I'm American, but these were my two favorite players. I lost it when Seve hugged Nick, in tears, at the 1995 Ryder Cup. It was huge for Nick to be appreciated by a peer of Seve's stature. Seve's style and passion inspired me to take up the game, and Faldo gave me hope that the swing could actually be learned. Two very different people and players, but both were great champions.

Always remember standing watching players warming up on the range, there was the usual buzz from the crowd watching these guys hit golf balls like rapier missiles with their caddies and coaches watching on, and suddenly everything went silent and you realise it's because Sevie had just entered the the range with his film star looks. There was some big names hitting balls at that time on the range but Sevie was a whole different level when he walked in to warm up. Never will I forget that moment. The Golfing public just loved him.

I grew up in the 80's watching Seve play some ridiculous shots from places no one else would ever hit a ball and yet he always came up trumps with his genius and bravery, and Faldo loved him, you could tell, 2 gladiators with completely different styles and personalities but both greats, and both inspired me to take up golf and I owe them both for what they gave to the game, legends.

Seve singlehandedly made the Ryder Cup what it is today...

I'm amazed to hear Seve ever went to the range. I just thought he rocked up, missed every fairway in regulation and then shot 6 under.

That putt by Faldo in the 95 Ryder Cup was as great a pressure shot as has ever been played.

Definitely friends. Seve won 4 of his 5 majors before Nick won the first one of his. Nick definitely looked up to him at least a lil bit in the late 70’s and early 80’s. They were both born in 1957 Seve first.

I like Faldo very much now. I am a Soaniard and he was Seve's great rival and back in the day I almost hated him. As many great golf champions, think of Hogan, he was not popular, in fact many say he was even displeasing. But to become as victorious did probably require that sort of character and that is why Seve came to be fond of him.

I saw SEVE at trophée Lancome in France when he was not that great player we knew before.... i can tell you that was incredible, the way he played in chip and recovering was just fantastic... BONJOUR from PARIS

That pitch between two bunkers was just absurdly good. Lol, to even have the guts to attempt that, in what looked like was the British Open, is just unreal. That ball could have gone anywhere, and he stiffed it. I dont think theres another golfer that even attempts that.

Oh Seve , it was either in the hole or the car park . He just gave the ball every chance . So different to the percentage players . I went a long way to see him play & practice . He taught me that it is better to play sport with a spirit of adventure .

These were 2 of the best players when I was 1st learning about golf. The sport lends itself to a singularity as an individual sport. However, respect is an unwritten rule of the game... or it should be. But golf is also entertainment to be enjoyed and Seve and Nick were fun to watch whether we like them or not (i.e. I was pulling for Norman at the '96 Masters.) I'm glad Faldo has showed his more personal character since he's become a commentator.

There hasn’t been a true golfing rivalry for years. Its a shame that nobody was really able to challenge Tiger during his best years. In Jack’s era he had Watson, Trevino, Miller, Player and Palmer just to name a few.

Seve was magical. If anything, in terms of wins he could have/should have won more if he were able to manage his game a bit better. But then he would not have been Seve. I find it a great tragedy that he passed on so young and early.

Not many people are “Natural” golf player’s at the top level.. by that i mean not pick up a club for 12 months and then first round shoot a 67. Seve could do that.. who else could? maybe Trevino at the very height of his career.. but really Seve was as close to a one off as there has ever been.

Here's what kind of guy Seve really was. According to Seve's caddie Billy Foster in the final round of the 1991 World Match Play in Wentworth, Seve choked and coughed loudly on a piece of fruitcake as NIck Price was hitting his second shot into the green. Nick pulled it into the left front bunker and hit it out to within 10 feet. Seve's caddie suggested to Seve that he should give the putt due to his distraction of Price while he was hitting his second shot. Seve would have nothing of it. Nick ended up making the putt, but if it would not have been for Seve's coughing, Nick might have hit it close to the pin on his approach shot and made birdie. This is unquestionably poor sportsmanship on Seve's part. Shows what kind of a player he REALLY was.

Nick Faldo was not in Seve's Class , Faldo was a boring player to watch whereas Seve was exciting to watch , his bunker play and putting and short game amazing , didn't like Faldo at all .

I saw him at the Houston Open in 1977 struggling to make the cut. He hit a shot on the par 3 16th on Friday and it plugged in the face if the bunker- fried egg lie is what they call it and I said to my friend he is done now- not chance he gets this up and down. Het got up to the shot like he had practiced it a 1000 times, he hooded a pitching wedge, took about a 3.4 full swing and and hit about 5 inches behind the ball- no follow through- just left the PW stuck in the sand- the ball rolled about 5 feet from the cup and he made the putt. This was pre cable TV, pre everything- greatest shot I had seen up to that time. He was a magician around the greens and the bunkers- that was just a precursor as to what the golfing world would see in the coming years.
