I think this product was made more for beginners who’ve never used cricut in the past. As a person who’s never used one, it can be very intimidating. When I saw they offer a smaller, easier to use machine, I was excited. Not to mention, you don’t need to buy the extra add ons like a mat, etc. I will be doing more research and possibly purchasing. I’m a new business owner who would use it for personalizing my logo and business name on boxes & other beauty products.

Me too. I'm new to Cricut/cutting machines. I am also a new business start up and I want to make custom stickers, labels, etc. I like the super compact size and it's really all I need and all I have space for. I buy the vinyl for the larger machines and cut them down (much bigger selection).

i started on a cricut machine and have since purchased the silhouette. i love it. i appreciate your honest review; it felt sincere and you seemed almost hurt that you were being so honest. i agree that by putting the "newest" item into something we already own is better for us. this is a hobby for most and we can't afford to spend more money on things we really don't need. again, thanks for your honesty.

I started with cricut years ago, loved it then. It seem they updated the very original baby bug. I had it and returned it for my first expression. Loved the machine. But was limited back then with cartridges. Ordered the Gypsy but when I had an issue and a huge run around with the company to try and fix the Gypsy, Cricut co left bad taste in my mouth. I will not any time soon purchase Cricut machines. I have a Silhouette, I love the versatility and I will continue to use Silhouette before any other Cricut machine.

I enjoy the cricut joy because it’s soooooo easy to use. It’s very beginner friendly. Once I really learn design space I will get a larger machine at a later date...good for small projects and T-shirts.. cards etc..

I bought the Joy and I love it the portability makes bringing it to meet ups and crops easier. The integration of all the buttons ( media, feed, cut) is all part of app.

I bought this and I’m sending it back. The ‘portability’ appealed as I have health issues. However, it is deceptively heavy and I struggled to lift it. I laughed about you fitting it in your ‘purse’ until I realised you must be American. Your purse is our handbag. A purse to us holds coins maybe a couple of bank notes and a credit card. Maybe around 2” x 4” although they can vary and be slightly larger or smaller.

I had a Cricut early on and it made me crazy. setting the pressure, using a different knife, omg. Now I’m retired, I have a small craft area. I don’t do the kind of larger projects people with the large machines do. I was excited to get the Cricut Joy. It does everything I need done in small space. I love it!

Yes!! I had the original cricut and hated it. It didn’t cut well. The cartridges were expensive and I would only use one or two on it. So I bought the silhouette cameo and it’s so confusing. I mostly do monograms or small things so I’m loving the smaller machine by cricut.

I bought the Cricut Joy and am very happy with it. I don't see it as a waste of money. It's perfect for traveling and hotel living.

Thanks for being honest. I think the price is pretty high and I prefer the Explore Series. I have a 24" mat for longer projects and it does the job. Seems like if they want to do something new maybe some interactive images for interactive cards or a larger Print area.

I am mostly a card maker. I LOVE the Joy for cutting out small objects and patterns for cards without having to pull out my Maker. I've also used it to make large words for poster boards and banners. My advice is to read all the details for every machine and choose the one that works best for the types of things you craft and how you craft.

I got smart I got the portrait 2 sold Maker and all tools. I took money paid off my cameo 4 plus and cost with a bundle was cheaper than the joy.

It does so much, sure not everything the big ones do, but it does some stuff the others don’t like mat free cutting, it’s portable and it’s great for small spaces. You pay for quality not size.

Thank you for the review. I had just placed an with HSN to get the Joy, but while watching this review I cancelled it. My hunky husband went out and bought me the Explore Air 2 in Lilac, and I love it, it’s so pretty. I have no idea what to do with it😬 I’m going to watch as many videos as I can to get me started. I have a maker, purchased in Nov....wish I had bought a silhouette! The maker was supposed to be the new workhorse with the ability to expand capabilities , and a machine to invest in for the future. It’s a lot of hype to get you to purchase a new machine, and all new products! Shame on cricut for taking advantage of and exploiting their customer base!

THANK YOU!!! I purchased the Joy on Black Friday this year for $129. Today I saw that the explore air two is now on sale for only $20 more than I purchased the Joy $149. I’m so happy that I never opened the box because I just exchanged the Joy for the explore air two. I even got my favorite color, (purple/lilac).

A big difference between Honesty and Opinion....The Joy is meeting the needs of the people it was intended for to begin with....I will be buying one when the sale is profitable for me, not just because it’s new....and instead of spending valuable time prepping other materials to work on the Joy, I will use what Cricut has created to be used in it. I believe Cricut will continue to meet our needs and make it possible for the Maker or Air 2 to cut longer lengths depending on demand. It breaks my spirit to see someone that became successful through supporting Cricut products change their opinion so aggressively. I was there for the 100,000 subscriber s countdown wishing you the best. I miss that Auntie Tay.

I think their marketing and brand team was brilliant in this rollout. This isn’t a tool for the existing users, but for the new users and users who are limited in space. Personally, I have the Maker and do not use it as much as I should because it is clunky to get out. Ashish said new software updates are coming for existing so it was smart to roll this out first and then after the dust settles (and sales), they will rollout new stuff for the maker and legacy machines. What better way to boost their sales? That’s smart. That’s business.

I owned a CRICUT MINI before I bought my Explore Air. You had to use cartridges so was obsolete once the Explores came along. Now they are bringing a new one out. I have upgraded to a Maker now

Cricut is telling me that the Joy will solve my biggest problem. I love my Air 2 but it struggles with tiny logos/letters. Because I do a lot of custom art work I use vinyl almost daily as a stencil. But as soon as I drop under an inch my explore cuts and mangles the logo/letters. Apparently the Joy tops the Explorer and the Maker in this regard or says the cricut rep. thoughts? FYI I have decreased the cut pressure and it helped a little.

Same thing like any new technology. If a new iPhone comes out you don't have to buy it. Its not for everyone. Apple has to make money. So does Cricut. We are not obligated to buy anything. Again the cricut joy its not for everyone but it could be for that one person that really loves it

Literally just bought the Joy today. Went back and forth between that and the air 2 but I’m completely new to these machines and don’t plan on doing “big jobs”. I figured I could learn with the Joy and then eventually move up to the Air 2 and my kids can use the Joy for their crafts/ideas 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Hello from South Carolina:) I'm in LOVE with my Cricut Explore Air 2. So I bought the Joy to carry around back and fourth from friends house but in my opinion it's not worth the money. I would just prefer the Air 2:)

Agree 100%. I bought the Joy when it came out and eventually became really frustrated with it when many times I could not craft simple things like certain designs for t-shirts because the Joy was not large enough. Since I outgrew the Joy in 6 months, I bought the Maker. I am really frustrated with Cricut for even offering the Joy. What a waste of money!

I think instead of making a mini Cricut they should work on adding cool features to DS, such as free-hand drawing on the app itself so we can draw and cut or print our doodles and handwriting right away as well as adding an eraser that can be used at all times...not only when cleaning the image before uploading. No more products, more design features (so we don’t have to go so much to gimp, Inkscape, PS...etc)

Even with its limitations I'm hoping to buy the JOY. I love that it's super portable and I can cut names to personalize at craft fairs and that I can sit it on my desk at work and my boss will likely think it's a fancy stapler or something.

The minute you showed the tiny mat, i was thinking to myself, "JUST CUT IT TO FIT " . Us cameo users were using cricut mats forever since they were cheaper, ive bought the cricut 24 inch and made 2 mats for my silhouette. Now adays i buy a brand on Amazon, and love them, 3 for 10.00, but im guessing you might possibly be coming out with Tay mats of your own, if you havent already... have a great day😊

Im just going to throw this out there. I have the Air 2 and love it also and would not trade it for the joy. I make a lot of cards and print out a lot of sentiments for them and my thought is to buy the Joy only because it's small and can fit right there on my desk and take up a smaller space. Maybe it would be good for those that do a lot of cards and want it for the purpose mentioned. My Air 2 is in another room on an organization cart with all the supplies that go with it. I have to leave my small room to go out to use it. With the joy I wouldn't have to. So if you don't do anything thing else but cards like me it would be good.

Love your videos! Just an FYI...Joann's came out with the Joy the same day that Michaels did. And I've found the same you did, talking to others and working in a craft store....I don't feel it's worth the extra money. On my budget, if it doesn't do MORE than my Air 2, I'm not wasting my money. I don't need portable...Thanks for the video!

i want to start making car decals and i have never used anything to do with it. would the cricut joy starter pack be a good way of starting out and is the cricut joy a good size for the car decals? thanks

I have the air 2 and just got my Maker on Black Friday 2019 and tuns of accessories, then I find out about this little machine. I just don’t get it with the price point and having to buy more things to use it. It’s cute and perfect for someone with a small space but I’m so over it!

I think this was created more for those just beginning, have smaller work areas. Also geared more for smaller projects and easier travel

Im so exhausted. I'm an ol' girl who made cards etc manually with her Sissex machine. I desperately want to invest in a digital cutter but the truth is the prices here in Australia are outrageous. Im happy to invest in a machine but not at a whim. Im yet to find an Australian crafter who actually paid for their Cricut Joy machine themselves🙄 I can't speak for other models. Im so indecisive it's driving me nuts 🤦‍♀️ Thankyou so much for your honesty🌺

I'm looking into purchasing a Cricut. I'm looking at either the Cricut Joy or the Cricut Explore Air 2. At the moment, I'm not starting a business but I want to start personalizing my dog bandanas. I believe I don't need any words bigger than 4in for an L/XL bandana. I think it would be a good investment to get the Explore but if I'm not going to use it often or just for iron-ons, then I feel I the Joy may be better. I also don't know what I would be doing in the future. I could save for the next one later or should I invest in the Explore now? Also I found the Silhouette Portrait 3 and thinking about that. I wanted to get your input on which one you'd recommend. I want to be sustainable so I'm also looking for a gently used machine which is a bit better for my budget.

The whole reason I purchased the very expensive Maker was that this machine was going to evolve with new products and upgrades. When the joy came out I was super annoyed bc thus far only 4 blades have been added to the Maker. Not very good customer relations here. I will not be purchasing the joy.

I think 4 different “blades” is a good variety tbh. The option to score, engrave, deboss, knife blade etc and also that it comes with the rotary wheel is great choice. The joy is a great little product that will appeal to some and not others. I have a Maker and don’t need one however if I travelled it would a great little machine. It has different positives but at the end of the day it’s up to each consumer to buy or not, personal choice! From a company point of view Cricut have got everyone talking which is free publicity

I'm super pissed, also, that now I see all kinds Joy-only projects in Design Space. I pay monthly and at $500 CDN for my Maker feel this is crap.

For me to want the baby cricut they would need to cut the price in half, and make my existing pens and blades compatible

I'm so glad I found this review. HSN had a sale today on the Cricut Joy and while it's a good deal and comes with a few other items I think this is not something I need. I'll stick to my Cricut Explore Air 2.

Years ago, my husband bought me the cricut imagine - which you are no longer to update - cost was $400. Even though cricut can put all my cricut imagine, I just have to send them a list. I wish cricut would look at the machines that they have and add on items, instead of another machine. I have the cricut explore and see no need to upgrade. I still have my cricut expression with all my cartridges. Thanks for the video. 🥰❤️💕🌹

Thanks for the honest review. I have the original Explore and I’ve worked it hard. It’s still in great shape and I said I would upgrade to the maker or maybe the Air 2 if/when it dies. Lately I can’t use it wirelessly only via USB but it will work when I send through my iPhone so go figure (?). Anyway, Target just had a special with the Joy at &169 with a &50 gift card with purchase (expired today). At that price I was willing to give it a shot. Not interested in the smart vinyl as I love using the mat for weeding so the smart vinyl is useless to me right now. Having all the supplies for years to use with my explore, I’m just looking to see how they work with the Joy which I figure I shouldn’t have any issues. The portability, sale price at Target and the card mat (something I’ve been curious about) is the reason I splurged today. This may well keep me from spending money on a new machine for another few years. Fingers crossed!

Totally feel you but I live in an NYC apartment and the Joy is the right size. Especially since I'm a newbie. Seriously if I walk in here with that big Explore or Maker my husband would notice it 🤣🤣😳 I literally have nowhere to put it. The Joy looks like the size of a Brother label maker. Inconspicuous 😁😁. Great video!!! Thanks!!!

Any suggestions on how to best use it for stickers vinyl and decals without investing in the subscription? Seems like the selection of items is small. How do you import to the app to cut without using Design Space on a computer? Is it even possible?
