I have two reolink 520s with 264 (high profile), max bit rate of 8192, 25 fps and audio recording on both. With these two cameras including Shinobi are using 9% to 11% constant cpu use on my I7-6700K processor. Spaceinvader; thanks for video.

Regarding security, another very convenient option: you can setup a VPN server (e.g. Wireguard, there is a unraid pluginv for it) and let all outgoing traffic pass trough that tunnel. You don't have to set up TLS certificates, only to connect to the VPN server when you are remote. The only port you forward in the router, is the VPN port.

Just wanted to say after trying to figure out this docker to work with less false positives for over a week. You have to install the DeepS Stack Docker img and enable the deep stack plugin in Shinobi/super add IP of the Deepstack docker port 5000 in the edit config field.

I've found a solution to getting reverse proxy working with the container on a VLAN. In docker settings, you need to set "Host access to custom networks:" to enabled. After that was enabled, it finally works.

That does indeed seem to work, thanks for sharing! Would love to hear from Spaceinvader if this is what he ended up doing as well, cause it seems as though giving every docker container the ability reach into your VLAN is sort of counter productive from a security perspective. That said, I cant see another way of allowing letsencrypt to talk to the VLAN as well as the regular LAN without it?

Hi Ed, Nice how-to video as always! But I have a question and hopefully, you can answer it. With your shinobi conf file, the reverse proxy is working when I use the default LAN network. If I use my VLAN network what I create for my CCTV the reverse proxy is not working. Local access using the VLAN is working well. Do I have to change something else to let it work? I use the reverse proxy from Letsencrypt with Cloudflare as in your previous videos. In my docker, I select my VLAN network and set a static IP address. If I test the reverse proxy url I get the following error from cloudflare "Error 502, bad gateway"

I know this is a bit of a necro post, but I am getting an error saying there is no Database, do I need to set up a new Database in MariaDB to go with it? there wasn't really a mention of that. I see new info about encoding with an Nvidia GPU in the newer dockers and would love an updated video like this one that might cover that... hint hint pretty please

Great video and as usual, great step by step tutorial . . But: After setting up 5 cam's in watch only, 6TB Unassigned disk, my Ryzen 9 went up to 78% usage. I did not limit Shinobi to a certain number og cores/threads. Deleted again . . . .

This is fantastic! I just found this and was wondering if you looked at any cameras with pan/tilt/zoom features and how Shinobi works with those via browser/app for smart phones et.al. I would be thankful for a recommendation or two. I picked this up last night: "Cisco SG110-24HP Desktop Switch with 24 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) Ports plus 100W PoE, Limited Lifetime Protection" because it was such a good deal. Thoughts?

Is it possible to display all monitors in their original resolution or scaling and in the correct scale side by side without having to make manual adjustments? So if I have three cameras, that all three cameras are displayed in a row, but if one of them has a proportion of 16:9, the picture is also displayed that way and if one camera has a proportion of 4:3, or a different resolution, that the picture is also adjusted and in the end you get the right proportions.

Hey @Spaceinvader one If you go to Settings of the stream, and then choose "Stream" Change the stream type from Poseidon to HEVC (H.265) I seems to have resolved my h265 problem, where it was just black screen

Awesome, thanks so much; right in time when my CCTV system packed up and I make the switch to IP cameras! Perfect! Just one question; when I start up Shinobi under "Add Monitor" the left hand settings menu stops at "Control". It doesn't;t show "Custom", "Global Detector Settings", "Grouping" and "Logging". Any idea what is going on there? I downloaded your Docker. Thanks!

If you use base-10 units (like all drive manufacturers use), then 900GB = 900,000 MB. That’s GigaBytes and MegaBytes. If you use base-2 units (like most computer manufacturers use), then you math is correct for converting GiB to MiB. That’s GibiBytes and MebiBytes. Yes, the new names are insane, but that’s what was decided by the international standards association that sets these things.

been waiting for this video :( unfortunately I cant get shinobi to work with my onvif cameras. ISPY finds the URL and displays the cameras but when I copy the link directly into shinob I just get camera status died with no video. shinobi can successfully probe the camera but cant display it

for the me the new VLan is not an option for the docker. I set it in the docker settings and see it after the array starts but in the Shinobi settings it doesn't appear as an option. Thoughts?

You can skip all the hassle of installing a Windows VM to detect the camera's IPs if you use two NICs instead of a Vlan and install a DHCP for the second nic with a Docker APP. Then if the cameras are set to DHCP, which is a common setting when you take them out of the box, they will request an IP adress to the DHCP server. Once you have that IP adress then you can go to Shinobi and look for your camera.

Just researching this now three years after your comment - but it does sound like simpler way to do things. Presumably another NIC and going the DHCP route you describe would also mean I wouldn't have to fork out for a smart PoE switch i.e. a dumb PoE switch that only has cameras connected to it + the connection to the second unRAID NIC would do the job? What Docker App do you use?

@@julian.morgan Well, to be honest I just dropped my Shinobi project long ago. I went to an NVR wich turned out to be more efficient. Besides, Moe, the guy that wrote Shinobi is a real ass! However, I want to help you. If I recall well, I was running Shinobi with 2 nics because I wanted to have the cameras on one separate network and Shinobi was not detecting my cameras on my second NIC because they did not have an IP (and they were already installed on the roof of my house), so I went on Unraid's apps and looked for a DHCP Server docker and I got it running on the Seccond NIC to assign dynamic IP adresses to the cameras, Once with the IP taken Shinobi could detect them. But I can´t remember the name of that app/service that allowed me to do that. I was searching the apps in unraid and I couldn´t find it. I hope that helps you.

At 9'15" this is where i am stuck. My unraid was on vlan1 network and shinobi docker on vlan50. While webUI, i am not able to open the web page. Do i need to add firewall rules to allow vlan1 access vlan50 in the router/switch?

Thanks for this video. I've been wanting to do this for a long time. For someone who has gone the 2x NIC route. I enabled etho1 in the Docker settings and applied the IP Subnet as "192.168.5.0" and Gateway as "192.168.5.1". When I try to view the WebUI it opens the browser to the 192.168.5.XX which is not on the main network but the NIC that is plugged into my non-smart POE switch so devices on my main network can't view the Shinobi login screen. What exactly am I doing wrong? Thanks

if you have changed the network type in the docker container to Custom : etho1 you need to set a fixed IP address ie. 192.168.5.10 and that will be the IP for the WebUI. let me know if that helps

@@kelvinklein2734 Hi Kevin. I did do that. I set the fixed IP in the docker container for Shinobi similar to the example you gave. When opening the WebUI the browser opens and attempts to connect to that IP on the 8080 port. It attempts to connect but eventually times out a few seconds later.

@@ecaparts Hi Jim, Nope. I spent hours going back and forth changing settings in the back end and nothing worked. I even posted on the UnRaid forums and got a couples of ideas thrown my way but they didn't pan out either. If you make any progress please post back. I really wish the video would have done an in depth step by step for each route in building this system.

For the gmail setup, you can get use your regular gmail account and create an 'app specific password'. Go to myaccount.google.com Under Security->Signing into Google->App Passwords to allow it just to access your mail.

Stupid question. On my network, I use a 10.0.0.0 range for everything. Following this series, I popped 2 cameras into 192.168.8.0. I have created the VLAN and put the Shinobi Container into it. During startup, Shinobi cannot see the internet and cannot hit gitlab.com. This is because I don't have a gateway configured for 192.168.8.0. My asus router sits on 10.0.0.0 network. If I use another container to test using the br.50 vlan, it can ping other containers on br.50, but not the cameras and not the internet. How do I configure that vlan to access the internet and the cameras, even though they are on the same network. In your video, you have a gw of 192.168.5.1, which is also a dns server on your eth0 config. What am I doing wrong???

I tried to follow this tutorial, but it all fell apart around the 11:08 mark. First, Gmail no longer allows less secure app access.., but you can set up an app specific password. Okay, I tried that, but Shinobi will not allow me to login using the user account, either using my Gmail password or the app password. Presumably because of this Google change? But shouldn't the app password work? I don't see anything about this on the forum thread, but it seems like I see more questions than answers posted recently, so I wonder if this is dead?

Sooo, Got everything working nice, ty. However, IF i set the cameras default gateway to 1.0.0.1 Shinobi doesn't see the camera. When I Go back to normal gateway, camera gets access to internet (bad) and Shinobi works again. Any advice?

I changed the default gateway address to the same as the ip address of the camera which also did not work. Ended up blocking the WAN OUT pathway of the camera's IP address.

My Shinobi docker is only keeping 24 hours of video, what am I doing possibly wrong?

There is no motion zone settings on my version of Shinobi. Maybe time for an updated video?

I'm going to be honest, I used this for a little while and it just doesn't work that well. I switched over to Blue Iris and it works way better. I ended up actually paying the $70 for the full version and it doesn't use that many resources and has much better motion detection and also integrates well with my Home Assistant server via MQTT. It sucks that it's on Windows, but it works a lot better than Shinobi...
