I’m so excited to present to you this third video in this series on how I made my wedding dress because now that the planning and preparation steps are complete, I can start showing the actual sewing process! From carefully marking and cutting out the pieces, to delicately gathering tulle with my fingertips and painstakingly hand basting and hand stitching each element in place, this video shows the process of constructing the bodice of this dress in detail and I hope you enjoy it!

This has been so helpful! I’m also thinking of sewing my own wedding dress and I was just wondering! Did you wash the fabric before you started using it? I usually do but given it’s a wedding dress I wasn’t sure if it was just the same?
@Sarah_Naomi

I'm so glad that you found this video helpful! To answer your question, yes and no - I didn't prewash the tulle fabrics because they were composed of totally synthetic fibers and I knew that they wouldn't shrink or be damaged from a wash after the wedding, but I did prewash the lining fabrics which were composed of cotton and silk fibers. So it all depends on the kind of fabric you're working with!

@@Sarah_Naomi ohhh I see! I'm planning on using polyester Mikado and I'm just worried that if I don't wash it, when I press the seems it will shrink.

Your wedding dress is looking so gorgeous and your not even finished with it. Also, what pattern is the blue dress behind you?
@Sarah_Naomi

Thank you! The blue dress behind me is the McCalls pattern M7947. I'll be posting the details of this one on IG soon and you'll see it in even more detail in my next video!

So curious as to why you have chosen to use the scissors over a rotary cutter? (Im just starting your video)
@Sarah_Naomi
@Sarah_Naomi 11 ай бұрын
Just personal preference!
@Northandsouthsewing
@Northandsouthsewing 11 ай бұрын
Right, I realized that about personal preference. I just wanted to hear more about why. I have been trying to decide if I want to invest in a wonderful pair of scissors and I currently use a rotary and cannot decide if i would really every use them. Mentioning a little more about it in a future video would be appreciated. @@Sarah_Naomi

Ah okay, I understand better now. There are pros and cons for both including grip, motion, and then what kind of projects you'll use them for, but what I appreciate about my Kai scissors are the micro-serrated blades that grip all fabrics really well (even the very shifty ones) and I don't need multiple sizes for big/small curves and corners or a big cutting mat like I would with a rotary cutter. But great idea, I'll maybe talk about this in more detail in a future video!
