2:30 a very good look at how to handle the motors. Similar to pre-1964 slot car motors such as Atlas, Pittman and others.

I remember burning out the motor on the Tri-ang Caledonian 123 when I put a carriage-length load of solder in a carriage in order to make the loco slip authentically. It did for a short while before stopping and whiffing burning from the loco!

little tip, clean the backs of the wheels as well, and the contacts, best do those using the fibre pens to bring the copper contacts up nice

Hi Sam. I am a new subscriber. The Britannia class takes me back to my childhood in the early '60's. Great memories with my dad who has recently passed. My 70000 is in need of a new body. It had become damaged in the hands of a child. Namely myself many years ago. Sourcing a body in Canada is proving difficult. Have you any tips on suppliers? Either here or across the pond? Thanks for the great videos!
@SamsTrains7 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks so much for subscribing - I really hope you enjoy my channel! I'm sorry to hear about your dad, but it's good news that you're keeping his hobby going! Yeah, the Britannia bodies are particularly susceptible for damage! Unfortunately, it's just not possible to get these spares new any more, so your best bet is to look second hand - I'd recommend Ebay - I know tri-ang isn't as plentiful in and around the states as it is in the UK, but you might get lucky! Best of luck mate, Sam :)

Wonderful video Sam! Can you show us the loco's performance before the service as well as after? :)
@SamsTrains8 жыл бұрын
+Why Not? Thanks a lot mate! I could do that - but you wouldn't see too much difference since I do them every six months, meaning that they get serviced well before they get desperate! Also, with a new loco that hasn't run in years, I don't like to run it until it's had a service, otherwise the motor might get a bit cross. Cheers, Sam :)

Sam please may I ask how do you remove the armature on the x03/04 motor
@SamsTrains6 жыл бұрын
It's quite difficult - you'll need a gear puller to remove the worm, and then remove the magnet at the back to slide out the armature - nasty job! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

Sadly if you run a loco with a smoke unit without smoke fluid in you burn the smoke unit element and they’re £30 or so to replace... but if you don’t use them then that’s fine :)

Yeah that's right - though that's it, I don't use them any more really! Thanks for watching, Sam :)

@@SamsTrains there is one locomotive which I am currently using, the Hornby 2800 class which has the newer smoke box and my goodness I had to stop using it every ten minutes because the whole room was full of steam! It’s brilliant! Also am debating whether or not to buy the evening star, but I don’t like the ring field motors in the tender...

+Why Not? haha they do seem it a bit, but they're okay really, as long as your careful! Of course, I wouldn't be so rough if it was a loco with lots of delicate parts!

+Sam'sTrains fair enough. I bet some Hornby locos would look at that brush and fall apart instantly. ;)
