That’s why this episode is so bittersweet! the flashbacks only to see them breakup in the end 🥹 the new werewolf Bat is actually a character from the books! don’t know if you saw but in the one scene where magnus is looking out the window at the rain he’s actually holding the Omamori Charm that Alec gave him but now Jonathan’s cover is blown he can’t go back to the institute again , only two more episodes before season 3!

Sooo quoting Taylor Swift "Said, 'I'm fine,' but it wasn't true". Yeah... THAT WAS A LOT going on. Picking up the thing I left with Max, that im sure someone is gonna explain it better than i can. Max actually dies in the books by Jonathan's hand. And I was so relieve that the show decided to not go in that direction simply because I can't bare the thought of Alec and Izzy grieving their little brother. So that's FINE. But then the show had to hit us with a TRAIN of Malec flashbacks just to shred our hearts into tiny little pieces of angst. If this had you unwell, I'm sure you are not going to be prepared for the next season. None of us were. FYI my hands were so cold, and I was crying during the entire episode. We need a recovery group after this 💜

Okay so this episode was A LOT. I remember sobbing when I first watched this. So I thought it was only fair to give you painful not-so-fun facts to match with the theme of heartbreak in this episode. Starting off, Max. Dear sweet Max thankfully survived the attack from Sebastian. I wish I could say the same happened in the book, but unfortunately that was not the case. Sebastian k!lled Max before a battle in Alicante began. With the way he did it, it was not possible for him to survive. We didn’t see Alec grieve much, because he forced himself to be strong for Isabelle, who was absolutely wrecked after her little brother died. Simon helped her through her grief, though. Next, Magnus and Alec. When Magnus and Alec broke up in the books, it was for a very different reason. Alec was upset that Magnus wouldn’t share his past with him. Alec believed Magnus’ long past was what made him, and that, being in love with each other, he deserved to know some of it. So when Camille found out (she had not been taken to the clave in the books), she manipulated Alec into going behind Magnus’ back, in exchange for information about his past. After a while, Alec refused, but Magnus found out (Camille told him) and he broke up with Alec. Partially because he felt betrayed, partially because he knew that if he stayed with Alec, it would be unfair to keep hiding his past, and he was not ready to talk about it. As they were breaking up, Magnus said this: “Softly, Magnus said, ‘Aku cinta kamu.’ ‘What does that mean?’ Magnus disentangled himself from Alec's grip. ‘It means I love you. Not that that changes anything.’” After they broke up, Simon, Clary, Maia, Luke, Jace, and Isabelle all tried to call Magnus to get him back together with Alec. Mainly because Alec asked the to, but also because they felt bad for both of them. Jace, Simon, and Isabelle even showed up at Magnus’ apartment. Isabelle went as far as saying that the Institute cat (Church- an immortal cat that lives in the institute) and Magnus’ cat (Chairman meow), were in love, and it was cruel to separate them. Maia’s backstory- while completely heartbreaking, is super accurate to the books, which I appreciated so much. Also- talking about the flashbacks- as I promised, there was the flashback of Malec’s first night, and your reactions were PERFECT lmao. The song that played in the background (wide eyed by Billy Lockett) PERFECTLY reflects their break up in the books. Especially the lyrics “How long will I blame it all on past life tragedy?/There's no remedy.” I definitely recommend giving it a listen. I also totally think you should listen to the song in the next flashback, which is Where’s My Love- the acoustic version- by Syml. Both of them are some of my favorite songs. Oh and the song during the break up is called Brave by Pearce, which is another great song. Also at 10:10, Magnus’ face after Alec says “shadowhunter” Omg. Perfect. I fixated on it for ages. Congratulations Ryann, you made it through one of the most heartbreaking episodes in Shadowhunters. I’m proud of you.

been waiting for your reaction to this one! this is one of my fav episodes of the show! there was just so much going on!! poor max, and jonathan is such a snake, it really sucks to see jace, alec and izzy so upset over max this ep they really love him the acting from emeraude who plays izzy was so good, so glad jonathan never got a chance to finish the job love to see luke be an absolute badass, russell is such an idiot and I couldn’t stand him, I feel like luke is a little underrated in the fandom poor maia we finally get to hear her backstory the fact that her first love someone she trusted turned her and then left and ran away and didn’t help her at all? I think it makes sense now why maia was hesitant to date simon and if anything jonathan is a good fighter, wonder who would win between him and jace since they were both raised by valentine 🤔 good on clary for figuring it out and being a badass and escaping from him also maia and simon were cute this ep🥺 loved seeing them be together for poor bat and now we know the mortal mirror is lake lynn !!! now let’s talk about itttttt !! magnus going through their flashbacks as they went on it hurt more and more, not you almost crying at the first one 😭 malec really got me this episode. you pausing before the malec first time scene was so me I pause stuff before it happens too bc I need a second to prepare myself lmao your panic is something I relate to all too well, it was so so sweet they have such amazing chemistry and when alec said “they’re beautiful, you’re beautiful” I wanted to cry happy tears, your reaction was so good. then them laying in bed together the next morning oh my heart the song as well is so good had me tearing up, you crying too I totally understand 😭🥺 then the transition from their hands to them in the present oh it took me out, I hate their break up scene it hurt so bad you seemed so scared like same. I hate that this has come between them got a lot in store the next two eps!!

Ah yes, we've made it xd. Welcome to the living in denial club - it's the only way to make it through :). Saving Malec thoughts for the end lol, Maia is amazing in this episode :'). Seeing her come into her own a bit by helping someone else through their transformation is so great
