If it starts to make noise, just replace it. Mine teared apart last week which caused the car to overheat, made the battery dead, and power steering went out. Trust me you won’t like to be in my position.

There are replacement intervals for every manufacturer but most people wait until something fails first.

spray some water on the belt and see if it temporally goes away, if it does the belt should be adjusted or replaced.

@@MotorcarnutI replaced Mines. Could it be the tensioner?
@Motorcarnut7 ай бұрын
@c.p.5741 Yes, or and pulley can make that noise. What you can do is take off the belt and start engine if noise is gone, you know it’s not the engine but one of the pulleys or the belt.

got my hyundai accent serpentine belt replaced at a jiffy lube & only 2 months later was screeching like a banshee all over again. how often do i need to replace it?? seems to be loudest when i start it or turn the wheel.
@Motorcarnut6 ай бұрын
Depends on the vehicle but every 25K miles is a good start. Maybe the belt is too loose or tensioner is bad.

So I had a new serpentine belt installed but its now squeaking (mostly on low revs and while turning). I am pretty convinced its the belt as was not here when i installed the belt. Could they have mis-installed it? Or somethign wrong with the belt?
@Motorcarnut8 ай бұрын
If it has a manual tensioner it can be too loose, if it automatic can be a bad. Also, make sure the pulleys are clean of any rust. If all good, it’s the new belt

I just slapped my new serpentine belt in but it still makes this noise, do you have a solution to my problem? Its a 2011 Ford Fiesta SE btw
@Motorcarnut8 ай бұрын
If the new belt is still making noise, could be the pulley or out of alignment belt. make sure there is no rust on pulleys as well.

so what can you use on the belt
@Motorcarnut Жыл бұрын
If it’s a serpentine belt and old it should be replaced, if it’s a regular belt with manual tensioner adjust it. Soap won’t last. If the belts are in good condition try cleaning them with lacquer thinner, take them off first.

My mechanic put me on a new belt and it still squeaks when I start it about his new do you think it needs to be tightened?
@Motorcarnut11 ай бұрын
If it’s not an automatic tensioner, then yes try to tighten to vehicle manufacturer specs or may have a pulley out of alignment.

4.8 L, took to a shop, new belt, tight and still squeals every morning on start-up. Belt dressing didn't help. tensioner?
@Motorcarnut Жыл бұрын
Sometimes it can be an out of alignment pulley or yes the tensioner can be weak even though it seems tight. Don’t put any of the belt dressings they don’t work. All pulleys and belt should be clean. Maybe try cleaning the belt with lacquer thinner and all the pulleys, may help.
