We've had a really busy summer here at Sew Essential, but I've still managed to find time to learn some new sewing techniques. They are a brilliant way to add some interesting detail to an otherwise plain and simple garment. More importantly they are super easy to master.

I use my Pintuck feet for couching cord onto the cuff of a pillowcase. I use a slanted overlock stitch, single needle, and match the top thread to the cord, the bobbin thread to the fabric. My 3 groove Pintuck foot allows for heavier cords. I have 3, 5, 7, and 9 groove feet, but I haven’t found as many uses for the 9 groove one. I have also made corded Pintucks with a double needle by placing the cord underneath the fabric. It’s a beautiful treatment that can add a flare to more than just garments. I really enjoyed this tutorial. Thanks for the demonstrations.

Brilliant!. I am mermerised watching this well explained tutorial. The blue coloured thread and ribbon stand out as a soothing contrast against the white background. The ribbon embellishment with floral design is awesome. Thank you.

Your videos are always so informative. Before I knew pintuck feet existed I made Butterick 5997, a tunic with pintucks, using a single needle and either my blind hem or quarter inch foot. They came out pretty well but next time I'll definitely save myself time and hassle and buy one of those special feet from you. The demo was really useful, thanks.

So glad you found it useful Clare, there are so many feet like that which make life so much easier, but part of the battle is knowing they exist. Well done for managing pintucks without one though!

thank you for the great video on these 3 techniques. The spanish hem foot is especially interesting to use on lots of items in addition to clothing also! Moreover, I appreciate your teaching method very much! To understand the technique for me is with clear explanation and the visual aspect. I feel I can comfortably go to my machine now and try them out!

I didn't know about the posibility for a specific pin tuck foot, it looks so easy! I was wondering how you adjust the tension to have the fabric gathering up into a 'tuck' like that?

Thank you for the tutorial..I noticed you didn't do a reverse stitch at the start and end to lock the stitches?

I absolutely loved this video, I’m excited to try this, I had no idea how pin tucks were made. When using the Spanish foot, how would the edges of the fabric be finished off so as not to ravel? I’m thinking it would be fun to use this in place of pin tucking but the raveled edges would be insane, or does the stitching stop any fraying?

No one mentions what setting you need to change the tension to. My pintuck foot does nothing unless my tension is set on 9. Which seems extreme. What else do I need to do? I'm using sheeting on my sample. Bx

Wow!...thanks for this video, it was exactly what I was looking for (but couldn't find). Learning how to add interest/detail is what I'm after...I'm curious, with the Mexican hem, how well does that hold up to washing machines?...its it very fragile?...thanks!
@SewEssential
@SewEssential 5 жыл бұрын
So glad you enjoyed it! The Spanish hem stitch should hold up ok in the washing machine as long as you use a good quality thread.

i love those design features, esp the ribbon. i wanted to ask how you pick appropriate decorative stitch to work with spanish hem foot...is it any that zigzag or are they also particular to pfaff. i have a few heirloom stitches on mine but not sure if my needle would crash on the seperating bar. tfs:)

I've just spoken to Angela and she asked which machine you have and then we can give you a better answer. It would be heirloom stitches you would use if your machine is compatible with a Spanish hemstitch foot, but if you tell us which machine you have we can tell you more.

Sew Essential hello, hope you enjoyed holiday:) i have a kenmore elite which is quite old now and not on market. i do have stitches like your sample but i didnt see spanish foot listed in accessary list when i went through my manual or instruction in features sections. thank you so much for taking the time to look into it. ill be playing around a bit more with features on my machine, there's so much more than i thought:)

It was lovely thank you, always nice to have a break, but I'm glad to be able to get stuck into my sewing again now! Ok I'll speak to Angela and see what she thinks, but that isn't a brand of machine we stock. Her advice is pretty much always to have a play around and do test samples, which it sounds like you are doing, but I'll get back to you if there is anything else we can suggest.
