SESSION vs SHOWCASE: Gospel Drummer Plays to Ricky Dillard

Күн бұрынEdward Fanning Jr is a young drummer from Atlanta, Georgia. In this video, he differs how he would play music at a session or a church, from how he would play at a shed or showcase. This video teaches to be aware of where you are and who you are playing with as a drummer. You do not have to be extra flashy, only if and when the music calls for it. You can be allowed to go for it, but only when the time is right. He plays to 'He Turned It' by Ricky Dillard. Keep in mind that the original is drum heavy and the artist in the song does let the drummer have a good amount of freedom, so EJ is NOT overplaying in the SESSION section, that's just what the music calls for!

Oh to be 21yrs old again!!!!!!😒 So much energy!!!! Pocket and groove seems much easier to play now that i'm 51yrs old. I have to choose my spots when chopping now😞. I went from dunking on people to shooting fade aways😂😂😂😂(metaphorically speaking)

How to play for a session: good How to play for a showcase: better + occasional rhythmically interesting flourishes + occasional chopstorm In all seriousness, that was awesome! Must have been more warmed for the second take--was somehow even tighter in spite of having more going on.
