i just finished night of the dragon the other day, and the series has been lingering in my heart since then. it really sparked something inside of me, a bittersweet sensation of longing to go back to this world and experience it over and over. the characters are so incredible likeable, especially how naive and thought out yumeko is. the growth and character development of tatsumi is just amazing. all the characters are so believable and not gonna lie, i legit let tears flow reading night of the dragon. the experiences was so immersive and beautiful. the blooming relationship between yumeko and tatsumi is so pure and gorgeous, it really touched me.

I love this trilogy!! I agree with Yumeko and Tatsumi's relationship. It grows so well throughout. It has a lot of similarities to Inuyasha (anime/manga)

*!!BOOK 3 SPOILERS!!* The ending tore my heart apart. When Reika, Okame, Daisuke, Chu, and even Tatsumi died, I lost my shit! I was screaming at my book, begging Kagawa not to kill everyone, but she did! I cried so hard, and when Yumeko met up with Tatsumi at the end... wow, it was such a rollercoaster. I love this series so much. Nothing felt rushed, the world building was wonderful, and I love all the characters, even the minor ones. Okame, you're my man. 😢✊ (Edit): Also I love all the relationships in this book. Daisuke x Okame was literally so beautiful and the way they d i e d together?? I mean, I was hoping the whole "dog follows him unto death" would be a hurdle they could work around but nope! They died! And the but about their souls dancing excitedly together... oh hold on.. my tears are coming back. (I also adore the gay representation here. None of it felt rushed! Suki is best wingman!! ✊✊) Yumeko x Tatsumi was also adorable and I loved how they had this whole "I'll protect you" thing going on, with Tatsumi begging the Kirin to save Yumeko, and Yumeko during the final fight with her dad. I could go on and on but I'd be ranting lol. Poor Reika only had Chu in the end, but you know what? Girl got to go with the best boy in the series, and although their deaths made me cry, I was really happy that she and Chu will be reunited with their loved ones. It ends on an open note and I love that, since you can fill in the blanks and imagine a proper, happy ending for all these lovely folks.

I was so heartbroken after finishing this series, such an incredible journey. So much love for these characters and this amazing world. I’ve never been so invested in a series before❤️ Great review! I really wish more people were talking about these books!

Now my wishlist has three more books! Yay! Gotta save up now.

If you like shadow of the fox, please please check out the “tales of the otori” series. It’s also a fantasy series though more light on fantasy elements and set in country heavily inspired by feudal Japan. It’s one of my favorite series.

Ahh, I just finished the third book and this ending KILLED me 😭🙈 SPOILERS: I shed a few tears. I'm definitely with you on the hopeless romantic or die together part. I wanted them to be together soooo bad. They were perfect and every time they kissed I was ridding the swoon wave. 😂🌊 Ah, love them and this ending made me so angry. Like why?? I was also very upset about all of her friends dying. 😭 And then him too?? 😔 I want more to that Epilog, want to actually see them hug and kiss and come together again. 🙄 Oh, my poor heart. I'm so happy I read the book and at the same time so sad and angry that it's over that it ended like that. But still definitely a 5 star read. 😊

I bought Shadow of the Fox, book 1, after watching your review of it last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so that I immediately bought the other two books, which I have just finished reading, back to back, having finally got round to them a couple of weeks ago. It is a fantastic story, so fast paced, extremely interesting mythology and so heart-wrenchingly tragic. Thank you for inspiring me to read the first book and thus the whole trilogy.

Can't wait to get to this, I got it in the mail yesterday! I'm going to read Blood Rites and Dead Beat from The Dresden Files first, which will take about a week though. Also really great stuff in my opinion. I'm interested in how Suki and that one guy's storyline she's with (can't remember his name) who seems to be manipulating the characters like pieces on a chess board is going to play more into this final book. :)

I started reading this book recently and I picked this book up at a book store, because the cover and the synopsis sounds interesting to me. For me, romance is needed in a story because that's my favourite genre, so everytime before I buy a book, and I'm not certain if its have romance, I will briefly check the spoilers to see if there is romance lol. I started reading this on the weekend, and it really did took me a while to warm up to the story (it was kinda slow for me at first), but as soon as Yumeko and Tatsumi met, I started enjoying the story more because I like their dynamics and how they are opposites. I am especially enjoying how Tatsumi is distant and cold at first because that will give room for development and see how much he will change later when it comes to her. I stayed for the spoilers and I love what you said about your opinion on the spoilers lol. I guess an implied happy ending is better than a tragic ending. I will prepare my heart for that lol

This trilogy is everythingggggg. The Japanese inspired world and the Japanese words woven in the narrations and dialogs I loved. The way it’s told, specially the first one, reminded me SO MUCH of an anime, I could see Inuyasha episodes in my head when reading it. I loved loved loved the two main characters, Yumeko and Tatsumi!! And weirdly, really liked Hakaimono. The ending of these books killed me several times!!! Over and over again, I can’t believe I cried so much 😂. Also, I have a special place in my heart for Okame and Daisuke💖

Shadow of the fox is on my TBR for april for the OWLs readathon:-) I had no idea the whole trilogy is out already, man time goes so fast!

I just started reading Soul of the sword.❤ like they say third time is a charm so glad the third book sound satisfying at the end! Curious have you read Wicked Saint is it a good series to pick up? I've been hearing about it just not sure because of the mix reviews.

I picked up the first book after watching your review of 'The Shadow of the Fox'. I just finished listening to the audio book for the final book. SPOILERS: I really enjoyed each member of the main crew. They were all strong characters both as individuals and in their bonds with one another. Suki was a standout character for me. My favourite relationship was Okame & Daisuke. It was a complete surprise and I loved it. It was a more subtler relationship, then compared to the main relationship, but it was full of tender moments. Despite the foreshadowing, their battle scene was very touching to me. The finale had consequences and sacrifices and as a result, the victory feels well earned and this final book feels like a satisfying conclusion to an excellent series. Thank you very much for reviewing this series. I highly recommend this series for everyone to give it a try.

I've been a fan of hers since her first series when I read iron king. At first I thought I would hate it since it was put out by harlequin teen but I quickly grew to love the series.

This reminds me of the video game Okami, one of the most beautiful games I've ever played, and it's also bursting at the seams with Japanese mythology and folklore (like I learned A LOT about the different kinds of Japanese ghosts, demons, etc...)! You might enjoy it especially since you play Amaterasu, the Japanese Sun Goddess incarnated as a... wait for it... white wolf! ☺️

I read the first one and really enjoyed it so I need to get on the rest of the series soon!!!!!

I just tried to ask Google to play me Matsudas Shadow of the Forest, got this by mistake, and yet very glad I did. This story sounds amazing. Def gonna check this out.

I was nervous because the second book was really disappointing, but I finished the finale two days a go and was so happy with the way it concluded. Also, I totally agree with the "drowned infant" comment. I thought it was so jarring like the author was trying a little too hard to be dark and edgy.

Book 3 Spoilers! The beauty of Tatsumi and Yumeko meeting in the 100 year time jump is they just get to be together in peace. My heart broke when he died too, but that final line in the series I was just like yeeees now they get to be together without the wish and the scroll looming over them. Imagine if he had survived and had to deal with the aftermath of the Kage clan still wanting him dead, and the aftermath of that crazy war? Not to mention he was half demon and kept on talking about how he didn't belong anywhere, which when he started saying that I braced myself for his death but was still hoping it wouldn't happen. But, I think it's far better that he's reincarnated a hundred years later, in a time when him and Yumeko can peacefully be in love, have children, and grow old together because the wish won't be used again in Tatsumi's lifetime now. It just made me so happy they got to be together eventually, reminded me of the end of Inuyasha - but this entire book series reminded me of Inuyasha, really good read. Also the 2nd book didn't feel like middle book syndrome to me? For me if the 2nd book doesn't propell plot forward it feels like a waste and a filler, but Soul of the Sword totally kept the pace of the series and I really enjoyed it.

I cried for soooooonlong at the end of the third book. SPOILER ALERT IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE NOOKS BUT WANT TO DON’T READ ANY FURTHER. I both loved and hated how the book ended. The ending was a classic tragedy and it made me cry for so long.
