty nonsensical, and in reality should be ignored. He was the CEO of one of the biggest companies in the galaxy, it makes no sense for him to be leading an invasion force. What would even be his motivation?
