My daughter chose May pole dancing at her primary school as part of an extra curricular and on an open day, us parents got to try it. It was great fun

I had to do this at school, it's quite fun like barn dancing, and when done right can look quite cool.

I used to love the maypole dance at primary school. Little did I know I was part of the ancient tradition of Phallic fertility worship.

No it isn't - Victorian twaddle. Nothing to do with fertility rites or any such nonsense. Simply a focal point for the community.

People who allow archaic dogma created by False Religions to dictate their lives have far less fun than those who simply Follow Source. Pagan simply means of the Earth. Just because a ritual is "pagan" doesn't invalidate it or make it demonic. The Maypole Dance was about learning chivalry and courtesy to your fellows, as well as being a fun way to meet, greet and, yes: court your potential partners. However, in today's society, we need the lessons in chivalry and courtesy more than ever before.

@@crptnite The maypole dance was about young people of the opposite sex holding hands, circling the maypole and having a good time. 'Dance about both in and out, Turn and kiss, and then for greeting' (1630).

Thanks for uploading this, I love these fascinating old traditions ❤️ I've set up a little May festival area on my Animal Crossing island, complete with May pole (repurposed vaulting pole) 😁🌷

Delightful! I missed the maypole dance at a party I went to today, and unlike the first two videos I tried, this was a good substitute. :D

Oh friend, I did this at the Shire before the pandemic. We were forced to leave NZ when the country locked down. Everyday I miss the Shire. That May Pole is so full of love and life in my memory.

I think it is fine for anybody to enjoy participating in an activity of another culture without anybody starting to point fingers about where it came from. Having fun this way is healthy. But ai did go to this Renaissance Festival in Sterling Forest and this is not a good place for kids. There is too much sexualization and the kids felt uncomfortable and they also complained that it was an open air shopping mall where if you wanted to participate in half the stuff you had to pay more. And there were creepy folks swaggering around wearing leather and chain outfits that kids shouldn’t have to see.

Ist das ein Mittelalterfest? Der Bandltanz ist ein ja Bestandteil des Volkstanzwesens. Hier ist sowohl Musik wie "Text" schon nach einer Minute langweilig.

I don't understand what you mean here? Not trying to fight, genuinely confused. They're being respectful, doing a traditional dance. Tho some of the clothes aren't quite right, they aren't appropriating, they're appreciating. Maypole dances exist all over the world in different cultures, with different names.
@cjsluiter1917

@@chloevanwyk2356 I think they're making a joke. Like "you're appropriating germanic/Anglo/Scandinavian/Western European culture. Haha" (when clearly they're not, or if they are, no one cares)

I personally don’t think this is cultural appropriation because maypoles have been seen in many cultures. For example, in Paganism this tradition is part of one of the holidays. They also don’t seem to be disrespecting the dance and they look like they are having fun
