Check out the Fox Float X2 at Jenson USA: bit.ly/JensonUSA2022JKW
Anything purchased from Jenson USA will help support me and my videos- thank you!
Here are six easy steps to set up the Fox Float X2 rear mountain bike shock correctly! Proper suspension set up is critical for optimum bike performance and safety, so it’s worth some of your time to understand the shock and set it up correctly. This guideline will also apply to many other shocks with separate high and low speed compression and rebound adjustments, including those with coil springs.

Ha hahaha well four wheel dynamics are pretty different than two wheel! I built a prerunner Ford Ranger back in the day, though I couldn’t afford bypasses, it was cool seeing just how much the rebound affected body lean in the turns, as well as how you could double up the shims for firmer damping. Have fun with that sxs!

Great video as always. On the lower end Fox DPS shocks, you just have a rebound adjustment. I don't see it specified in the manual on if it's high speed or low speed. Is any of what you said about rebound applicable without the other settings to fine tune? Or should I just go by the setting that's in the Fox tuning guide?
@JeffKendallWeed
@JeffKendallWeed 6 жыл бұрын
Hey Dan, the DPS shocks just have a low speed rebound, as that is what you'll feel the vast majority of the time you're on the trail. Feel free to start at the recommended Fox starting point, and go from there if it feels off. Sag, rebound, and air volume are the most important adjustments for short to mid travel bikes, at least in my experiences.

Wow. That sounds like alot of air for your weight. I just purchased a 2018 mach 6. Im 175 lbs. I’ve got 150psi. I’ve only ridden the bike twice. The first time the rear end had no lift. The second time at 165psi. Better. Oh. I adjusted my low speed damper the second ride. And checked my low speed damper. And its about the same as yours. Hopefully this weekend it’ll feel better. Thanx for the video!
@JeffKendallWeed
@JeffKendallWeed 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Cat! I weigh around 160lbs, and I use a heavy back pack, but you'd likely need more air. However, shock pumps are not all calibrated correctly, that could explain part of the difference as well.
@catg9196
@catg9196 5 жыл бұрын
Jeff Kendall-Weed just rode it with 165 psi. And its awesome! I got pop and feels like good traction too. I checked my sag and its about 20-25% now. Before around 30%. Maybe my psi is different because the leverage ratios different from your bike? Dunno. Thanx again for reinforcing my decision on the low speed damper settings! Awesome!

When measuring sag, do you measure from the bottom or top of the dust seal?
@dcdavis9782
@dcdavis9782 4 жыл бұрын
The manual for the X2 shows to measure from the base of the dust seal, not the edge of the seal where you push the o-ring back to. But most other shocks you measure from the edge of the dust seal. The X2 seems to have a more substantial dust wiper, hence the slight difference in where to measure from.

@eezyteezy
@eezyteezy 5 жыл бұрын
Hey Jeff, hopefully you can please help me out. I have this Float X2 on my New bike and i believe the shock setup may he the reason why i cant jump anywhere near as well as my 3 other bikes. I set the sag and everything to the manual default clicks, and i feel like i barely get any lift off jumps and cannot clear the same gaps jumps i can on all my other bikes. Im now guessing its related to HSR based on what you said at 4:50. When you say "too much high speed rebound" do you mean too open or too closed? Thanks a lot, see you on Galbraith.

Hey Chris! The stock one is OK for the intended purpose of the Ripley, but I have seen a couple folks source and install a Fox DPX2, which is indeed available in the Ripley size. Are you running 2 volume reducers plus the red reducer?
@JeffKendallWeed
@JeffKendallWeed 6 жыл бұрын
That shock doesn't have the red reducer, but the red thing is just a limiter so you don't put too many reducers in there. The red thing doesnt change the volume that much, ive tried both with and without it.

Can you define "crank it all the way in"? Is that counter clockwise or clockwise?
@Xx3V0xX12
@Xx3V0xX12 2 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure it's clockwise since he said "that's not a lot of damping". So turn the dial fully clockwise and the count counter clockwise just as Fox also instructs on their setup guide. Commenting this out as it's a bit unclear in the video.

How do you know how many volume spacers you should have in it?
@spudvader
@spudvader 3 жыл бұрын
This is a bit late and you have probably figured it out by now but encase you haven't. It's just preference bud, just like your bike. It's set up for you and what you like, what makes the bike feel more confidence inspiring or playful or whatever. Personally I hate this answer because it doesn't give you anything to go off of but it's true. Take base settings from manufacturer and adjust to what you need

@@spudvader I'm 190 on an sb6. So I ended up just running full spacers. Sb6 is pretty linear. I've learned alot in 8 months 😎

Wait a minute... I have the Float X2, so I was excited to watch this, but... You mentioned that you can adjust the high speed compression & rebound, but you never showed it. I see the low speed compression & rebound adjustments, but I don't see any high speed. There's the climb switch, but nothing else. How do you adjust high speed compression & rebound?

I'm 17 stone/ 238lbs, I think I might be on the limit of this shock. I can get 30% sag on a Scott Genius, that's with 2 volume reducers. Hope this helps

@Michael ORM HSR?? Maybe you meant HSC?.. Mostly people suggest to play with HSC when having bottom-out problem.

According to FOX manual, SAG should be measured with dust wiper. Take a look :) That's why, in your case it's around 15mm instead of 14 :) www.ridefox.com/fox17/img/help/page556-T8A6/inline/FLOAT-X2-sag-rangea.jpg
