Comparison time. Not to say one is better than the other. Just a fun coupling of two great videos with the same song. I first thought I hadn't seen or heard this song, but I did at the PTX concert. This video made it stick in such a fresh way. I really LOVE this comparison.

Lady Gaga is this generations Cher (not that Cher is done with the world yet). I didn't listen to her back in the Monster Mother day and only found her when she started more classical music. Pentatonix is … well they're Pentatonix... They could cover Twinkle Twinkle little star and win a Grammy. I refuse to choose between. They both bring tears to me.

I haven't seen the movie either, but have heard from friends that Cooper and Lady Gaga were excellent in it, and the song (apparently as done in the movie) was great. Love the PTX interpretation as well. I've noticed that Kirstin has really been rocking her lower register lately, and when she belted out the higher part it gave me the goosebumps. :)

So glad that you did a comparison video on this because it really shows Kirstie’s talent. She at least matched, and in my view surpassed, Lady Gaga’s performance. Incredible. She has come such a long way since the Sing Off days. I think her stint on Broadway really boosted her confidence and she is starting to tap into her true potential now. It is still a marvel to me that these supremely talented artists all came together in one group. What great good fortune for them and for us.

I did the VIP thing and in the Q&A before the show in Orlando this past Saturday, Kirstie said this was her favorite song to sing right now. You can tell she loves it because she is FIRE. It really got me when I watched this first today, like really crying, when I saw the real tears in her eyes. You see that facial expression, like there is real sorrow in her face. She must really have got into this in the performance. Is there something in the real world she could relate to? I really felt like this was something very, very special to her. Either she can act really, really well or this was real sorrow in her during this.

1st, let me say that both vids were great...2nd, to say that Scott outsang Bradley Cooper was always pretty much a given, even tho as you commented, I had no idea that Bradley could sing like that...BUT...when Kirsten outshined Gaga (which I thought she did) that’s HUGE!!! Gaga is an immense talent! I think you are correct, Kirstie has barely scratched the surface of where she’s going!!! That being said, pretty much can be said of PTX as a whole AND individually 🧨

The high point of this song towards the end was another one of those "wall of sound" moments like the end of Imagine, where there is so many beautiful sounds perfectly built up and blended until you think you can't take any more beauty. Kevin's skill on the cello added so much and the arrangement was flawlessly gorgeous. I had the same astounded expression you did listening to this. I agree with everything you said about Kirsten too. She has become a force of nature, maybe she always was one. What a song! Thanks for the Cooper/Gaga version too. I always enjoy your comparisons :)

You are correct. After Kevin played his solo with the cello, they went right into this song. I saw them 3 days ago. I met them last year but not this year because it was a last minute decision to go. And I absolutely LOVE the song from the movie and did not know PTX was gonna sing it and as soon as I heard Scott singing it, I started to cry...I was so excited, then they dropped the video the next day. And I agree, Kirstin is just scratching the surface. I think that ever since she was in Kinky Boots, she has gained so much more conidence in herself and her talent. And Scott...killing it as always!

I was absolutely blown away by Pentatonix’ version of this song. What each of them brings in their musical talent to this group really blended well into a beautiful composition with this song. Each of the members in this group has an incredible voice all on their own, but when they come together on a piece they are just simply a force to be reckoned with. And the music that they have released this year shows that in every single song. I can’t wait until the rest of the album is released! Jerad, great job as always. Glad you got to see them when they were here in San Antonio. I bet it was a great concert. Have a great day!

She is like Mitch in that when she is happy and On, you can't take your eyes off her. The movie A Star is Born came out in 1976 and the stars were Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, haven't seen the remake yet, but the older movie was great. Kirsten in this song just blew me away, she just keeps getting better and better. To be fair there were two that came out before 1976, one in 1937 and one in 1954 but never have checked those out at all.

I loved the choice to film this in black & white, with bits of gold hinting at color. I feel weirdly connected to the ORIGINAL movie watching this video in the color choices. It's a bleak, utterly depressed place that the male lead has his head in.. with the bits of joy breaking it up by the female lead who not only does he discover, encourage and mentor... but loves as well. His world is void of color.. she shines and it does put tiny bits of warm, sunny gold in his life.. some peace and joy. Kirstin has really took the bull by the horns when she was on Broadway! She found her confidence and self-image! She said she has never felt so much like her real self as she did in the present when she was doing her 2nd stint of "Kinkyboots" Her vocals have always been so sweet and powerfully emotional when appropriate. I love her voice, and it's just getting better. I'm really proud of her and happy for her! I loved hearing what you had to say about meeting her. 😊 That's awesome.! Scott knew how to sing this one. I knew he would! I'm talking too much.. just two more things. I promise! I felt that the music video with Bradley Cooper and Gaga didn't have the vocal emotions that Gaga had excellent acting for what that character was doing right then. And it was really good acting , but unless you see the movie, you don't realize that it's not really an emotional song at that part of the movie. It's more of a break the ice and get the guts to get up there moment. And I definitely got that from her acting whereas Scott and Kirsten took me to the emotional warzone that was going on in that movie. I knew this song when I heard Pentatonix singing it in concert. And I knew where it came from because I saw the original movie when it came out starring Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand. It was an absolutely Epic Movie! And can you imagine the vocals?! It was just a killer soundtrack. But that movie ripped my heart out and made me cry. LOL it really affected me for quite a long time after seeing the show. Kind of like how everybody was affected by Titanic. all I know is when I heard Pentatonix singing it somehow I knew how the words went and was singing along. And then when they said it was from A Star is Born I was like that must be why I know it because I love the music in that movie. I really don't want to watch the new one because the original was such an emotional trauma. But like the 70s, in this present time in America we have the same issues that people are battling so the movie is appropriate for modern times. It's too bad that it's appropriate again. I guess we just don't learn our lessons do we? Okay now that I depressed everybody I'm going to say good night. 😂!

Cooper was on an episode a few years back of "Inside the Actor's Studio" where he was interviewed by acting teacher James Lipton, in which they discussed the number of musicals he did in high school and college. The song (and Gaga) also received an Oscar for the best song of the year. And Kirstie is freaking amazing!

Every song Pentatonix releases is better than the last, and every time I think they have reached the top of their game, they exceed it. Thank you thank you thank you. I don't know why, Mitch has got a beautiful talented voice, but when I hear all of these people who say they wanted to hear more of him in this song, it somehow just got to me. This is a couple song basically, Kirsty absolutely killed it, in fact better than Lady Gaga in my opinion. Kirsty was singing her lower register, and then came up with her power notes, she is so strong with her power notes and her belting, her power her breathing her technique, and her heart her feeling she puts into her music, just means I can't help but love to hear her sing the female parts naturally.

I prefer the PTX version. I think Scott has a much richer voice and Kirstin has much more emotion in her voice. She really let it rip! Also the addition of Mitch's "for change" just adds so much more depth to the song and he really nailed the harmonic run with so much more emotion and a much cleaner richer tone with a growl punch at the end of his part. This brings tears to my eyes every time. SO, so good. There is so much more energy and intensity with PTX. Definitely an UPGRADE.

I've said it before--Kirstin's singing has been outstanding from the start but she has grown SO much, dating more or less from her stint on Broadway. Coincidence? I admire Lady Gaga, but Kirstin's performance here doesn't lack one iota in comparison. This track is awesome, and I don't use that word lightly.

Kirstin has always been an incredible singer. Since her stint on Broadway, though, she seems to have...I don't know, grown into it? I don't know how to describe it but she's on a whole new level. I don't fangirl Lady Gaga but I'm a serious admirer of her singing. I'm accustomed to saying about Gaga, "Now listen to a REAL singer." I honestly can't say that Kirstin's performance suffers at all by comparison. (And Scott--well, HE's the "real singer" to Bradley Cooper, even though Cooper did very well.) Sorry for all the rambling; it's 3:56 am.

Seeing(later) that you are an Acapop Fan, their versions of Bohemian Rhapsody and Shallow should be appended to the pentatonix/original comparisons. Not even. Kirstie and Scott have known each other their whole lives and gave this song the emotion it deserved. Gaga and Cooper were just two movie characters singing to each other.

The movie wasn't great in my opinion. Great music and Gaga was great but the script was full of clunkers. Scott is a much better singer than Bradley so the comparison is kind of unfair there. Gaga is a singer and wrote the song but I much preferred Kirstin's vocal here. Of the three versions of this movie I put this one last. The Judy Garland version is my favorite and I like the Barbra Streisand version better too. The Streisand version had Kris Kristofferson as the male lead and he was far and away the best singer in the male role.

I'd rather listen to Kirstie sing a muffin recipe than Lady Gaga sing anything.

I am not saying that Kristen is better than Lady Gaga, but in this song I like Kristin better, and I hear the Pentatonix first, I didnt saw the movie, didnt hear the song with Lady Gaga, I didnt after hearing the Pentatonix song, so maybe beacuse that I lika that version better, I am not sayng that the Lady Gaga and Cooper is bad, I just like it more, is a beautiful song

My second fav of PTX. Lady G. is this generations Madonna, marginally talented, puts herself over with flash. Bradley Cooper???? C'mon. He probably worked with a voice coach for weeks for this garage-level performance. Gaga and Cooper also had the emotional punch of the movie working for them. For pure musical talent, PTX exists in another universe than these pikers who need to sit down, shut up, and go home.
