@arthas6406 жыл бұрын
i know its dumb, but i always judge people who crack their egg into a ramekin first. Maybe its because i grew up on a small farm with a ton of chickens, but i've been able to crack an egg without breaking the yolk or getting shell in the egg since i was about 10. The ramekin trick was something i did as a little kid. I break the yolk or get shell in there maybe less than 1/20 times.

I actually made this a couple days ago for my family and I and it turned out awesome. The mushrooms were a great addition and added some savory juicy flavor to the whole dish so I'd recommend anyone to add mushrooms as well. I also added a cubed gold Yukon potato in the beginning of the saute with the onions and mushrooms. They're less starchy than brown potatoes so they kept their shape and were nicely done once the whole affair was finished. They definitely add some hearty elements to this otherwise primarily acidic dish, not traditional and more of a personal preference but it was a nice addition overall. Just make sure to saute them in the very beginning with the onions and mushrooms otherwise they'll be under-cooked. I also baked slices of french loaf with garlic butter to act as our toast, not very traditional whatsoever but I couldn't argue with the results. Only thing I'd say is if you want a spicier result, keep the seeds in your jalapeno (I didn't and really wish I did) and maybe even add some chili flakes to your saute'd veggies if you're feeling frisky. Easily one of the most flavorful things I've ever made, 10/10 would make again.

I love these videos. You have a great voice and unlike most food vid these are not OVERPRODUCED! I hate long intros and excessive cuts and music and junk. Really nice vids. Ditto on the wooden spoon though, the plastic one isn't good hahaha

I hate added music too

made this a few times with the basic recipe. But then i tried with some chorizo, which you start off with before putting the onions in the pan. It is ridiculously good.

So who else did a search for Chef John and Shakshuka after seeing his brand new post of "Shakshuka for One?" I watched that, and thought it was amazing, as most of his recipes are! But...I live in a household with three other hungry adult guys and as much as I wanna make this, I needed to know how to scale it up! Well.. here it is. I can't wait to try this recipe this coming weekend!

thank you Chef John! I'm somewhat new to cooking and I've never had Shakshuka before but I made these for my boyfriend (who has long lauded his old housemate's shakshukas) and he said it's the best shakshuka he's ever had, and called it "a shakshuka he'd be telling family about". Yay! I used two birds eye chillis (we love spice) and used a middle eastern spice mix because I ran out of cumin. I was worried it would be too spicy (for my boyfriend. I'm Indian so I'm immune) but it was perfect and not very spicy at all! The mushrooms are genius, they fit right in. The whole pot disappeared in minutes. Thank you!

Just made this for the first time!! I cut down the spice a little bit because my boyfriend is a wimp, and it was still pretty much the best thing I've ever had. Will definitely make it again

I love this - but you totally missed garlic.

Because it's not a part of the recipe, genius.

It tastes better with garlic

6xArcaNumx6 Avoid garlic with eggs - it can make them taste bitter. Eggs go better with onions.
@afreen92885 жыл бұрын
sunspot42 Maybe is per taste, the original tunisian recipe is onions, tomato, red pepper, cumin and garlic. and it is delicious
@thames215 жыл бұрын
sunspot42 garlic makes eggs bitter, what? Are you overcooking your garlic?
