The manga from shaman king is such a masterpiece in my opinion Im so hyped for the anime remake, its insane

I loved this anime, I don't think people give it enough credit for accurately capturing the aesthetic and atmosphere of the setting and characters. There were a lot of things I think the anime did better than the manga and I hope the remake keeps the best parts of both.

It would be hard to argue that the shaman king english dub is good, but... The dub theme tune is amazing.

If there's one thing from the anime I would want put in the manga, it's Mineta becoming a shaman with Mosuke as his spirit. I really liked that.

I much prefer the manga ending mainly because negotiating with the villain feels more unique than ultimately killing them. What I mostly like about it is the aftermath and (obvious spoilers ahead if whoever reads haven't finished the manga) the toll that goes with convincing Hao to not destroy humanity which is that the 5 warriors (or mainly Yoh & Anna) have to redeem mankind as a whole. Linking Yoh with Aang is an interesting comparison I haven't thought about. It does remind me of something I've been wondering about, which is whether or not the manga's ending is a deus ex machina (refering to Hao's mother's appearance as it seems to be what truly convinced Hao). Some people argue that the lion turtle's Appearance in Avatar is deus ex machina, which I can't disagree with. That said, I still like Aang's victory method.

The anime is piece of my childhood and the manga is piece of my adolescence. Regardless of that, both (especially manga) are masterpieces to me. Both are full of amazing thoughts about importance of respect for nature, importance of friendship, importance of seeing the good in all people, the uniqueness of all people, and most of all about importance of our dreams and strength to reach them. Can't wait for the remake!

I like the anime ending, we've seen Yoh redeem nearly everyone he's met, helped them in some way, big or small, but there are people that can't he redeemed and showing Zeke/Hao lose right after throwing away everything and everyone who cared about him, essentially becoming a monster both inside and out (inside as in his own soul and outside as in the Spirit of Fire changing, as Zeke/Hao himself doesn't change in appearance) accentuates that he doesn't want to be redeemed, nor will he allow that to happen, in a way forcing Yoh to do the thing he doesn't like doing, and that's taking another's life.

Netflix picked it up and it isn’t that bad tbh I enjoy it

i agree that shaman king does need a remake but i respectfully disagree with the fma03 ending thing sure the ending is a little complex but if you look at the foreshadowing of it throughout the series and how the philoshiser stone works it truly is a good plot twist but i do respect your opinion and i love both versions of fma and shaman king both Are goated

I like the ending to the 2001 anime but I totally called everyone giving Yoh their energy before it even happened. I also think the anime gives us a terrific moment when Hao eats Yoh's soul. Its one hell of a cliffhanger to end episode 61 and it was refreshing to see Anna show an emotion other then anger and cynicism. I finished the dubbed version of the 2001 anime for the first time two months ago, just as the remakes first season hit Netflix, and it actually made me sad. Finishing it left me with a sense of emptiness as I had grown to love the characters and the performances given by the dub cast. Yes some of the dub cast have returned for the remake which is great, but Sebastian Arcelus' Yoh and Hao, Sean Schemmel's Amidamaru and Ryu and Andrew Rannells' Ren were all really great and I thoroughly enjoyed them. Arcelus' performance as Yoh in particular helped make me love Yoh as a character more then I would have just by watching the remake or watching the 2001 anime subbed. It made it hurt more that the 2001 series ended on a cliffhanger with Yohs oracle bell buzzing but knowing nothing would ever come from that tease. The 2001 anime might have a fair amount of filler and it might deviate from the manga, it might have stupid dub changes and it might have made Lyserg a intolerable douche, but I still loved it. Its not perfect, but its got to be one of 4Kids best dubs and its a adaptation I will remember fondly. And that 4Kids opening is a fucking banger. I'm just glad I found Shaman King after the remake was announced and not back in the 2000s before the remake was ever in the works.

3:40 I actually don't mind that sort of filler. Unlike in One Piece where it can grind the story to a halt during important moments these make it feel more natural. They are going on a journey and the filler episodes just show that journey rather than it being implied. I also think it gave Lyserc a much more natural progression as a character. As a teen I loved that about Shaman King. That it didn't rush through and wasn't afraid to take it's time. Many anime today could benefit from that I feel.

i think the manga has an amazing ending. i always thought it was impossible to beat hao after he had like over a million feriyuko or how ever its spelled. he had a god like spirit and he mastered all 5 elements and lived 2 life times before. he was obviously going to becoming shaman king but watching yo and his friends try to climb their way to the temple before hao awakens was dope. the fight in the other world was also amazing. the ending of the anime is amazing as well but it doesnt solve the issue of dealing with hao who will just reincarnate again and try again but be even more powerful then before.

I actually really like the English dub of Shaman King. I see a lot of people hating on it saying that "uuhhh it's Ren not Len/Lenny and him and he's family is Chinese, not British". Wellll they dubbed as if Westernizing the series. Not directly translating it, but rather translating it so that Westerners can relate. Also the Chinese to Japanese are kind of like what the British are to the Americans. Not really, but kinda. One set of symbols in Japanese, Kanji, is Chinese characters. And not only that, China has also influenced Japan with culture, religion, law and more. I guess my point is that I think they did a great job making the series relatable to children in other parts of the world. Imo at least.

I just want the same English opening.

To be honest, although the US dub does have its flaws, I enjoyed the score that was written for it much more than the one for the Japanese version. It may be because I watched the dub first growing up, so I am probably biased.

I've just watched the Shaman king remake and tbh I prefer the 2001 version over the remake. Maybe it's just because I saw the 2001 Shaman kimg first and I've never read the manga, but I don't care. I think the improvised ending of the 2001 version, where Hao/zeek is defeted by Yoa, who used everyone's manga to form a giant samurai was honestly better. And very reminiscent of DBZ where Goku uses the spirit-bomb to defend kid buu. Because seriously I didn't like hao and I wanted him to pay for killing so many people.

Personally from what little we've seen of the new anime, the old one has a more appealing art style. Also, I think people need to give the 4kids dub some credit, it was still surprisingly violent (keeping the death of the X Laws and "death" of Shamash in tact)

The new anime won’t be a 100% faithful adaptation as well. It will skip the filer content from the manga so it will be more fast paced.

I also think it's the best work from 4Kids. I think Yo's dub voice fits him better than his original. The original is so high pitched and innocent and while that is part of his character it does feel a little too timid and childlike. Yo is immature but he's also very charismatic, laid back and supremely self-confident. I think the more forceful yet lazy voice of the 4Kids dub fits him better. Rio's voice also is pretty spot on as is Morty. Len I'm a bit more mixed about as he does sound very high pitched. Also the humor of 4Kids fits Shaman king rather well and unlike some other shows they didn't overdo it that much. Letting serious moments stay serious for the most part. I especially like it when with Zeke they get all serious and aggressive and once they calm down they start making those jokes again. I don't mind that because it really fits well into the scene. They are keeping Yo's lessons and their friendship on the forefront of their minds and not their hatred of Zeke. Also some lines are just great. "Looks like Lenny took another lesson from Yo" "Yeah like sleeping in public" "He'll never beat me at that" "NOOOObody will ever beat you at that master Yo". I just really love that.

considering this is 4kids we r talking about, the dub and the censoring could have been much much worse. It was surprisingly dark even for them. Plus Yoh in the dub is best yo.

Having seen both now I still prefer the 2001 version. 2021 characters are just boring and dull. It follows the events from the manga but it’s not as nearly as interesting. The voice actors are also better (I like them better at least). For some reason I can’t get behind the Japanese. I don’t know what it is , it’s just painful to listen to them lol
