In today's episode, Becket looks at the lasting impact of Sigmund Freud's theories. Today's pop culture takes many cues from his obsession with sex. The effects of his ideas have enormous consequences on society.

ABOUT BECKET:
Becket Cook was born and raised in Dallas, Texas. He attended Jesuit College Preparatory
School of Dallas.
After graduating from Austin College in Texas, Becket moved to Los Angeles to pursue his
dream of writing and acting, finding success in both. He eventually went on to become a
production designer working with the top photographers and directors in the world on fashion
shoots for magazines such as Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar, and for ad campaigns such as Gap,
L'Oréal Paris, and Nike.

Finding a new sense of freedom in L.A., Becket also fully engaged in his new life as a gay man.
He had a series of many relationships with men throughout the next fifteen years.
In September of 2009, Becket met a stranger at a coffee shop in Silver Lake who invited him to
his church in Hollywood called Reality L.A. Becket reluctantly agreed to attend the service.
After hearing the sermon that Sunday, Becket was utterly transformed by the gospel and gave his
life to Christ. He also knew on that day when God revealed Himself to him that homosexuality
was a sin and that he could no longer live that life. Becket was more than happy to count
everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus his Lord.
Becket spends much of his time in ministry speaking at churches, universities, and conferences
helping believers (and non-believers) understand this issue biblically, theologically, culturally,
and personally. Balancing grace and truth when teaching on this subject is of primary
importance. His goal is to challenge the current cultural narrative about sexuality in general and
homosexuality in particular by demonstrating through his personal testimony and biblical truths
that, yes, homosexuality is still a sin, and that following Christ is infinitely more satisfying and
joyous.
He has lived all over the world in major cities such as Rome, Vienna, and Tokyo.
Becket graduated from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University in 2017 with a Master of
Arts in Theology.
Becket’s book, A Change of Affection: A Gay Man’s Incredible Story of Redemption, with a
foreword by Francis Chan, published by Thomas Nelson, released July 30, 2019.

My Uncle was a Medical doctor then went back to school in his 40's and became a proud agnostic Psychiatrist. My mother witnessed to him over 50 years and he would not embrace the message of salvation. She never gave up praying for him! In 1993 he ended up getting a non operative brain tumor and lost all memory of his anti God knowledge. He accepted Christ before he died! He was able to accept Christ by having faith like a child. All those theories he learned and embraced were out of his mind! Praise God! Never stop praying for people! God hears our prayers!.

@@elizabethoneill7239 That's incredible, my grandfather had a similar story. He was an English professor who left the faith and became vociferously anti-Christian (my mom became a believer on her own and he'd ask her why she followed "a tribal god like Yahweh"...if you can imagine a kindergartener being able to deal with such questions). Fast forward, we prayed for him my entire life until, late in his life, he had a stroke rendering him in a simpler state (more youthful if anything). He loved the hymns we'd sing and would worship along with us; a joy suddenly existed in him that never existed before and in those last years it was very clear he had a living faith.

I received my degree In Psychology; I had just become a born again Christian when I started my courses at the university. And I’m glad I had the spirit of the lord while going thru these classes. Some of the things Psychology is based on is nothing but junk. One thing I learned in my many years of study was what is deemed insane will one day be considered sane. And what was once sane will be deemed insane.

IMO Psychology is a subjective, shape-shifting, vacuous parallel religion for rebellious apostates. Look at the proliferation of societal sociopathy and the dissolution of the sacred family since the great falling away from the faith of our fathers was replaced with the spirit of anti-Christ at the root of secular psychology.

I earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice psychology and sociology 20 years ago. I remember in several of my psychology classes learning Freud's theories and was confused and repulsed, so I pretty much dismissed it thankfully. One of my favorite instructors then said in a lecture, "the only reason why we're here is because of sex!" He really believed that. And I just looked at him like...really? I grew up in church but I was not walking with the Lord when I went to college. I'd argue the birth control pill and sexual revolution catapulted the demoralization of America. This was all planned they knew america could only be destroyed from within.

My daddy (a precious, Godly man) was a minister until his death. My sister's son struggles in the homosexual lifestyle... (Well.. I'm not sure if he is actually struggling. He seems to have accepted it. He too is a designer. In NYC) But I think sexual confusion is caused by different things. Perhaps 3 or 4.. Or more?? But here is a short list: 1. Pre-birth. If that is the case, then the verse about God visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the 3rd and 4th generation might actually be at play. A burden for the seed line of the one who initiated the "curse" or struggle, yes... But God also says "There is no temptation that we will encounter that is not common to man, but God is faithful. He won't allow us to be tempted above that which we are able, but will with the temptation, make a way of escape -that we may be able to bear it." -I Cor 10:13 2. Molestation. At the point of sexual union, "The two shall become one". That is how the Bible describes marriage consummation. And as two souls bind, demons can then transfer. That is how the horrifically abused can become the same monster who abused them. And also how after the first homosexual interaction, the appetite can become insatiable. 3. Glorification of perverse forms of sex. Kids want to experience what is trending (and at times, just be rebellious )... and the demons are waiting to take up residence. 4. An emotional wound. A friend of mine, as a young child, found her mother dead from suicide. She craved a woman's love, and is now married to a woman. All of my homosexual friends have told me of deeply traumatic things that happened to them: molestation, no father or mother to love them... Except one (my nephew).. But his father and aunt were sexually abused by his uncle, so it seemed to be familial.

I majored in psychology in college University of TENNESSEE Knoxville December 1994 graduated and each psych class I took they always spoke of Freud and they would teach what his theories were but each professor never accepted his theories. They just treated him like he was one of the earlier psychologist but that his theories didn't apply in today's society. So, they took him with a grain of salt. I know Freud had a healthy cocaine nose candy habit and was screwing his female clients. Talk about unethical and would get his license suspended in today's world. It seems to me his narrative was being fit into his hedonistic lifestyle. To excuse his debauched actions. I definitely see the correlation between his theories with today's sexually perverted attitudes of all these stupid ridiculous terminologies to excuse perverted sinful choices these people make today. Taking God out of the classroom and out of people's lives will have a rude Awakening in eternity in hell the unrepentant. We need more people like you Beckett in Hollywood to change people bring them to Christ. Have you met Kurt Cameron and Ray Comfort? I think y'all need to get together to do projects spreading the word of Christ! God bless!

@@BecketCook Oh, I can't wait! I saw a clip on Ray Comfort's biography and his ministry and he lives really humbly doesn't own a fancy house and likes to ride his bicycle to get around most of the time with his little dog. He said well I'm a Kiwi and New Zealander's are into living simply. I wasn't sure if he was from there or Australia . I didn't know NZ were called Kiwi's. I learned something that day. The biggest thing he and his wife like to do as a past time is raising their chickens. It would be cool if the three of you teamed up on a mission trip together or doing local ministry. Do you remember that after Kirk got married he has never taken off his wedding band and he won't kiss another woman in a acting role. I think that is so sweet and noble of him. Have you heard of the magazine called Acts and Facts? www.icr.org/icr-magazines from the Institute for Creation Research organization. It is a free magazine. My husband is a mathematician and he's been getting it for years. What the website says (ICR's popular Acts & Facts monthly news magazine contains articles and information of current interest dealing with creation, evolution, and related topics. Current and past issues can be read online, and you can sign up to receive future issues, all for free.) I sent a subscription to be mailed at Chynna's Merch website P.O. address for Billy. You know them well and it seems like he needs scientific proof of God as the creator and figured maybe this will help him understand it more. I just thought I'd mention it if you haven't. It warms my heart seeing y'all being such a stronghold for Christ in a state that it is so secular. But that's where God needs you most to be witnessing to people gives me hope for this fallen world! Hugs my brother in Christ!

Hello Becket, thank you for this show and the warning about “Generations”. I don’t watch TV anymore, but an ad for a documentary from Netflix (ew, Netflix) coming out August 3, looks like a real lulu. It’s called “Pray Away” (as in ‘pray the gay away’). You may already know about it- just wanted to give you a heads up.

Latin: idiōta Greek: idiṓtēs. In ancient Rome this adjective was used to point out those who were not interested in debate, as well as to those who did not believe in God. You are correct on “idiot”Self=Id=lack of belief outside self. Thankful for Jesus that I don’t live in that cycle anymore! 🙏🏼

Literally I read Oedpius Rex in 12th Grade CP English and then when I was at a community college and taking Psychology 101, I was like SERIOUSLY(?!!) Freud is the Father of Psychology and he bases EVERYTHING on this Greek play by Sophcles.

The obsession with sex leads to things like the selfish gene, and this 'me,me,me' culture. What about friendship and love? How does Freud explain these. I'm guessing he thinks love isn't real either, like God.

Thank you for the synopsis! I think of Freud as a good example of someone who allows themselves to be given over to depravity at a level that all sense of healthy, reality based human interaction is lost. He was a tragic, demented individual.

The Joy of Forgiveness Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. When I kept silent, my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was turned into the drought of summer. I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah Psalm 32:1-5 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” Romans 10:8-11
