The crowd supported Clijsters instead of Venus. Had Venus gotten crowd support they would have helped push her to the win. I was there and I was shocked by the crowd.

The match was closer than it should have been because the rest of her game was bad, which means 3. that anything less than perfection in any part of Serena's game was nothing at all to do with Petra's own tactics. Back in 2010 Kvitova was no way near as good as she would be 2011 onwards. Serena meanwhile was in top form. However, Petra played her best tournament up to this point and pushed Serena in ways she wasn't expecting. Which resulted in Serena being off balance, playing from greater depth, having to dictate through more than just power. Therefore not playing badly, just Petra playing way better than expected. Serena fell behind as she often does in this situation but she made herself play better- better than Kvitova's best to wrestle away the control. Someone (especially someone of Serena's calibre) doesn't usually just play terribly through no means of force by the other player, and certainly for the Williams sisters, there game revolves around their serve- it doesn't make sense whatsoever to say her serve was en point and the rest was dreadful. As her serving got more consistent, the rest fell in to place.
