Shakshuka 🥘

Ingredients
- 1 red capsicum, diced
- 1 brown onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, finely diced
- 2 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tin whole tomatoes and 1/2 tin water
- 5 eggs
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Bread to serve
- Small bunch parsley, finely cut to garnish
Method
1. Start by sweating down your onions and garlic over medium heat in oil.
2. Add your diced capsicum, spices, salt and pepper and sauté for 5 minutes.
3. Add the tin of tomatoes to the pan, then fill the tin halfway with water and add that as well.
4. Cook this for 7-8 minutes before making small wells and adding your eggs.
5. Cook this on medium-low heat until the egg whites are cooked. This should take roughly 5 minutes.
6. Garnish with parsley and serve with toasted bread.
7. Enjoy!

Respectfully they are not the same. Shakshuka is made with red peppers while Menemen is made with green peppers. The eggs are poached in Shakshuka pepper sauce while with Menemen the eggs are incorporated into the entire dish. Both are incredibly delicious dishes to enjoy. You can't go wrong with either one. Hope to visit Türkey in the future to enjoy an authentic proper breakfast.

I’m British born Pakistani and for me the food of Pakistan Yemen Iran Kurdistan and Turkey is the best, but yeah the Middle East and south Asia’s cooking techniques are the best, not always the healthiest, but in terms of taste.. the best.

To anyone who says it's not Shakshuka - it is. It is a Tunisian and Algerian dish (you can also find it in Libya and Morocco, North Africa for short) originally and today it is also a well-known Israeli dish, which consists of eggs that are cooked *whole in a hot tomato sauce* and eaten hot. the name comes from Amazigh (Berber) language and it is a word that means mixture. You are not supposed to scramble the eggs in the sauce like many people here say when you cook, but eat them like an Sunny side up and you can use fresh or canned tomatoes and eat it hot! You can eat it cold, but it's less fun, and usually everyone eats cooperatively from the pan and the amount of eggs is equal to the amount of people eating so everyone gets an egg. Just because you know it by a different name or a different preparation or eating method does not mean it is not Shakshuka.

It is a Turkish dish actually. Because all those countries were under the realm of the Ottoman Empire for hundreds of years, so it is quite understandable that there were some cultural exchange and now there are variations of these dishes around.
