起源は縄文時代に遡るといわれ、山菅(ヒロロ)やマタタビ、山ブドウ蔓の自然素材で籠などの生活用品を生産している。近年産地では「生活工芸運動」により技術・技法の継承と自然との共生を目指している。
The origins of this ware are said to date back to the Jomon period (ca.10,000B.C.-ca.300B.C.) Household items are being woven from various natural materials such as silvervines and wild vines. In recent years, the preservation of the old craft traditions has been promoted under the movement of "Traditional Crafts for Everyday Use," with also aims at the conservation of natural materials and their native environment.

These videos are not getting the attention they deserve. Much appreciation for taking the time and effort to document these crafts in such a humble way.

Beautiful to see the combination of old a new, such as Olfa-style breakaway blades and the butane torch. This is more than simply being traditional craft, as in simply imitating the past -- this is a living tradition by incorporating what is new and useful, while still appreciating what has long worked.
