There is some of that, be if we only focus on the negatives it can become demoralising, also just focusing on what will fail your is very much a mindset to just pass the test, but it is more important to drive safely, passing the test will just be a byproduct. I am not a fan of some of these driving instructor who get people to do a mock test well before they are ready, and then on top of that are extremely harsh with their marking, meaning the learner ends up with 8 serious faults and 25 driver faults, like I say not good for the learner who does the mock test.

Well done for not only showing the learners mistakes, but also from those that passed their test. For example, on the first clip, that silver car on the left would also get a serious fault on their driving test for using left lane to turn right (road markings say ahead or left).
@UKDrivingTest
@UKDrivingTest 3 жыл бұрын
Yes lots of the examples on this videos are connected. So using the left lane to turn right is dangerous as other drivers might not check their mirrors and spot you when exiting, equally shows the importance of checking your mirrors effectively before exiting. Also later clips continue to show importance of doing MSM in good time to exit the roundabouts, if done too late then other vehicle may assume you are continuing around the roundabout and pull out in front of you, but also shows why you should not assume, people do make mistakes after all.

1:01 Silver car in left lane signals right (a lot of drivers on main roads lose track of navigation and lane up incorrectly). If we notice this early all that is needed is for us to slow with easing the gas to generate space ahead for him to move into. He will likely speed up and into the space you have afforded. If he doesn't speed up all you need to do is gently accelerate and someone behind will let him in. Only subtle gas adjustments are needed to sort out this type of situation. Watch the car and watch the drivers head. The candidate shuts the space down and moves alongside the errant driver then does not get sufficient lead on him before changing position across his path. If ever in doubt turning right on a roundabout you can abort by recirculating as explained.
@UKDrivingTest
@UKDrivingTest 3 жыл бұрын
yes very true, I am always puzzled that many drivers find driving stressful, but the reason it is stressful is because they are not driving defensively and doing things like you have said. Drive defensively and follow the rules and driving is stress free!

Do you have many spiral roundabouts near you? I wonder if it is just a case of lack of experience on them? as some areas in the UK don't have them at all. Whereas in Crawley they are fairly common so I feel quite happy to do unfamiliar ones

@@UKDrivingTest We've plenty, I've hit a learning plateau or wall. Or I've gone got a complex/anxiety over them. History is 25 years of not knowing the rules, driving heading into all Spirals middle lane , busking it around changing lanes mid spiral, and never reading signs coming upto them too much. So I've trained myself subconsciously to be dangerous and slow around them. The opposite of being an ADi teaching them, yes I passed PT2 in Dec but I'm literally built up a wall of worry over them, so rather than reading sign and coming in slow I'm skim reading sign, worrying, landing hopefully in right lane, then hoping track bottom right correctly and make best of a lane split where going last exit right 270 degrees. It all becomes a bit too much, got knows how this has happened. Other areas my driving explemporary , just roundabouts have gone to 'POT''. Seams more do them more I understand but the wall of worry entering them when new continues.

Have you watched "Eddie the eagle" it is a pretty good film, based on a true story I believe, and not too dissimilar to "Cool runnings". Both of them have quite a good lesson, if you are determined you can achieve your goals even if everything seems against your odds. There is also a nice quite "The important thing in life is it's not the triumph, but the struggle" Pierre de Coubertin. So if you keep at it I am sure you can over come the learning plateau, you can then use this example with your learners to motivate them if they are stuck on something.

@UKDrivingTest 3 жыл бұрын
not really, it is going to at least a year (at a guess) for things to get back to sensible length queues, as there has been 7-8 months of no tests. Apparently each examiner is going back to doing 7 tests a day, previously doing 6. Also suppose to be weekend and evening tests, but don't think this has started yet, and doubtful it will, DVSA always very slow at processing things.

Question on the first clip. In that scenario should you slow down and let the silver car pass? Or would it be better to just play it safe and go round until you get back to the exit. Unfortuntately failed today, for that reason. Was exiting on my third exit and when leaving cut past someone on my left. Bit frustrating since i'd never encountered a situation like that and assumed I had right of way. Appreciate the videos, been learing a lot from them!
@UKDrivingTest
@UKDrivingTest Жыл бұрын
I think this is the problem, many people do get muddle with the priorities when exiting a roundabout, incorrectly thinking they have priority as they are on the roundabout. But a roundabout is just a two lane one-way system, you are in the right hand lane, if there is traffic on the left hand lane and you want to move lanes, who has priority? Treat it like a lane change, and not just a habit of mirrors to exit a roundabout and you will do much better and stay safe. Bearing this in mind, what would you do if in the RH lane of a one-way system, you want to change lanes and there was a vehicle very close in the LH lane? You would stay in your lane and NOT move, on the roundabout this would mean staying in the RH lane and going back around. Of course on a proper one-way system slowing a little bit to let them pass is an option, but generally not an option on a roundabout as people might not expect you to slow, plus you could be holding up traffic, so say going around the roundabout is a better option.

I failed on the box junction near college roundabout in Rotherham stopped just about in it this was few months ago the examiner was gutted as he was really impressed with how handled so many challenging situations that day , had lot of cars overtaking left right and centre the box was on an incline and I forgot about it learnt from that one , go just a bit slower especially in traffic buildup and dealing with eager overtakers and people cutting in at the same time and I will easily pass np , I have autism add and been a long journey 300 hours or so starting with 5 manual cars and struggling and having to look at the gears while changin , had many close calls , complex situations even envoled in a crash on my test ( i have had 6 test I think so far )when going up hill speed was fine did all observation then suddenly a women driver came flying out of a restricted view side road and tboned ha at 40 mph , then 7 years later had a diagnosis of dyspraxia autism add it all made sense I have disconnect and coordination s problems it's why I struggled so much in manual , j then got an automatic driving instructor 2 years later thanks my brilliant last instructor who helped me mange my add while driving and starting in mirrors at times , trained my brain , he's had go medical leave then last month had a new instructor who has an electric honda which was lucky as all other instructors were booked up im just as good as anyone else now and all those hours of experience over the years as lessons on and off over few years came into fruition , as the other day I had to come off in the right hand lane after the roundabout , get back over to left , had speed up then get back over very quickly then had to stoped as soon as back ove the got lights changed to ambe then r and hard to brake at stop from 40 will cars quite close behind this was all in mater of 100 metres or so ( I don't neurolgicaly have the quickest reaction either) My advice for anyone comparing or annouyed it's taking them hours , you just gain more experience and will be better able to handle complex situation s when you pass driving on your own that some who has had the bare minium , got my test retake in October have no worries I feel Ike am experienced driver that's been driving for a good few years I guess In a way that's true

Can you do a video on Speedwatch and explain to motorists what they actually do as there is a lot of misinformation. It would be good to see you on your videos taking in part in Speedwatch, they only need one hour of your time occasionally. They are there to make the area safe, they know where the crash hotspots are. and are 'not a bunch of busybodies with nothing better to do'.If motorists don't know who they are they can risk being abused *which gets reported to the police anyway

Silver car was on the wrong lane to take 3rd exit, also you were in front of silver car, means you have the advantage.
@UKDrivingTest
@UKDrivingTest 2 жыл бұрын
The other driver being in the wrong lane does not give you priority, equally being ahead of another vehicle does not give you priority. Misunderstanding and assumptions like this is what causes collisions on the roads, instead you need to do what is safe, the silver car, regardless if they should be there or not, was very close behind and moving in front of them is dangerous, if they were accelerating at the time then they would have been hit. When the insurance companies investigate it would probably be a 50/50 blame, 50% because the silver car was in the wrong lane and should not be overtaking on the left, 50% because you should always check it is safe before exiting a roundabout, it is basically a lane change.
@nexgenvxv6652

@@UKDrivingTest Only mistake I see there is, L car should stick longer towards inside of the roundabout, he was in front of silver one fair amount, so all he/she had to do is make sure there is a car or so gap between them when L exits. And that's why insurance companies are wrong, if you wouldn't be where you shouldn't therefore accident wouldn't happen. Cus applying your logic to this situation you would ask me to brake on the roundabout to let this silver muppet pass me while risking somebody ramming into me.

@UKDrivingTest 3 жыл бұрын
ok, it is difficult to say for sure as I was not there. But... "I saw 3 cars in front of me, from the opposite direction, already committed to go left.... I had to pause" It sounds like the better options would have been to slow earlier to give the oncoming vehicles time to see you and to give way, if they don't, keep the car moving at a slow speed (less than 5mph) to show your intentions. If you fully pause (stop) it will risk being hit from behind and also you might get 'stuck' halfway through the traffic lights over the stop line. I guess the serious fault was because you stopped, but you just need to slow earlier and crawl. Not sure if that makes sense? If you had a video of the situation and I could do a video showing you how I would deal with the situation it would all be much clearer, as it is quite hard to put it into words.
